Inspirations for your in-game name
Tender Wolf
I see many people with very unique in-game names, so I thought I'd make a post on it. My question is, where does everyone get their ideas? Some just jumble letters together until they find a good name, some base their names off characters they like from TV or other games, etc. So where do you get your inspiration from?
Me, I used to have characters with names like Tender Wolf (yeah still have her lol), Crime Scene Dont X, Timber Wolf Xx, etc. Names that weren't "names" like in the game, you know? Then I got to playing the game and knowing it better so only Tender Wolf remains of those kinds of names. The rest I used my first name backwards and my middle name, and for the other account I wrote down names that I saw in various places that I found unique and combined them together, though some I did think of on my own. lol

First character I invested the name. The rest are all random name gens. Whether or not you get a good one is all chance. Feeling lucky?

I always use names that sound like actual names. My two main characters are Ciel Amie and Zoe Melete.
Ciel was a name I used for another online game, though I don't remember how I came up with that one. When I made her here in GW, I just put another pretty French name onto Ciel.
As for Zoe, well I really like that name. My old friend's girlfriend was named Zoe, so I think I got it from her. I made her based off a muse, so I made her surname the same as one of the muses.

i made up my names. some of them have nice little words i like.
My first main man monk is called magixo malenko. i sort of thought it sounded like mage and magic and went with some random letters.
my favourite is Spearitual Smith. my surname is smith and the character is a paragon (hence spear)/ Ritualist (hence ritual). Makes it sound like spearitual.
other names include:
paradox inscription
forsaken incantashn
Nebula grey (a enemy in megaman exe 5 lol)
Dr Ghostie (after cool mesmer looks , mine had pale skin)
Sunrise prophet.......i dunno really
Nennius excaliblade (i dunno really but its like excalibur...)
if i had more slots i would name an assasin Bounty Blades or something.

Zeek Aran
I knew several who took words and made them backwards, but most are inspired from fiction of movies, anime, video games, music, and books. For example, my overused one "Zeek Aran" is from an anime and a video game. Zeek is from Zoids [which I watched when I was eleven or so and I loved the name since] and Aran is the last name of the famous bounty hunter, Samus, from the Metroid series.
Bazompora
My real second first name just happens to be cool.

Quote:
Fred (Flintstone) made a special guest appearance in the Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy episode, Modern Primitives, in which Billy finds him frozen in ice and buried in his backyard. Upon being (accidentally) defrosted by Grim, Billy forces Fred to adapt to the modern world until he finally goes on a senseless rampage, referred to as "future shock" by Mandy. At the end of the episode, he is frozen again, this time due to sherbet ice cream. Billy also gets frozen (though this is not shown in the episode; Billy tells Fred about it in another future world), upon realizing that there was sherbet ice cream buried in his yard. This version of Fred behaves like a caveman and can only say "Yabba-Dabba-Doo," shortening it to "YABBA-DABBA!!!" when he got really mad. When Billy asks him his name, he replies with "Oh, Fred," but Billy misinterprets it, thinking Fred is talking in another language, and renames him "Jake Steel." |

I try to think of mildly humorous names, maybe tied in some way to the prof. For example, Silent But Deadly for a 'sin (it was already taken, though), but along those lines.
I could give actual examples but then you'd know who I am in-game.

My first, and still favorite character is Busty McGregor. Named her after my Sorceress from Diablo2, where my naming convention for the female characters were all stripper sounding names, just like my ranger Candi Coated. My amazon name isn't allowed otherwise i'd also have a B00bs mcGee.
StormDragonZ
Cervantes is the last name to all my characters. The first names come from:

Serenity - Joey's sister from Yu-Gi-Oh anime. (Elementalist)
Krystal - The character from the game Starfox Adventures. (Warrior)

MarlinBackna
Origins of all my characters names:
Marlin Backna - A fictional person with a odd accent that we used as a name for a mini-golf game. Odd, I know, but the next day or so was the day I bought Guild Wars, so the name was in my mind, and it grew into my warrior main. I didn't want to use my normal online name Benjammn for him because for a fantasy game, that would have been newbish.
Mortium Exercitus - Latin for "Army of the Dead", I wanted to have a Latin name, so for a Ritualist, that would make sense.
Psi Lent - Hopefully you see the word play. It is my Assassin.
Zeis Van Woade - Dutch for "Scythe of Fury" ; No, I am not actually Dutch but my dad's side of the family is completely, so I wanted something to tie that in.
Jugs Mcgee - A good friend and I decided one day to start two new characters, and thought that two girls named T*ts Mcgee would be funny as hell, so he named his ele Melons Mc Gee (surprisingly Melons Mcgee was taken) and I named my ranger Jugs Mcgee. However, I rerolled her and made a paragon instead.

A name is a reflection of a player personality to some degree...
Snow Bunny
My name Snow Bunny was meant to be deceiving, as well as fitting for a little asian monk.
Also, I just felt it was interesting.

I love telling the story of my name : )
My very, very first Guild Wars character was named Raziel Selisur. The last name belonged to my very first character in Neverwinter Nights, Masham Selisur (and if you steal that for GW2, you are dead.) As for Raziel? Dunno, kinda just spawned out of my head. I was going through cool and holy sounding names and I picked Raziel. Dorky? Hell yes. Cool? Sure.
Now, Raziel Selisur I created on an account at Digital Ops, dunno if it's anywhere else in the state but it's where you play to use their computers and play games. After I tried GW for a while and decided to buy it, I wanted the same character. However, since I never deleted Raziel Selisur, the name was still in inexistance.
So that's why my main's name is Raziel Selisuur.

My GW character names are also names from a sci-fi/fantasy novel I'm writing. I figured on the off chance the book actually gets published, I'd already have dibs on the names.

Aerian_Skybane
Skybane is the surname I use for all of my characters in GW, with first names invented. I have stories for myself as well, as well as the backstory for the guild I lead (House of Caeruleous). Skybane represents the separatist nature of their original primary guild (Legion von Skybane). The Skybanes were a guild made up of family (Skybanes direct lineage) and their comrades. Family members were not automatically given responsibility, and they were not automatically given leadership roles, and it has been known that the Skybanes were watched over by non-lineage comrades many times. The Legion were loyal to Tyria as a whole, but were fundamentally against alliance with any orginazational consolidation of power, both politically and religiously. They heralded from the line of Skybane of Ascalon, but hold their allegiances to no region. They claimed no action in the name of the Gods, but draw their power from them directly, and individually. The Kingdoms of Ascalon, Kryta, Orr, Istan, Kourna, Vabbi, and the Empire of Cantha held no immediate control over their doings.
The Legion of Skybane was lost to history sometime during the Guild Wars and it is surmised that the Legion was all but exterminated during a endevour with the Kingdom of Orr, and very few survivors are documented.
The Skybanes in the present are the few remaining and recruited members/family of the Legion, which is non-existent except for individual name. They lived in relative obscurity, procuring sustenance by living (or being raised) on various terms. They were brought together under a general collective after the Searing (most had stayed in Ascalon, but not all), when Aerian Skybane, a direct descendant of the family line, emerged from his isolated young lifestyle and training in nature and stood to defend the nation of Ascalon and Tyria as a whole. He knew the reasons for his Legions destruction lay in his way, and he was determined to find it. The House of Caeruleous, a guild of small notice but large consequence, invited him to their assembly, and found a group of former Skybane's banded under one of the most powerful comrade's family name.
Aerian Skybane - Ranger - Direct line of lineage to original Legion of Skybane heritage. Leader of House of Caeruleous (after former leader and Caeruleous decendant was assasinated by agents of Orr). Wears the original silver color of the Legion, as opposed to the green brand of the House of Caeruleous.
Ceidyn Skybane - Warrior - Another isolated individual raised in Ascalon after the Guild Wars, actually of the Caeruleous line. Was raised with the Moons family, and commonly acts in associated with the Moons clan. Personal companion of Cinnamon Moons.
Vaerilys Skybane - Necromancer - Indirect line of lineage from both the Skybanes and the Caeruleouses from Kryta. Very outward and enigmatic dark arts practicioner, raised with House of Caeruleous and re-associated himself with the proper Legion after Aerian Skybane came out of isolation.
Neruai Skybane - Assassin - Canthan high-comrade of the former Legion of Skybane. Oldest of all the Skybanes, and knows to great extent the fate of the Legion, being involved in many of the late Guild Wars occurences before returning to Cantha and reintegrating. Reunited with Aerian when the HoC landed in Cantha to counteract Shiro. Wears the original Legion's silver much like Aerian.
Targael Skybane - Paragon - Younger member of the Skybanes, was only a child at the end of the Legion. Raised in both Kryta and Istan, was a Sunspear Officer at the arrival of the HoC to Elona. Now wears the House colors of Green in addition to his Sunspear ranks.
Erzial Skybane - Monk - Youngest member of Skybanes, raised in Ascalon and is being fostered by Aerian after his parents (former Legionaires) were lost during the exodus through the Shiverpeaks.
Well thats it for my nerdery for the day I think...
