Prices rising from traders?
st753m
I've noticed that the NPC traders prices have been rising. Black dye costs 1.5k more than it did a month ago, and according to my guild leader (who had been saving up to buy a hall) the price raised from about 9k to 20k for the sigls within about that time as well.
I understand that it's based on supply and demand, but do you think this increase will continue at it's current rate? As a casual player, I don't want to have to spend a week's worth of playing to afford even the cheapest dyes (I know I'm exaggerating, but still...)

I see black dyes change price all the time, usually between 1-2k.
Don't pay attention to sigils though.
But yeah it varies all the time.

Have you seen the price on Onyx going up lately...it is a steady increase...
angmar_nite
Good. Just like it used to be.
Albert Algorn
Prices are always changing for supplies and dye especially. Ectos used to be worth farming,
Antheus
Interesting, this started happening after the 117 bans...
Could it be? /tinfoilhat
PS: I'm kidding.

who has a 100 sup vigs lying around? there are like 3 mill gw players or something..100 vigs is a drop in the bucket on that scale of a market.
I am glad the market is going up maybe it will be worth it to farm some more. well not that many people really need to farm anymore T_T

option A: ArenaNet is fixing the prices manually, which they never did and is not logical they'd do right now (they're too busy with GW2/origami contests)
option B: Extremely high demand on materials/merch stuff (there isnt a reason as far as i know)
option C: Bad Servers

Good. Lets hope they "fix" rune prices for pete's sake! Been getting a lot of em these days.

The most reasonable guess would be that the pre-wintersday farming frenzy is over. As such, the overall supply has lessened, while demand remained constant.
If you think back, as the end of year approaches, there's lots of events. There was also GW:EN and BMP, all of which led to everyone and their pet doing a lot of farming. Among that was also a lot of items that go straight to merchant.
Now, the major events are over and it'll be a while. There are no promised updates, so there is no goal to work towards. General items are such in shorter supply, as only few go back to farm small number of special items.

That would really, really suck.
I've noticed a change in Onyxs, but besides that I haven't really paid attention. I don't think its really anything to worry about.

lol why are onyx rising in prices? is it cuz most ppl realize by now that anet isnt going to let ppl put their random weapons into the hom?
MercenaryKnight
Onyx prices is logical. Everyone is working on maxing out destroyer weapons for hall of monuments. Atleast I assume that is why the prices are going up.

I have also noticed that the price of shards has about doubled. I don't do fow as much as I used to but when I went tonight (1 run) they didn't seem to drop as often as usual. Of course that is 1 run and is not conclusive, just throwing it out there for someone who has done more runs lately. (not that I'm complaining, more money for me when they drop since I am not going for fow armor)

Anyone think this may be linked to the inclusion of the Asian districts?
Shanaeri Rynale
i thought all traders were linked everywhere?
I put the rise in prices down to the (ab)use of consumables and UB(the two tend to go together). Consumables demand lots of mats to use, so it's understandable that prices will rise.

To throw more gibberish into my theorycraft, Asia servers represented a considerably smaller amount of players than either America or Europe individually, much less combined. Less people means: 1) less people maxing titles with the new[er] favor system, so less time (if any) for UW/FoW, so very little chance (other than scrolls) to get certain rare materials or buy certain elite armor; and 2) less everything coming into their economy until a week ago, and they likely have lots of gold to spend since there wasn't enough to spend it on before.
So yeah, idea is that you introduce a relatively small percentage of people, who have likely farmed lots of gold with nothing to spend it on, into the current relatively balanced economy. Because there were less people and likely a lot more gold, everything they had was potentially 2-3x what it's worth in our game. They get merged and "oh look!" everything seems so cheap - and they buy it up with their accumulated wealth. It shakes things up, but eventually goes back to normal. That is what I suspect is going on.

1. People see one items has a high price. Due to low quantity.
2. People go farm the item.
3. People sell much of the item.
4. Item decrease in price. Due to high quantity.
5. People stop farming the item.
4. Item increase in price. Due to low quantity.
Rinse and repeat.

Well, that would make sense if we were talking about one or two items. However, it's looking more like several items. So what, everyone just stopped farming all these items at the same time?
MithranArkanere
People stopped selling them.
IF you see you are goint to get 500g from a rune, you salvage it, if not, you sell it without salvaging.

SO DID I!!! stupid message has to be longer so here is my useless sentence to make it longer
GrimEye
Increase prices usually means More Demand than Supply.
Which means the Farmers of Guildwars are not doing their job!!!!
