Ok I'm Lazy but Make Inventory do this plz
Red Sonya
Everytime I goto my storage I have to click to open my bag inventory or type a key stroke. Everytime I goto a merchant or a rune trader or a dye trader I have to do the same. Over n over n over I have to do one of the two when dealing with merchant npc's or my storage chest.
What I would like to see is an 'option' to have our inventory bags open upon interacting with our storage chest or a merchant/rune/dye trader npc. It seems very logical and such a simple act to put into the game. Being as it would be "optional" those that like clicking or stroking a key everytime they interact with some merchant npc they still can.
I'd really appreciate it Anet...thanks.

Lazy isn't strong enough for you. You're seriously complaining about having to press 'i' every time you talk to a NPC? It takes about 1 second. One second. Sure, it would be convenient, but this really isn't needed.
Easy solution: When walking to the NPC, press 'i'. It's not like you're doing something anyways.

/notsigned; even if they decide this needs to be implemented I would want to switch it off. I'm not always going to the traders to sell, and it's just one more damn window eating up my screen's real estate.

You're definitely lazy, but hey, so am I! Those seconds can add up! Pennies make dollars after all...
And really, from a gameplay perspective, there's no reason not to incorporate this idea, so...

(Although from a designer standpoint, there are probably other issues that take priority over this one).

True, seconds do add up. If you talk to a NPC 60 times, you're wasting a whole minute of your life (or you can do what I suggested and waste 0 seconds, but that's not the point). How many days is it going to take you to talk to 60 NPCs that require your inventory? Quite a few. So one minute out of a few days. That's really adding up, isn't it?
If it took 5 seconds to do something that you're going to do somewhat frequently (loading a map, for example), then saying seconds add up would be suitable. For something that takes 1 second that you won't be doing a whole lot, not really suitable.

Shut up Arkantos.
I think this is a great idea. Maybe it's the lazy way out, but if I wasn't lazy, I wouldn't be sitting on my ass playing video games, now would I? Anyway, this feature already exists in all the cool MMOs like WoW, so it should be in GW too. It wouldn't be hurting anyone who didn't want it, because those people could just turn it off, and it'd be a great convenience to those that do want it.
There's no downside, other than maybe the fact that somebody at HQ would have to spend the day planning it, pondering it, coding it, bug testing it, and finally implementing it.

Sorry, but I'd have to say /notsigned to this.
I bet if you figured the time it took you to write up this idea, it might equal the amount of time you would save by having this option in the game for about a year.

Ok, so assuming you do this farm every single day, you waste about 30 minutes every month. Not a whole lot, but I see your point. Now, if you open your inventory while walking to the merchant/storage, guess what? You're now wasting zero seconds. But God forbid you have to press the i key, the i might wear out. Or even worse, you might break a nail!
Now, look at this from a programmers point of view. Why would they implement this when it's totally unnecessary? Seeing as you know how to waste no time opening your inventory while walking to a merchant/storage, why do you still want this totally unnecessary feature? Is it such a hassle to press a single key?

Curse You
I think we've just discovered a new kind of laziness.
Seriously, if you really cared about efficiency, you would open your inventory up while you ran to storage or whatever, thus doing two things at once and so not wasting any time.

OK, now here's the annoying part of this suggestion - What if I don't want my inventory (i) opened when talking to a merchant, but rather all bags (F9)? This is exactly what annoys me about the auto-inventory-open feature when trading. Items spill over into multiple bags, and I'd rather have all bags open than just the "paper doll + heroes + one bag" pop up. Your lazy, 'time-saving' suggestion becomes a nuisance and time-wasting one to me.
How about this, as Ark says, you hit (i) while walking to the merch, and I'll hit my (F9), and we're both happy. No time wasted. Auto pop-up window I don't use? Time wasted because I now have to close it.
How's that for a /notsigned?

Anyway, how about people start expanding upon ideas to work for everyone, rather than just saying "No that's not exactly how I like it so screw your plan" from now on?
Red Sonya
Lol thanks Faer. I notice there's more people rush to threads to knock them down instead of expanding upon them. These above don't even stop to think I might only have one hand or arm either.

Even though i myself would disable it, because i freak out everytime something pops up, it wouldn't harm to have it for those who do like it. I mean, hell, why not just have storage open every time you enter town? What's the point of having chests if you can put something in them while you're across town? ::continues to babble::
Anyways, i say go for it.

Possibly because you didn't say you had one arm/hand. So, if you have one arm/hand, guess what? You can still click the merchant/storage, and while you're walking to the NPC, you can press i. But apparently that's too much of a hassle.
I also wouldn't use the one arm/hand as an excuse. If you can type up a thread/reply, you can press the i key.

Somebody has to think of the nails. That, and it would indeed be a rather usefull thing.
Tatile
I personally don't care. However if there's a need/justifiable want for this, I don't see why it shouldn't at least be tested for implementation. I see how it can be beneficial, but it must be toggleble (is that even a word? It's hard to tell these days), for those of us that might find it irritating.

I'm not seeing the issue with hitting the key 'on the way to the merchant.' That wastes no time. What's the deal? I'm usually not critical of ideas like these, but knowing Anet's history, if something like this was added, it would just create more hassle than not having the feature creates. I'm of the mind: don't fix what ain't broken.

Be smart, set the current inventory to O, en change open all bags to I.
Your bags are your inventory and the "inventory" is actually an equipment window, I have no idea way the keymap is the way it is, makes no sense at all.

But, we could say that for every new implementation. Like hero hotkeys. I don't need that, but, it's a nice feature for those that do. Mini Pets in towns/outposts another un-needed implementation for a lot of people, but, Anet did it anyway. Remember this is a "suggestion" forum. It is merely to suggest. It's not something I would expect them to put at the top of the list, with GW2 on their minds I doubt many new things will be added to GW1 anyways. But, since this IS a suggestion forum I decided to suggest something "I" want. Just like the rest of you suggest things "you" want. There really are no bad "suggestions", just bad forum members who don't like change or think their way is the best way.

I maped the F9 to the 'O' letter.
It takes no time to use it, since it do not have to load the paperdoll.

Seriously... your just pressing "I" for god sake! Does it really seem that important to direct Anet's time away from other things for this?

I like to see what's in all my "bags" when I go to the merchant. Sometimes I acquire enough junk to overflow my backpack and spill into my belt pouch or even the first bag.

what is so hard about opening inventory or storage? the word lazy just doesnt do this justice. OMG!!! So it takes an extra second to open invetory, get over it.

First of all, when you merchent stuff you dont use your bag, you select what to sell through the merchant window. You dont need you bag open at all.
But lets say you do for some reason! I have the solution! When you open guild wars, open your inventory, drag it to a corner, and never close it all day!
You're welcome

This is when a game options screen becomes 300 tabs long, and have things like "auto open bags only after XXX" (default 6:00PM) and "auto jerk you every X hours" (default 1). spoiled I tell you...

This is like the pinnacle of laziness. "I'm too lazy to press 'i', do it for me!"
edit: Ironically, on second thought this already exists for when you're trading with someone.
