Make Conditions real
LukeD
I think that it would be so cool and make the game more fun if conditions actually effected your screen as well as ur charecter.
current conditions:
* Bleeding, -3 Health degeneration
* Blind, 90% chance to miss
* Burning, -7 Health degeneration
* Cracked Armor, -20 armor, minimum 60 armor
* Crippled, 50% slower movement
* Dazed, twice as long to cast spells, spells are easily interrupted
* Deep Wound, 20% less maximum health, 20% less healing on this
* Disease, -4 Health degeneration, contagious to all adjacent of the same
* Poison, -4 Health degeneration
* Weakness, 66% less damage dealt in combat, -1 to all attributes
most of these wont be able to show a screen effect.
But. ones like Daze,Blind,Poisen,Burning u would.
Daze: could make ur screen like the heavy drunk.
Blind: could make ur screen uber messed not totally blinded but make it very poor visiblility.
Poisen: the outer edges of ur screen are green like you care poisened.
Burning: the out edges of ur screens are Red or burning effect.
Desease: could make you screen go rly wobbly around the edge and more as it last longer. or jsut the same as Poisen.
Bleeding: can have a red effects around you screen.
Cripple/Cracked Armour/Weakness and Deepwound i dont know but its just an idea i think it would be cool
im gonna get some photoshop and have a look at what i can do to the ffects to make it look like what i had in mind.

Why would anyone want this? This negatively effects your gameplay. Even if this feature was optional, why would anyone want a cool effect to negatively effect their gameplay?

I think if there was the option to turn this on/off it would be a neat little idea - I wouldn't use it in PvP, but in PvE I'd be all for this.

its to make conditions feel real i think it would be really cool
Arkantos
Sure, it makes cool effects. It still negatively effects your gameplay. The con outweighs the pro by far.
How would you like playing a caster while someone blinds you so your screen gets "messed up"? How would you like playing a melee character while someone dazes you and your screen goes blurry? My point is blind isn't supposed to effect casters, daze isn't supposed to effect melee. This is really unnecessary.

The conditions already are a negative effect for you, why add more negative effects to those same conditions

This thread reminds me of Eternal Darkness for the Gamecube. Awesome game. If you never played it, scroll down to the "Sanity Effects" in that article. Toying with the player works great in a one-player game.
Guild Wars is not Eternal Darkness, however, nor is it single player. It is multiplayer, and competitive, and adding this to the game just adds needless frustration. In fact, it would likely lead to degenerate play; ie: you would apply conditions on players not based on their harmful in-game effect, but to instead cause them to lose visibility. I'm sure griefers in RA would love this, especially "Blind."
I remember when that game came out on XBox, actually, but I didn't know about the PC version. I've never owned an XBox. I'd completely forgot about it; thanks for reminding me!

Ok, make that. I don't care, I have to play with post-processing turned off.
So more handicap for those with better machines.

Cracked Armor: a small crack appears in the corner of your monitor, increasing in size everytime the condition is applied to you.
Cripple: you try to get out of your chair to get something to drink but fall flat on your face.
Weakness: you no longer have the ability to keep your head from smashing into the keyboard.

No, the effect of this is more annoying that useful.
While I am all for better condition visualization, but on my character, not on my screen.
Actually dripping sizable amounts of blood on the ground, while bleeding.
Coughing and looking awful when diseased.
Running with both hands stretched out in front while blind.
And missing arms or legs while suffering from deep wound.
That would make conditions real, it this was a first person game then you'd have a point, but this is a team based game where people that do more than just TAB+SPACE need to keep oversight in.
Although, I imagine [skill=text]Decapitate[/skill] would be rather odd if it where to be that way.

It is rather strange that one can suffer from Decapitate and still fight.
Oh, wait ..... this is GW! No need for a head on your body to play this game.

Hm... let's see let's see, now that I have time:
# Bleeding
Current visual: Red mist around the middle of character's height.
Possible additional visual: This one is easy. Blood drips appearing on the ground, like the footprints characters already leave.
# Blind Condition.
Current visual: Black fog coming from target's head.
Possible additional visual: Sepia filter(like an old photo), decrease bright.
# Burning.
Current visual: Flame.
Possible additional visual: Increase screen bright. Turn health bar orange.
# Cracked Armor
Current visual: Same as weakness.
Possible additional visual: Sparkling fog around the character's torso. Cracks in the Health bar.
# Crippled
Current visual: Player walks crippled.
Possible additional visual: No need to more. It's perfect.
# Dazed
Current visual: White bubbles coming from the head..
Possible additional visual: While not attacking, moving or activating skills, character grabs his head with the left hand. Before starting to cast, character shakes his head.
# Deep Wound:
Current visual: 'Exhausted' health bar.
Possible additional visual: Heal numbers turn cyan with grey borders instead of Blue with black borders. While not attacking, moving or activating skills, character grabs his chest or arm with the left hand. 'Spiked' gray fog around the character's shoulders.
# Disease
Current visual: Green health bar. Putrid green mist with flyes around the character.
Possible additional visual: Yellowish health bar. Greenish skin. While not attacking, moving or activating skills, character coughs once every 2..5 seconds.
# Poison
Current visual: Green health bar. Green fog around the character.
Possible additional visual: While not attacking, moving or activating skills, character grabs his throat with the left hand. Green breath (Like the white breath we see in snowy areas, just green)
# Weakness
Current visual: Khaki dust around character's feet.
Possible additional visual: Character attack's lose the variable animations, the same 'weak looking' one is used only. Damage numbers turn khaki with gray borders instead of yellow with black border. Character's attacks do not have hit flashes or much smaller ones.
Combined effects in the health bar.
Current visual: They get replaced: Hex>Poison/Disease>Bleeding.
Possible visual: They would appear as diagonal 'bands' across the health bar, like rainbow candy cane colors.

Here is what you do when U post well taught ideas out on guru.
You think about WHY would you want to do it? To make it real?
1. You're playing a fantasy game, GW is NOT real, GLINT is a character in a game, dragons do NOT exist.
2. Camere is floating behind your character, it simply makes no sence that these conditions would magicly "affect" the camera...
3. As noted before, think about blindness/dazed etc...
4. WHY? To annoy people?
5. Meh, I need some coffee
I don't get the point WHY u would want to add this, but HEY, if you really want it, I'm sure U would love to take the time to learn how to write a mod in texmod? I'm pretty sure something like this is easy doable, gl...

/signed it would be pretty cool.
But in eye of the north dungeon with all the frogs is already like this. Your screen looks like you are level 5 drunk.

Drunken effect style for blind would be cool
I personally think spell casting could see some sort of disadvantage for being blind
I also think it will be addressed in GW2

When you crippled the screen turns to a 45 degree angle back and forth as you walk xD.
When you have deep wound a big chunk of the screen falls off.
Wouldnt be so bad if it was optional i guess.

i think it's a good idea, as long as you've got the option 2 switch it on/off (And blindness musnt be 2 messy ) Would also make it easier 2 notice if uve got a condition on you (for the blind people who cant see the lil icons on their screen ) One thing though... what if you've got multiple conditions on you? Say Poison and Burning (BA+AP for example) then the edges'd go green and red at the same time

I think a better option might be to make the conditions less 'real", but more clearly indicated:
use a "floating icon" system, sort of like final fantasy games, where you would have little condition indicators as a graphic above the character's head.
Blind: an eye w/ a little circle w/ a slash through it, like a no smoking sign
Bleeding: a red droplet
Poison: a green droplet
Dazed: either a brain w/ a circle and slash, or possible a sort of star symbol
Crippled: a silhouette of a hunched-over person, or a leg w/ a break through it
Deep wound: a silhouette of a torso w/ a break through it
Cracked armor: a silhouette of a shield w/ a crack through it
Disease: either a bug or rat shape, or possibly use the biohazard symbol (might not be fitting)
I would also add status icons for slowed, sped up, IAS, etc. Overall, though, the current condition indicators don't clutter things up too much, which was probably a main focus of their implementation...

The effects on the health bar (orange, cracks, etc) are a bit corny, though I like the blood idea etc.
I want to know why GW doesn't have blood. Is it trying to keep a T rating or trying to gather a larger audience?
Warcraft III had blood and gibs and got by with a T.

From the title I was expecting something silly like:
Ooh, this would require some fancy contraption that Anet could sell.
It'd have knives, flame-torches, syringes full of stereotypical green ooz and sedatives... Ahh...
Overall, I think my prediction of your idea is awful. EVEN THOUGH it would get Anet a little spending money.
I like your idea though. But they'd have to be very subtle and non-intrusive effects.
