I have had a few online friends who have had their accounts hijacked, and their characters wiped. While they have either managed to get their accounts back or had Anet give them back once it was confirmed the account is theirs, Anet has been unable to return the lost characters.
The only thing that is saved from all the hard work that was done is the titles that are account wide.
There has been some debate as to letting some titles that are not currently account wide be moved to that. I would like to forward the notion that two should be, as they involve an extraordinary amount of time, effort and money to gain.
These would be the Treasure Hunter and Wisdom titles.
While I do agree that it is sensible they are on one character purely due to the id and chest finding being done by the one charcter, I think that the lose of the character that has this title is devastating, since its not easy to get back to a high level, especially as your resources are wiped out. Other titles are relatively quick to get in comparison, even the reputation ones.
Therefore I suggest these two titles are moved into account based as it will help those that lose their characters through no fault of their own.

My suggestion for account security is an option in the character selection screen:
"Lock Character: Thick this box to prevent character deletion for the next 6 months. WARNING! If you choose this option you won't be able to delete your character before the time has expired. You can renew the lock 1 month before unlock."
@Shayne: search is unfriendly to me, I can't find the thread you mentioned
As for "Wisdom" and "Treasure Hunter", I add /signed.
Anyway, to the OP I suggest to check the following threads here on guildwarsguru:
Treasure Hunter

Make Wisdom and Treasure Hunter titles account based

Make all grind based titles account wide

And there is this suggestion on Gaile Gray's wiki user page:

Don't be a dumbass about your account info and you'll be fine.
As much as i agree with Curse You, I just don;t think you can stop stupid people from doing stupid things.
This is a suggestion simply to look at a priviously suggested improvemnt for those not smart enough to ensure safety of their account. I'm sure many would claim to have followed safe protocols though.
Locking characters would be nice too.
