Is it worth not perfect?
yoyoto
Hey guys, I don't know if this belongs here but if anyone could help me, I recently started playing this game again, I've tried a bunch of builds for my Warrior, I only have Prophecies BTW, anyways soo I realized I need a new weapon. I did my research on Guildwarswiki and I compared some of the best sounding swords to ways I can make them cheaply and I found one I like. I used a long sword from Droknar's Forage, and I was thinking to get a zealous mod for it and then get another with Vampiric....sooooooo before I even bought the sword I found a basic zealous sword mod! But, I was thinking maybe I should buy a perfect one. Does it make a diffrence? and is it worth doing? also anyone know of some shields I can use?? one of my builds calls for tactics the other for str. so I never know what to use, Sorry for the longggg post!
Please help,

Zealous only has one version: 1 energy per hit, and -1 energy degen.
Pyro maniac
zealous = zealous, no difference between them =)

LOLZ I thought everything came as perfect, Oh well, then is it the same for vampiric? and any suggestions on what to use as the pommel?
Smile Like Umean It
Max for vamp is 3/1. And no, mods don't always come maxed, even on gold drops.

vampiric only drop max on sword/axes/spears (the 3/-1 version), it is possible to get non-max versions of the 5/-1 ones. just 4/-1 tho

I feel like a noob, I started playing in 2005, was on for like 2 weeks in 06 and now I'm back for good hopefully, So I dont know what this 5/1 means, My geuss is +3 health/ -1 Hp thing, Anyone knows where I can farm for the vamp mod? that I can also make money for a new sword... I only have prophecies...... I also need a new pommel...... any ideas? Sheilds? I'm so confused its like walking into a dark room
Tyla
It's mostly luck on the weapon.
And 5/1 (or 5/-1) is vamp mod.

Yes, but he's talking about swords, not weapons in general.
RotteN
green weapons are a cheap way to get perfectly modded equipment. Just look on wiki for "unique weapons"
yoyoto
Anyways soooooo my zealous is then considered 1/-1? And any place I can go to farm? any suggestions for a total noob?
Tyla
It's "Newbie" not "Noob"!
There should be a stickied thread on farming in the farming section, by the way.

Actually I am a noob, since I've owned this game for almost 3 yrs! *Keyword ALMOST there*
Tyla
Keep in mine the "New" in "Newbie", you are new to a certain thing - judging from the OP.
yoyoto
MEHHH so idk about what shield to get or how the hell to make moneys!

In my experience, the bets way to make money is to find a route form 1 town/outpost to another, that you can traverse relatively easily, and kill a good amount of fairly high level enemies. Do this w/ a max party size, to get a feel for it, and slowly eliminate 1 henchman here or another there, until you're at the smallest party size you can reliably make the trip with. Sell any items you don't specifically want or need when you get back to a town, then repeat the trip.
As to weapon mods in general, one thing I've come to accept is that a 14^50 or even a 13^50 mod are pretty much just as good as a 15^50, etc...
For certain things, like vampiric, though, you really want the best one possible...
As for a shield, I suggest checking guild wars wiki for collector's shields; there are some very good ones out there...

I dont know what teh 15^30 thing means! my sword is max dmg, +15% While above 50%hp, and It needs a mod to go with the Zealous one
Zamochit
In terms of effectiveness I would say take a + 5 Armour vs all damage pommel (defence) ~ they are much cheaper than +30 health pommels and are as effective in pve in the majority of situations. Either that or get a +29 health one for cheap.
Crom The Pale
I would suggest sitting in Lions Arch for a bit and posting in the search window WTB Sword Mods, then see what people offer and how much itll cost you.
You can get some near perfect mods, +29hp 19/20 sundering for less than 3K depending on the seller.

15^50 is shorthand for "+15% damage when health is above 50%".
So, 14^50 would mean "+14% damage when health is above 50%", and so on.
My point was that you don't always need a "perfect" weapon mod to perform well.

thanks guys, I have a million more questions but I dont think anyone wants to hear them, either way my most related one is what shield to use, I'm thinking the collector stance one, but I dont always use stances
Edit: yeah well since I already have my +15% damage long sword and it was only 5k ^.^ I'm happy with getting another, What are these inscription things I read so much about

Inscriptions are new to Nightfall and EotN. Instead of the inherent mod that weapons had in Prophecies and Nightfall, they act like the pommel and hilt: you can buy them seperately and change them as you like. If your weapon says
'Inscription: Dance with Death
Damage +15% (while in a stance)'
Or something like that, then it's inscribable. If it just has the damage part, then it's not inscribable and you can't change it.
About the shield, Ideally you'd have some kind of +health on it (either +30 unconditional or +45 while in a stance), and the other mod can have a -2 (while in a stance) or Armor +10 vs <Lightning or Fire damage>. There are other mods than that, but those are generally the most useful.
Take a look through my guide if you want, it's stickied at the top of the Warrior forum.

What about a +28 HP mod, cause I happen to have one of those, and the shield thing was not much help, I found the shield in snake dance I thought was good b ut cant get griffon wings
Edit: bought a perfect one thanks to some really nice guy, he gave me alot of good advice aswell!

+28 is fine. Only in very very rare circumstances will 2 extra health save you. Even then, you could just get a rez with no problems. Perfect mods are usually jusr for elitists and show-offs really, but if you can afford it theres no problem.
yoyoto
the shield is now my problem, and the fact that I don't understand armor, What are these bonuses I've heard about but I have never seen written officially? I use Knights templar armor, I wanted Elite kruzick cause I thought it was the same but apprently its not? can someone explain that?

You customize your armor with Runes and Insignias.
The max amount of armor Warriors have is 80 with 30 extra armor against physical damage.

these should help. ^^

For example, the name "Survivor Elite Kurzick Leggings of Superior Vigor" indicates the piece is upgraded with a Survivor insignia and a rune of Superior Vigor; it is also functionally identical to a "Survivor Templar Leggings of Superior Vigor."

Prior to the introduction of insignia when Nightfall came out, warrior Gladiator armor was unique in that it gave energy bonuses inherently.
Today, a Radiant insignia performs that function, and can be applied to any armor set. The only reason to buy Gladiator armor today is because you like how it looks. LightningHell

There were times where that extra 1 hp saved me using a perfect fortitude modifier. Granted, they don't happen very often. | So, yes, get a +30 if you're playing in areas where it matters, but otherwise, +28 is more than fine. JR

Infact I mean how often do you get down to 30 health? May aswell save yourself the money and not get a health mod at all. Pretty sure you would do ok without a chest piece either... In fact just go naked with a candy cane weapon! You will do just fine.
yoyoto
OHHHH I thought you had to match all the insignias. anyways my shield is now the problem.... still
Crom The Pale
What problem exactly are you having with your shield?
Do you have the required attributes for it? Are you using a Strength or Tactic shield? Max armor for a shield is 16, the bonus mods are not absolutely needed but I find that +30hp is better than +45Stance/Enchanted for most builds I use. I personally prefer the +10 armor vs Piersing/Fire/Earth/Lightning over the -5/20% mods. You should be able to purchase a good shield easily, and if your dont mind skin you can even get a perfect one for a very low price these days. yoyoto
some of my builds dont use tactics, and idk which shield to buy
Crom The Pale
You can purchase one of each then, most wars have at least 2 shields.
Your best bet would be to find a R9 Strength shield and a R9 Tactics shield, with as close to +30hp as you can afford. Don't focus on the skin or perfect mods till your really near the end of the game or beyond that point. Nobody completes there very first campain with there very first char using perfect R9 gold items..... yoyoto
I beat the first campaign...
