What's Your Damage?
Rhedd
There have been a number of threads about people attacking the Master of Damage to see who could get the highest, most insane damage results, so there's certainly no need for another one of those.
Instead, what I'd like to hear is your damage figures when using your favorite everyday, PvE build. Not some crazy build specifically made to create a big damage number, but your usual build. One attacker at a time.
So, if you want to help fill the great Bucket o' Knowledge, take a build you use on a regular basis (don't go replacing self-heals, running skills, or any other utility skills, even though you won't use them on the MoD) and go whack the Master.
Here are the official rules:
1) Only one character (you or one of your heroes) may attack at once.
2) Attack the Master of Damage until he has died EXACTLY 3 TIMES, then quit and record the results.
3) Use your usual build, including any skills that might not be any use whatsoever in this experiment (like Mending, heheh).
Then post at least the following information:
1) Are the results for you, or one of your heroes?
2) What class are you (or your hero)?
3) What weapon did you use ("Axe", or "Staff" is enough, unless you'd like to elaborate.)
4) What was your average damage per second after 3 kills? (Highest damage isn't really important, here.)
5) How did you hold up? (Did you have any energy/recharge/adrenaline problems by the time you had killed him 3 times, could you keep it up all day, or somewhere in between?)
I promise I'm not copping out, and I'll do this test with my own character/heroes and post the results tomorrow, but for now, I'm going to bed. ^_^
Again, DON'T go making some super-damage build to show off! You wouldn't let your ego get in the way of science, would you? Of course you wouldn't.
Have fun!

Sounds fun, but I think the warrior will still win with a standard D-Slash build. So, as long as the idea isn't 'who's better,' but rather a well of information for builds and their damage efficiency, I'm 100% for it!
(of course in that case, I think healing/protection/utility should be taken into consideration - and if so, I'm willing to bet the Paragon would win )

1. Me, of course.
2. Ranger. Pure Ranger, any secondary classes I need using this build are for capping.
3. Bow. Shortbow.
4. Hmm... My damage per hit is around 70-140 damage (Well, highest was 138 vs MoD). I'd say that it spikes whilst using Sloth Hunter Shot, and it lower for the rest. However, MoD says that my average damage is exactly 75 per second. Death occurs after 7-10s.
5. That was one of the reasons I made this build. My old build, a hideous monstrosity of PvE skill induced violence packed a massive punch, but ran out of energy as quickly as a McDonald's enthusiast in a cross-country race. Thats why I now pack prepared shot. I never run out of energy now.
[skill]Prepared Shot[/skill]Sloth Hunter's Shot[skill]Penetrating Attack[/skill][skill]Concussion Shot[/skill][skill]Read The Wind[/skill][skill]Lightning Reflexes[/skill]"I Am The Strongest!"-Sunspear Rebirth Signet
(Those in bold apparently don't work).
When fighting the master of damage, I first prepared with Read The Wind and "I am the Strongest!", then cast Lightning Reflexes and went straight into an attack. I didn't use Concussion Shot at all; it would lower my attack power dramatically, and sap (though not deplete, prepared shot helps with that - though I do have to refrain from using my fighting skills if I use concussion 3 times in a battle) my energy. I would in real battle, of course, but not on a melee fighter, which I've assumed the MoD is. My energy is used up quickly, but its easily replenished by prepared shot, and my expertise halves the cost for all skills (save "I am the Strongest!", of course). If the damage seems high, its because, save for adding Concussion Shot, this build is built to deal damage, and nothing else. In most guild teams, there'll be a tank, some healing, and a bunch of AoEs, but I'm the subtle knive that Focuses on one target and gets it down.
However, I did somehow manage to hit a torment demon for 350 damage yesterday. I have no idea how, I think it was a combination of Sloth Hunter, Critical and Lightbringer.

Wouldn't it be better to attack the MoD until he ends the attack and gives you the full stats?
If we do that, my standard PvE axe warrior (OQATEZJXHiUUucXkvaqAqQqooAA), lifted straight from Eye of the North without any changes to skill-setup, gets 50 dps, first death after 16 seconds, biggest spike 195 damage. It should be noted that this is not a spike build but a general purpose build for H/H'ing; the warrior doesn't get any mileage at all out of four of his skills, and the slow first kill reflects that his damage output is by adrenal skills. Damage can very easily be bumped by, say, replacing Light of Deldrimor with Conjure Flame.
My burning arrow & interrupts ranger:
39 dps average, 139 biggest damage, first death after 12 seconds. The problem here is that he runs out of energy by spamming Burning Arrow and Sloth Hunter, after which damage output plummets. Gets no mileage at all from his three interrupts or utility skills. Splinter-barrage with a zealous bow would no doubt have been much better.
Monk, domination mesmer, and death necro: none of them have any unconditional direct damage skills, and so would have to wand MoD to death. Hence, not tested.
My Searing Flames ele (OgBDgjyMPDAaBuAZUMIGjV6G) did 48 damage per second, peak was 154 damage, first death after 9 seconds. I was a bit surprised that she never ran out of energy.
My Random Arena warrior (with interrupt, rez, and self heal OQgjEpScIOCAC2Ejvi4gKSFqCA ) average 48 dps, 167 biggest hit, and first death after 13 seconds.

Critical Scythe Assassin > All
Energy is solid with 4 energy every 2 out of 3 hits. 284 dmg spike, average dps is 80. Kills a squishie in 5 seconds. Aura of Holy Might can be kept up constantly with a 20% Enchantment mod, and is devastating even at r1 Luxon/Kurzick. +12 health regen from your 4 enchantments. You also have AL 80 with Blessed Insignias.

My crit scythe assassin gets 120 dps sustained. Eventually there'd be a slight dip when I had to recast aura of holy might, but he dies 3 times before that happens. Energy is constantly full.
Next best build is attack spirit sortie which gets 101 dps. There's some setup beforehand, but thanks to summon spirits I can do it outside of battle. I have a couple versions of this build,
My order of undeath necro got up to 180 dps with heroes healing but not attacking. Kinda sloppy to test though, as you have to kill the two practice dummies over and over again to make a full spate of minions. I can't isolate 3 kills worth of data.

I can't see how much damage my necro deals, since the MoD doesn't attack or use skills.
My warrior on the other hand;
I used my normal axe build (using a sundering, customized axe).
Average DPS was 33 (Max 113). Death after 16 seconds.
Since I made the build for continous battling, I was more than able to keep going if needed. Although, the build is not focused on damage but rather assisting the rest of the team, which explains the low-ish DPS.
Elementalist - Water build
Staff
Average DPS was 50 (Max 248). Death after 10 seconds.
Energy was not much of a problem.
This my normal build for my elementalist, which is basically a Shatterstone/Vapor Blade spike.
Assassin - Critical Fury daggers
Daggers (sundering)
Average DPS was 61 (Max 167). Death after 10 seconds.
Energy was far from a problem, I could have had [wiki]Quicksand[/wiki] on me and still have energy.
I made the build around the PvE Sunspear skill [wiki]Critical Agility[/wiki]. It has a strong focus on dishing out damage, while being able to take some hits. It also has the benefit of having entirely unblockable attack skills.
I have other characters, but most of them don't use builds that are focused on dishing out damage.

Okay, so here are mine...
Who: Me
Class: R/P
Weapon: Moa Bird! (And a spear, but that doesn't really matter much.)
Avg. Damage: 56/second
Best Damage: 161
Death in: 10sec
Stamina: Using Great Dwarf Weapon (for the awesome knockdowns) can tax my energy, so I only use it on bosses or nasty casters. Not using that skill, I can keep it up all day long, but the damage drops a bit to 53/second.
Build: OgklYxXZmUmnBtK+bwZsZ4FuyILRbA (Pure Beastmaster)
I'm going to have to try your axe skills, Numa Pompilius, on Jora. I started this thread because I was testing hero builds, and since I've never really played anything but a ranger, myself, I didn't know what to look for in the way of damage for the other classes, and all the numbers seemed low.
I didn't really know how decent my own damage was, either, since my heroes make me look SO GOOD in comparison! ^_^
Are these figures normal, for a hero?
Who: Jora
Class: W/P
Weapon: Axe
Avg. Damage: 28/second
Best Damage: 99
Death in: 17sec
Stamina: Definitely runs close on energy, most of the time.
Build: OQkkEpSaVaeD4TpwXz+cFL8VRAA
Sure, this build is more of an AoE build, but the damage still seems low, to me.
I also run a pretty standard SF build on Vekk, other than a couple of party support skills, and while the AoE is groovy, the damage is still way below mine:
Who: Vekk
Class: E/Mo
Weapon: Staff
Avg. Damage: 37/second
Best Damage: 126
Death in: 14sec
Stamina: No energy problems at all.
Build: OgNDoMz/MAD62YtphLQGQNYC
I only let him use Meteor Shower on big, nasty groups.

Okay, somebody's gotta get some decent numbers here for warriors. These are the 3 sword builds I run most often, and an ax variant for one of them just to illustrate why I use swords instead. All of them use a max, customized, sundering weapon which is gaining its proper 15% bonus.
57 DPS; the power pet build. Turns out spamming power attack with 15 str and constant IAS is pretty damaging. Energy is no sweat unless I do something dumb like activating NRA right near the end of a battle. Note; this could be better. I'm mid rune-armor rearrangement so I had to test this with no swordsmanship rune!
54 DPS; taptapslam. Almost as good damage and a knockdown every 4 seconds or so. Energy slowly becomes an issue, but this can be solved by leaving power attack out of the combo a few times or using a zealous sword.
54 DPS; soldier's storm of swords. Same DPS as above, but with deep wounds instead of knockdowns. Maintain IAS with WY while FGJ is down.
45 DPS; soldier's ax storm. Same build, same setup, attack skills many people will tell you are superior, and yet worse DPS every time, and a slower recycle of the deep wound.

I want to take a moment and thank everyone who posts their actual builds. It's incredibly educational for everyone.
All too often people feel they need to guard their ub3r builds like buried treasure, and that's just silly.
(I wish I could see some more of those Assassin builds. They seem to be doing awesome sustained damage. Too bad heroes make sucky assassins. I sure don't want to play one, myself. ^_^)

Does it count as attacking if heroes keep up Strength of Honor/Winnowing/OoP etc. on me? If not, then my Locust's Fury Sin can keep up ca. 120 DPS all day long, with 3 optional skills. And yes, that's my everyday Sin build.

Yeah, don't go using heroes to buff you. It throws everything off.
For the sake of consistency, just make it you, alone.
REMEMBER, THIS ISN'T A CONTEST! Nobody cares if you have the highest number!
And see what I was saying about Assassins? When they don't post their builds, they report numbers twice as high as other classes, so far.
Are they really consistently that good? What happened to the good ol' fashioned, do-one-combo-and-then-have-to-run PvE assassin? Did I miss a memo?

The sin/derv simply represents the most efficient method of exploiting this mechanic, given the huge upper end on the damage range and the ability to hit adjacent targets.

My usual party, just like everyone's, I'm sure, has someone who works to increase the damage of other party members. This should be assumed when looking at any individual build.
It's true that if you have a build that really MUST have this support to work, (That would be pretty gimmicky for an everyday build.) it makes it difficult to accurately compare your build in this context, but that's an unfortunate necessity, since otherwise ALL the numbers would be meaningless, because who knows what combination of buffing heroes you could be using.
Did I mention this isn't a contest for the highest damage number?
Maybe we can do a 4-man team test, later on.

Good thread, most ppl are not aware of the importance of DPS (even less the utilities or god forbid survival skills...but first things first). Although DPS is not an objective number, armor level, aoe radius, enemy behavior, etc all have huge influence on dps, it is a solid number for basic comparison.

Testing done by me
W/either..... I use 100% w skills & a sword. In fact my AB build which rocks
5083 damage over 180secs & average 28 damage per sec.
My best damage in a single second was 101 done at 61 secs.
Death of Master after 22 secs.

Then post at least the following information:
1) Me.
2) Elementalist
3) 40/40 fire set
I didn't exactly respect all the rules.. but anyway... this build is an AB build designed to spike an NPC shrine or group of enemies for very high damage in a very short amount of time. It takes 25 seconds of recharging before all my spells are ready for another spike. Energy is never an issue during battle as the build has good energy management.

Rhedd, I read the topic title and immediately thought of what the taxi cab driver yelled at me when I cut him off yesterday by accident.

Now go do the test, you!
Carinae
I stayed true to the purpose of the thread, but I needed to adjust the procedure. It should be valid, because it was maintained for 180 seconds. I could have maintained that indefinately, no prob.

Nice, Carinae, that should dissolve all doubts of the absolute power of the minion master. I don't think anything can match that dps, but to top it all, minions provide the utility of meat shields. Not to mention you have shamblings, which provide degen that doesn't register on the MoD.
Still, I don't understand the need for Tahlkora in this test. You should be able to maintain all 10 minions the whole time, since the dummies provide constant corpses, right?

I only used Fiends for this run, no Shamblings. Tahlkora was just there to heal me so that I didn't have to self-heal. That would have taken energy away from OoU. It was an accurate battle-simulation.
Note: Tahlkora is on Passive.
