Inappropriate Ads
Inde
I just wanted to let you all know that we are aware of some inappropriate ads that are currently in our ad rotation. If you see them, you'll know what I mean and we are working on removing these as soon as possible.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Yea, I was actually just about to make a thread, because for about the last 25 times I've loaded a page, it's been either some porno ad or something about Jessica Simpson putting on a scuba suit or something.

It's a sign... GW2 will be rated M for Mature...
Seriously, I've seen it twice now, and it's making me curious what happens if I do click on it...

Clicked one, lead to some dodgy site...then the anti-virus went haywire stay clear if you only own the one computer, and it holds valuable stuff.

I did a wikipedia to see what the shit really is (i think that vanga stuff or whatever) and its an adware/spyware site so DO NOT CLICK on it unless you want your computer screwed up.
Also, im noticing whenever I get on the site that more pop up adds are coming up than before that I have to close and i'm worried if any of the links have spyware/adware or viruses. Can anyone inform me on this (inde prefered, as she is most reliable here).

Sorry bout the new thread I started. I did a search for Zango figuring if anyone started a thread about it it would have that in it. Glad you guys are on it. Like I said I'm an adult and it really doesn't bother me, but I know some 10 year old's mom/dad will see it and freak out!.

One thing strange I have noticed with these banner ads .... when you mouse over them it doesn't show a URL. Most ligitimate ads do.
"Don't Click" is my first, and only response to such ads.
Edit: They seem to be gone now. Good job Inde!

Interesting you should mention adware/spyware/hijackers. The last time my AVP ran a scan, the only 'intruder' (low-risk) it found was a cookie from gwg. Because I know about the advertiser here, I didn't worry about it . Now I'm wondering because of Zango... should I? Nah... Inde cleaned that up... thank you... and I don't get any clues that I have adware/spyware/hijacker on my system like you seem to be getting, in which case I would suspect some other site than gwg is hijacking your browser.
Additional resources for hunting down and killing adware/spyware/hijackers (besides a good AVP):
Spybot
Adaware
HijackThis is for more advanced users, so I won't provide a link, but if you pursue it be careful of the MajorGeeks site. They employ one of those advertisers like TOPtext that turns words on a site into hyperlinks to their advertisers' sites virtually hijacking the site... *shakes head in confusion*
Btw, Zango is still on Symantec's adware list (adware.Zango.search). And as late as this month, Zango was discovered engaging in deceptive practices... still... even after the FTC charged them in late 2006. Wow.
From the wikipedia entry on Zango:
"In early 2008, a malicious Facebook widget was discovered by Fortinet as luring users to install Zango under the pretence of identifying a “Secret Crush”."

I saw one of those a couple days ago, and mom my freaked out when she walked in the room, but the way i was reading the first post of a thread, it made it look like I was staring at the porno ad. needless to say, Inde you've saved me XD.

Some of the ads are taking forever to load up as well. The rest of the page will load, but the ad will keep it from displaying. If I hit the Stop button in Opera, it stops loading the ad and displays the rest of the page just fine. If I don't hit the stop button, the page won't load.
This may not belong here, but I don't want to make a new thread. Trying to keep things tidy for ya, Inde.

Not a porn one, but an online poker/gambling banner advert prompted me download software just now. Sadly I didn't catch the name, but if it happens again (it's the green one with a distinctive white 'P' (I know, very descriptive)) I'll make note and post it here.

Thanks for the heads up, we'll see about getting these removed as well.
