GW stuck on "connecting to arena net" screen

A friend of mine is having trouble trying to open his game because when the "connecting to arena net" screen comes up it hangs on 0% and doesn't do anything else. He says he downloaded an update (not sure when) and from then on hasn't been able to connect. He has tried resetting his router and turning off his firewall to no avail. If anyone is having the same problem or knows how to fix the issue, your help would be appreciated.

This happened to me just today. I left my main character in Ascalon and when I tried to log her in, all I got was the loading screen for the area. After waiting about 5 minutes, the bar suddenly went from 0% to 100% and then... nothing. I tried relogging again but same thing happens.
But that's only the beginning of my problems. On my fourth attempt to log into Ascalon, my character selection screen shows my main character now naked! I'm not kidding. I already sent a ticket to NCSoft about this and I hope this will be resolved soon. The strange thing is, my friend who is in another room and who shares my router (and internet connection) was in RA all this time. I asked him to log and relog and he had no problem. I suspect that it has something to do with the Asia-Korean district where I left my character after I logged off. My friend was playing in the European districts.
It would be interesting to see what NCSoft would say about this glitch and I do hope nothing happens to my main character's 15k armor and stuff...

Im having the same problem for a week. Ive re-installed the game and the first time it was like it should be- very fast login 90-150 ms during the playing session , but now it takes me like 2-5 min to login the account then i have no problems. Any ideas would appreciated

It certainly sounds like a firewall problem. When you say he "turned off his firewall" are we talking "Windows firewall" or some other firewall such as Zone Alarm or Norton's? At any rate, make sure GW can go through all firewalls.

He only has windows firewall and nortan and he sais he turned both of them off

Hmm don't worry about your character's being naked, this happens sometimes to me, especially when gw is having problems connecting, all your gear will still be where you left it.
My suggestion to both of you is to redownload gw as it could be a corrupted .dat file. First, save your .dat file so you still have data if that doesnt work.
