What Will You Do If GW2 Is A Clonemmo?
Magikarp
I know I know, gw2 is a far way off, and we shouldn't make these conjured ideas of what it "could be"... but this is all more like a "what if" kinda thread.
The main point is, after all this time of waiting, the E3 comes out, it looks fantastic, better graphics than anything we've seen, and the previews on all the major sites and shows are saying how great its going to do.
we all wait in line at the stores an hour in advance, and get our copy to take back home and ravage till we can install it, and make our favorite classic characters like we've been waiting so long to do.
All the monk players are excited, getting to see all the new prots, the awesome skills, the warriors are waiting for that awesome new axe move they've dreamed of, mesmers hoping for a new horizon, paragons looking for that balance they needed....
then you see it...
a skill tree...
a million skills on one screen at all times...
warriors are aggro holding... "tanks"...
mesmers nothing more than debuffers, eles having long recast times, past 3 minutes and everything. necros are now mostly just degen/blood, and sins will be the most single dps in the game, capable of killing any class at any time.
you scream in horror....
then you open your inventory....
4 slots for rings
4 different chest armors, from outter, to inner..
armor classes, speed modifiers depending on your weight, necklaces, random headgear, gadgets, and weapons that have damage ranges from 140-596, and even mounts.... withOUT fast travel mapping....
all on top of a never ending, supposedly scaling leveling system...
if this were true, and the community of WoW players started merging more and more with the gws folks, saying, "NOOOOW its a good game", or something screwed up like that, and it got good reviews simply because we ALL know EVERY game reviewer seemingly has it out for gws and LOOOOVES corny WoW, would you still play it?
would you still love a game that isn't ANYTHING like the original? i know this is supposed to be an all new game and all, but im talking a straight up MMOClone, with no personality past its own story, professions, and graphics/sound.
what do you think you would do?

It's a clone thread!
Horus
i would probably still play it... i mean... it's still GW afterall^^ and im dedicated to GW, not matter what it is... but it probably would highly depend on my in game friends, if they would still play it, i would do same for sure
Songbringer
Yes, I would play it. I hope they get away a little bit from original gw. I don't mean make a wow clone but if they weren't going to do a full overhual of game mechanics then why make the gw2 anyway? I personally can't wait to see it.
Balan Makki
I'd wait for WoW2
Esan
In our other story, what would you do if GW2 turns out to be a sidescrolling platformer! A text adventure! A three horned zebra! A unicorn riding a bicycle!
Skyy High
I'd probably play it, if there weren't another good game that interested me being released at the same time. I'd be thoroughly disappointed, but at least it'd be an MMO in a world that I understood and knew the lore of (not to mention had certain long-time benefits a la HoM in), as opposed to something completely new.

Another words do I fear ArenaNet might make a game I won't like? Its possible, but history has shown they been pretty good so far in satisfying me as evident of me willing to buy the last 3 campaigns.
So why shouldn't ArenaNet be given the benefit of doubt that if you enjoyed the games they've made in the last 2+ years? Just because they are updating the graphics and changing some the gameplay doesn't mean they are incapable of producing a satisfying game.
If you have paid any attention at all to their campaigns, each one was radically different in that it upgraded the graphics and added new features that enhanced not just the campaign but the previous campaigns.
My advice, stay away from the notion of dread and fear, because its not going to help the wait for the GW2.

last thing the world needs is cloned emos.
i randomly threw a rock into the street the other day and knocked out a dozen natural "wild" ones.

I'd play it as long as I enjoyed doing so. No more, no less.

Aren't there a lot of clone mmo's that people play anyways?
Clones of Ragnarok
Clones of Ultima
Clones of Diablo
Clones of Clones
I'll play it as long as its a good game, and it has to be fantastic for a clone =P

awesome feedback. so far, i hear a lot of what my other friends were saying too. as for my personal look on it.. i love the 8 skill set design of gws 1, and losing that would greatly take away from the skill based appeal of what i really was attracted to gws for in the first place.
on the other hand, i'd try it. if it was too much like wow/eq/ect, or my warrior really was a worthless, stand there and take damage like a retard class, i'd stop.
just my opinions though!
haillllllls yeh!

Well if it is, atleast it wont have a monthly cost and I wouldnt mind playing a standard MMO for once. But i'd also be pissed,

I probably wouldn't buy it if it were to be like that.
Winterclaw
As long as it's free to keep playing after you buy it, I'm still getting it. QQ
Shawn The Divine
If warriors are aggro-holding tanks, I probably won't buy it. In fact I'd like it best if there wasn't a way to make a tank character at all, then it would force people to not suck at the game.
Lord Xivor
I'd quit. I hate MMO's. Guild Wars is not an MMO...it is a CORPG. Cooperative play in instances > massively multiplayer in open world.
Nanood
Most of the things you describe are just what i need to keep me mind numbingly mashing the keyboard for endless hours!
I'm in.
I'm in.
Jetdoc
As long as it has no monthly fee and continues the tradition of stellar graphics, I'd probably still buy it.
Lonesamurai
I'll buy it, play it and be happy cos a, it's free and b, IT'S FREE!
Hotaru_Reiki
Not at all. I HATE WoW. I bought it, I played it for months trying to get into it and trying all the different classes and doing as much as I could to find something I liked, and the one thing that ruins it is the players. I'm sure there's a lot of nice WoW players out there, but the game is ruined by a**holes.
So no, if GW2 is like WoW and attracts the same player base, I won't be a regular player.
Still gonna buy it though, cos im a sucker for a pretty box ^_^

As long as I don't have to spend the entire day walking, I'm fine.
What I'm not fine with is if Mesmers, once again, get smacked into the "unloved" category.

GW2 may not be everyone's cup of tea, but one thing I'm sure of; it won't be a clone. GW did waaaay too much that was unique for GW2 to be a clone. even if they kept it 1/2 the same it would stand out from the throngs of boring 20million stat, skill treed, lame combat, generic mmos.

I'l put on a bunch of lipstick and mascara, eat a gallon of ice cream then hide under my blankets and make a YouTube video about it like the "Just Leave Britney Alone" guy.

I would play any MMO out there (WOW, AOC, etc) for a slong as they FREE of any monthly charge. So if GW2 stays FREE I am in, even it is just copy-paste-rename MMOClone
Buster
Clone myself and keep playing GW2 two times over and then some ? I don't see any reason why anyone would think GW2 would be a clone of anything to begin with really.
Kattar
Are you planning on wacking all the devs and replacing them with WoW devs?
If yes, then I'm scared. And probably wouldn't play anymore. But since I doubt that's gonna happen, I'm not so worried about it. Especially if there's still gonna be no monthly fee.

I'd probably play it for a bit. If it felt too much of the same I'd just keep playing WoW.

I'd be a little sad that they couldn't stick to their own ideals and give us the GWs we know and love (yes, some of us here DO love GW and are not here just to bash it ^^).
I'd want to get it because I'd love to know what the storyline is and what's happened in Tyria, etc. It's something not a lot of people seem to talk about here - the story behind GW - but it's definately something I'm interested in seeing, quite apart from the shiny weapons and armor, skills, etc, that most people seem to desire.
We'll always still have GWs to play if GW2 turns out to be WoW with Charr.

I'd close it out.
Uninstall it.
Reinstall GW1.

Wahh, ANet is learning that their business model is inferior to others and they might copy parts in order to make more money, q.q.
I would laugh at all of you who don't understand that $15 a month is worth it to filter out the whiny noobs like the people who saturate Guild Wars.

I'd still play.

If I decide to buy GW2, it won't be right away. I will wait 6 months to a year, see what people opinions are of it. If it is too much like another game, nope, won't get it.
