Tex-mod what is it?

I've heard a lot about tex-mod when talking about the cartographer titles. What exactly does tex-mod do to help you get the title faster? Is it hard to download, and where exactly can you get it?

1. You utilise a texture modification so that you can more easily notice which areas you've already uncovered, and which areas you haven't.
2+3. There's a link to it on the Guild Wars Wiki. Here's something a little more in-depth:

Thank you Kale, but is there any chance that has a virus or anything that can affect my computer?

Some virus scanners will register a false positive when scanning the Texmod.exe file. However, the link on the wiki site leads to a clean version of the program, free of problems.
As for the cartography mod, it can be found at http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Guide..._modifications along with dozens of other fun and helpful mods created by the community.
If you need any help setting up Texmod, or the cartography mod, feel free to PM me in-game. IGN: Pyron Sy.

I have no idea how to use this TexMod thing.. Do I need another program with the .tpf files i downloaded? Or do i just put them into my GW folder?
HawkofStorms
You open the TPFs with TexMod. First you select which program to open with Texmod (Guild Wars). Then you select open file xxwhateverxx.tpf. Then "run program" (or something like that).
And no, Texmod won't have viruses and stuff to steal your account. Texmod has been around since Tomb Raider in 1996. It is a fairly safe program as long as you download it from a legit site. Many virus scanners will falsly ID texmod as a virus (especially McAffee) though since its a program that opens and temporarily alters another program. Just disable your virus scanner when you run it.

2. Download the mods you want to use (These should be in .tpf format and only that), make a folder specifically for them (i.e. C:\....\Guild Wars\tpf mods (Provided you use Windows)).
3. Run Texmod, click the large folder icon, navigate to your Guild Wars file and select "gw.exe".
4. Click the smaller folder icon, select "Browse," navigate to C:\....\Guild Wars\tpf mods (or wherever else you saved the .tpf's), select the mod you want to use.
5. Repeat step 4 if there are more than one mod you want to use.
6. Select the "Run" button on the lower portion of the Texmod window.
Guild Wars is now running with the mods, you can close the TexMod window. (Note, you can't use the command line functions such as -password when opening Guild Wars with the use of TexMod)
This is the simplest I can put it, if you don't understand this, just forget about the process entirely and live life as if you had never heard of it in the first place.

Thanks got it working now

There's several versions of that one, at least some of which appear to be broken - the one linked to from guildwiki doesn't work on my machine, for instance. I downloaded the file from another link I found with Google, and that worked.
Demonia
OK I have a problem. I have been using texmod for quite some time. I use it to help me getting cartographer titles for my characters. I downloaded, and used the one from the wiki page. I'v had no problems what so ever. I have had Norton Anti-virus 2005 on my machine ever since I purchased it. Now just the other day Norton starts taken a fit about texmod, and will not allow me to use the program. I added it to the exclusion list, I added the folder texmod is in to the exclusion list. Norton is still pitching a fit, and I cannot use texmod. Really sucks cuz I was almost done getting my derv her Canthan Cartographer title.
Kattar
Turn off the auto-detection or whatever Norton calls it. Yeah it's unsafe, but that's the only way I could get around it with McAfee. Sounds like that's what you'll have to do as well.

sorry for going off topic, ill post me problems on a new thread

As far as the file size for the tyrian cartography mod, considering there's over 150 images in the file, 10 meg is a decent size

Ok. I just started using texmod. I followed all the steps, ran guild wars with selecting the .tpf in the package mode. I did this, ran guild wars, nothing happened. Do I need the save the picture of my map anywhere? If it helps, i'm using tyria
ranger rothers
No,
Run Texmod
Select Gw.exe as the target application
Select Tyria - Gwen Cartograpy Made Easy.tpf as the Package Name
Run

Did GW do a new download and decompress when you ran it? If there is a program update when you start GW, that will subvert texmod, since it has already applied its changes to the old version. So, the new download will overwrite it and it will look like nothing has happened. In that case you simply need to quit GW and rerun it from texmod so the package is applied to the new version.
When you get a GW update notice while in game, quit GW, start it as normal to download the new version, quit again, and run through texmod.

Where do I find these .tpf 's?
Edit:
Never mind.

It has no updates for me, and ranger, that's exactly the steps I did. It just doesn't work. I'll get a picture when I get home in a few hours.

Here's a picture to better represent my situation. It shows my map after the settings i've selected with texmod, which you see also.
There is nothing in my out folder. Also, the most common guide tells me to take a picture of my map, but doesn't tell me what to do with it. I know its 1280x768 (or something like that, don't remember exact dimensions) and fullscreen, but I don't know what to do with that picture.
Any insight would be amazingly helpful.
Read my above post for a few more details. Thanks.

Your screen is a bit hard to read, but I don't recognize the name of the package you have loaded. I use "GW_Tyria - Gwen Cartography Made Easy.tpf". Are you using something different, or did you rename the package for some reason?
You do not need to take a screenshot of the map when using texmod for cartography. That is done only for the older way of doing cartography where you use a graphics program to compare your screenshot with a reference screenshot of a map that has been completely cleared. I don't know which guide you consider to be the most common, but it surely describes how to do this or it isn't much of a guide, and it is dead wrong if it tells you to use a screenshot with texmod. If you want to follow this process instead of using texmod, I suggest you find a different guide that does tell you what to do with your screenshot. All the guides I've seen explain this in detail.
I'm not sure why you expect something to be in your "out" folder. Texmod does not output anything to your disk. It modifies the map that you see in-game while you are playing. Your U-map and M-map should show colored "fog" that retreats as you move around clearing the area.

Yeah, well after that image I had spent countless hours attempting to get it to work. I got the mods from the official wiki, and yet still nothing work. I've tried EVERYTHING, and i'm not even kidding. I have reinstalled texmod, turned off firewall, moved the folder everywhere, ran gw with an -image, and nothing. Is there ANYTHING that might solve my problem?

Edit: I see that the name of the tpf was changed when the author updated it recently, so it should now be "Tyria - EotN Cartography Made Easy.tpf", which still doesn't look like what your screen is showing.
There are also two videos on YouTube that may help by showing exactly how it works:

I've used the youtube video and the Q&A to troubleshoot. I've downloaded all the files for guild wars using the -image trick. I'm using the packages from the official wiki, and I tried others. The links are in a UI - Interface page. Let me get the link:

I use the cartography maps from that page on the official wiki.

Sigh. I give up. I've asked twice now for the exact name of the package that you're loading into texmod. I don't know why it is so difficult to answer that simple question instead of just waving your hand and saying "it came from over there somewhere". The video guide says that it just won't work for some people, so I guess you'll just have to do your cartography the old fashioned way. Good luck. I'm outta here.
Darcy
@ Loveless - the package showing on your pic is named "CARTOGRAPHY - TYRIA ONLY"
This is not the correct file name. If you downloaded the file and renamed it then it will not work.
Go to http://www.mediafire.com/?yuzy6pefeha and download Tyria -EotN Cartopgraphy Made Easy.tpf

If so, it sounds like your browser is misconfigured to try to open the files. Instead, right click on them and save them to the hard drive somewhere.

Another thing you might wanna try, is running Textmod with Admin privledges.
My GW runs off Admin access, so my Textmod has to run with Admin access. I've had mods that don't work cause I didn't run it with Administrative Permissions.
Also, I use "Cartography Made Easy Complete Collection". Works great. This way, I have all maps, and don't have to keep downloading new files when I want to move onto the next area.

That's the link from Wiki for Cartography Made Easy Complete Collection. Make sure that when you are running Textmod, that you don't already have Guild Wars open as well. I know that sounds like a stupid thing, but it has happened. Once you select your program (GW.exe) and then selected the file you wish to use (any .tpf), click the box at the bottom that says Run. And if Guild Wars does an update, you'll need to close Guild Wars after the update, and click Run again. Otherwise, your stuff won't show up.
