I think they can use English in addition to Asian languages because Chinese/Japanese/Korean GW is Pay to play.. I think. Correct if im wrong.

Personally i wouldn't use asian characters in my names, but i don't see why we should have the limitation, if i recall correctly you can put asian characters in the name of your character but it will be considered invalid.

Now, the fact that Guild Wars lacks a better interaction interface it's a whole different story. People have problems adding asian names to their contact lists just as they have problems adding the "||| (name) |||" to their contact list, but this is due to a poor design. We could have a way to copy any name to our clipboard in a simple way (currently we can do it, either from the private message function when you select a name from the chat, or the party window when you select it from around). But, something like a menu when you select a character would be very helpful, you could get the options of trade, copy name, add to friends, blacklist it, invite to guild...

I usually don't post here in guru, i can't understand why some (and i emphasize the "some" because i know is not everyone) people seems to be so intolerant to others, english isn't the first language of many people playing games. And, instead of discuss the possibility of remove a restriction imposed on the names we can use, this almost turned into an english contest. English is not my primary language either, i want and work on improve it and i would like to spell it correctly, but to say that if you don't spell english correctly your opinion doesn't matter it's simply intolerance.

You can type in japanese in guild chat, but not local.

You wont be able to use it in names.

Even setting Windows langauge japanese?

I have a Japanese computer and I can type in Japanese in local with it, however, I am unable to create a character with kana characters in its name.
It would be unfair for us to have to try and figure out HOW to type out a name in chat, invites, etc with characters that are totally unfamiliar to us. (they DO teach English in China, Taiwan, Korea and Japan---I was there I was an English teacher, they use the alphabet constaintly, so its NOT an issue if they must use it, but it IS an issue for us to use kana et al.).

OT: Japanese and Chinese characters? Bring 'em on I say. Diversity FTW.

Oh, please no! Whatever happened to naming your character something like "Entan Treechopper" or "Malory Dubarr?" People pick the stupidest names these days.

Now these days people want to pretend they're Naruto and crap. Nevermind it's a pain in the ass to type those characters and not everyone even knows how.

since i was beta-ing some korean MMORPGs, my windows has always been in korean.

However my Guild Wars has always been a US account...as such i can only type in english.
