How can I get the BMP without a credit card?
I can’t even get a friend to get it for me because my friend will not (and rightly so!) give out her credit card number to anyone and I will not give out my password for my GW account to her so that she can log in and sign up for me. She lives in a different country so she can’t come over to help me with this. I also have a lot of accounts and would like to get more than one BMP (one for each account that is).
I hope the BMP is around for something like 8 months or so because that is how long it may take me to borrow a card number to get the BMP.
By the way, I am a Canadian living abroad. If I was back in Canada, I could get a credit card without issue, but I have been away too long and can’t get one there, nor as a foreigner where I am. Having no credit card is not an issue at all except for when it comes to GW.
The primary reason I began to play this game instead of other online games is that I don’t have a credit card so I cannot pay to play (but I love this game just the same and am glad I play this one rather than others). However, this 'online store only' thing is really annoying. Will there ever be a way to get the BMP otherwise?

Can you get a pre paid debit/cc anywhere there? I know here (US) they are available everywhere, and friends abroad in many countries get them where they are as well. Anet did say initially it would be in stores as well but I haven't seen anything as yet.

Most countries have at least one company with pre-Paid credit cards.
In Spain it is "La Caixa", and they call it "Cibertarjeta".

Several other friends here have tried as well and had similar results. For example, I just began to DM a game of D&D here and another married couple just joined the group and they also don’t have a credit card.
They are having difficulty continuing with WoW because they have not returned to Canada to pick up the prepaid WoW game cards. So, I told them about Guild Wars not needing a credit card to play, so now they have ordered the GWs game and the wife is calling the store every day to see if it is in yet. She can’t wait to play with me and my friends who are in Japan.
Actually, there are a lot of Canadians here without credit cards. It is a cash culture so there is no need for one at all unless you are an online gamer it seems.

La Caixa had those too, they cost 3€, though, unlike the Cibertarjetas, that are completely free.

OP I feel your pain (I did a 2 year teaching stint in japan and had the same problems).....is there anyway some one at home could get you a pre-paid card and MAIL it to you (nicely hidden in say a care package)....that way your friend wouldnt need to give out her cc info and you would get a pre-paid card (that may or maynot work.....would need to figure out which ones ARE working on the online store first).

You can use a bank transfer I suppose, that's how I got it (at DLgamer), but since you're not in an European country, it will probably cost you extra and it might take days for the amount to be transferred...

i have the same problem not being required to use a cc was one of the reasons i got into gw.

My closest friend lives out on a farm two miles away from the nearest city. But he would be most willing because I introduced him to GW by buying it for him for Xmas. He is a casual player as he is really busy, but maybe he can get into town at some point.
I also could ask my folks, but they are touring around India at the moment so it would have to wait until they got back.
Either way, I have to wait. I hope the BMP the offer doesn't run out anytime soon.

Either one of you can use the paypal plugin for firefox/ie to generate a one-time-use virtual credit card and then pay with that - that's what I do if my bank is lame and doesn't get a new card to me when the old one expires.

Paypal needs at least one funding source, it can be a credit card, bank account, etc.
I think they require a "backup funding source" for some things but I've always just given them the debit card that's tied to the same bank account they already have :-p

You could also ask a friend to buy the code at DLgamer for you, and he could send you your keycode. That might work faster than a bank transfer

Unfortunately for gamers in such distinct places like us, I don't think they'll be able to provide better solutions than a credit card... How about 'guanxi' over there? Maybe another - more lenient bank?

ask a real life friend, show them the money that you are going to pay them back, take them to your computer where the game is, make them pay for with their credit card, after it is activated, I think it is instant, you give them the cash. then take them for a drink !

You could write them a mail in english (Kontakt = contact, Ihre Email = your email, Betreff = Topic, Ihre Nachricht = your message, absenden = send). Most likely they'll understand it.
Though international money transfer from Taiwan to Europe probably isn't worth it..
Are there no non-NCSoft online stores outside Europe, which sell the keys?

lets see you have any friends or family that has one and is close to you, you must know someone. 1 of the people you hang out with must have one? and if they do give them the money for it and use it im sure they will not mind friends normaly do not mind thats why we call them friends. I think everyone has 1 person they know well enought to use his/her CC for a 1 time use.

North American & Asian distribution is handled by other parts of NCSoft, but i doubt they'll handle it much different.

Thanks to all of you trying to help. I will look into all of your suggestions.
As for the real life friends - most of them don't have credit cards either. It's a cash culture here. You don't even buy things with a debit card here. The other half that do have a card don't ever want to post their number on the internet for fear of it being stolen somehow.

Even if you managed to have somebody send you a cc from your country, there's no guarantee that you can use it in the GW online-store. Reason?

According to the GW/NC support their store will only accept cc transfers from the country where the used card was issued, to prevent fraud.
