well..they didnt officially announce the dragon festival till just a few days before its start..and I stillt hink that was cause so many were complaining that it looked like Anet was trying to skip the festival.
the official chineese new year is Feb 7th -15th...so I would look for the Canthian New Year to be announnced for either this coming weekend or the weekend of the 15th.

If a Canthan New Year is not planned, then I'm very shocked. There's a stealth update that happened on Lunar Fortunes from last year. I have a stack of Lunar Fortunes that I just didn't feel like opening and they are now listed as "Lunar Fortune [Year of the Pig]".
This heavily implies that they planned to have different fortunes to be handed out depending on the year.
I think that I must be the only person with leftover Lunar Fortunes so I'm the only person that noticed.

All I can say is that the even will end in disappointment if they don't give us a hat I can dye. There's not been a mask as good as the Dragon Mask since it came out.
I will be glad to see the short return of Racing and DA.

What happens? If you just log-in and play will you get some kind of bonus?

depends on the event. On an event theirs special quests, activities and aghmes which can earn you prizes. On the Finale a NPC will come to a town every 3 hrs (i think) and he will give out the hat.

EDIT: Actually, make it MORE easily obtainable. I played every day but could not be in Cantha for the finale, and didn't get any pig - because it was very rare until it started raining pigs in the finale.

I don't like the idea of getting stuff simply for being logged in a particular day. Not only did that mean I did not get the minipig, but much worse, I didn't get the yuletide cap of the first wintersday, because it was only afforded between 8 in the evening and 8 in the morning on new years eve - when I definitely wasn't playing GW. That's my single biggest annoyance in all my time of playing GW. I haven't been interested in any of the other hats, but I really wanted that yuletide cap.
For some other objects, e.g. candy-cane weapons, there are collectors where you turn in something you obtain via quests to get the object.
EDIT: Oh yeah, for any event, always check guildwiki for details. The other players cant or wont tell you what is going on and when (trust me on this, the amount of misinformation flying around every event is astounding), and there is zero official information, so checking guildwiki is a must if you want to avoid missing out on presents.

If Anet decided to give everyone an easy chance to get all the rare things i have i wouldn't care at all. Make the Mini Rat super easy to get (like piggy was)

They have time yet but if no one has been working on it I doubt we'll get much if any new content. A repeat would be nice though for new players who have not attended the event though. I think sometimes the dinosaurs around here forget every day new players come to the game and not everyone has been around since beta
