The new 8800GTS runs on the new chipset and is very comparable with the higher models, it's the old 8800GTS (non 512mb ones) that were lower grade, frankly if I were you I wouldn't waste the money on the GT, there is literally 1-2 fps difference in most games, for £200+ extra cost. I thought about it for a while but I can't justify paying £100 per single fps

Errr...wut? I think you're looking at the GTX, THAT one is a lot more expensive. The GT 512 DDR3 is only 270 euros, the GTX is like 450.
I'm not that stupid, did some investigation of my own

I would boast about my computer, but it's so powerful once it got wind of how great it was it would initiate world domination.

The GTX still shines and outperforms the G92 GTS 512 when you prefer higher resolutions like 1680x1050 or need more AA/AF.
Oh, and additionally. I find it funny that people spend so much on graphics cards etc. while playing with a TN-panel (I assume the OP bought one of those) which is clearly inferior to S-PVA or S-IPS in every aspect.

Check the charts, 40 euro price difference, 2 FPS difference. ( GT - GTX ) Hmmm....I'll stick with the GT

1280x1024 8AF?
Seriously, of course there's not much difference with such settings. Now try DIRT or Crysis or just quality features (4xAA, 8AF for instance). A 22" user won't be too happy, I can assure you that.
I have a 8800 GT at home and I can't recommend it for users above 1280x1024. Other than that it's a very fine deal. Don't need those high resolutions or much AA? Go get it!

I do recommend the GT for high resolutions and AA.
Just... enable AA through the NVCP instead of ingame, it seems to work better with the same visual effect, whereas most ingame AA seems to cause considerable lag.

Dual 8800 GTs would cost about the same a an 8800 Ultra, but perform even better. I'm personally going to wait for nVidia's 9-series to come out (Im building a computer in 2009, in preparation for GW2.)
