Who here has their visual themes disabled in their GW.exe/Properties/Compatility Tap with checked off?I do this all my games and I was wondering if it is good idea for GW or not.

I've actually never heard of this, what's it supposed to do? Stop whatever theme your desktop is using from being applied to the GW window or something? If so... are visual styles even applied if you're playing full screen instead of windowed? This be interessin'.

What this does I do believe is turn everything into Win 98 mode instead of XP.There is a beta testor on another board I post on who say to do this for older games.

older games, such as heroes of might and magic III, diablo II, etc.

GW is a fairly new game, and shouldn't benefit from this.

I really don't see the point of doing this for any game made after year 2000 or so. It did fix some problems for me for some ancient games, but there really is no difference in "new" ones.

Themes take up very little/few resources. You'd literally see no benefits at all from not using a theme and using the Windows Classic theme.

I've been running Vista (ultimate) for over 4-5 months...no problems aside from some old apps not being compatible. it is no more garbage than XP was at release.

-if you have a 'garbage' system, then yes...vista is garbage.

You don't understand how Vista handles RAM now, it actually makes MORE use of it compared to XP. It's SUPPOSED to be used, it loads and unloads data on the fly constistantly whatever your doing.. If you have 2GB RAM and it is using 1.8GB RAM, good! It is just caching programs you may open around that time so they load quicker, if you go and load a game such as Guild Wars, it will re-allocate the RAM and give GW say 800MB of RAM or whatever it needs...

It's on the fly loading and unloading data on the RAM, Vista makes more use of RAM than XP did.

However, saying that - I don't even use Vista. I loaded it once and just didn't like it in general.
