A place for necros/rts in pve?
Loli Krasivaya
Basically, in my understanding pugs work monk > ele > warrior > everything else.
But looking at that, I can't help but think my ele doesn't do that much damage and in at least nm my mm out tanks any warrior.
Do necros and rits have a place in pve? HM? High-end? If so, as what?

Yes, they do these days. When the game was newer, it was the "holy trinity" of warriors, monks, eles. Now? Necros are actually desired in almost every party. As MM, Spiteful Spirit, Blood with blood ritual or blood is power, etc. There are tons of skills and builds that are useful and desired in a party.
Rits might be a bit harder to get into groups, largely because they are not a core class. Rits can be great healers, have party-wide protection spirits, and great damage dealers. (Have you seen an offensive "spirit-bomber"? I love it!). Again, because it is not a core class and not everyone has played one or seen one in action, people do not understand the role they could play in a group. (Sadly, mesmers still get that as well, and they're a huge asset to any group).

Yes, there is a place for any well-played profession in any mission or challenge. The cookie-cutter mentality is slowly, slowly dying (thank god!).

Necro's can do a lot of damage with the right hexes too, ss and sv nec's have always been around for great damage, and rits can do a good job healing or spirit spamming, the spirits are great because they can take some damage for the team.

The overpowered pve-only skills (and I am not even talking about ursan blessing here) open up High end areas for you.
But Necro's weren't in such a bad position before anyway. Urgoz, DoA , formerly Tombs have always found some use for them. Ritualists had a harder time but find their use now as well in every High end mission I know ... Pugging in general is hard but there is no profession (even my beloved Mesmer) that wouldn't fit in my friendslists parties.

PuG's suck in general. This is because they lack the ability to think. Leave them alone in their little world and laugh to yourself about how they're spending twice as much time and effort to get something done as you.
Soul Reaping is amazing, don't underestimate it. In alot of HM threads, people (including me) recommend using 3 Necromancers (often referred to as 'Sabway'), I'll get the link when I get around to it. It's based on having soul reaping trigger off frequently to power their insane abilities.
Don't know too much about Rit's tbh, but Channeling/Resto combos work well apparently. Ancestor's Rage and Splinter Weapon seem to be good skills, I'd go with them.
EDIT: Here's the link to the 'Sabway' build I mentioned, just scroll down to Sab's first post.
EDIT: Wow, I'm an idiot, this is what happens when you do too much at once. The link posted by withcblade is outdated, this one is updated with hex removal and stuff.

Something on the lines of a Necro with a Flesh Golum, Animated Minions, and a like 3 spirts, then some attacks and a hard rez = good necro.
Works well with Rt/N, but just in a different way.

Curse Necromancer with Spiteful Spirit, Mark of Pain, Reckless Haste, Barbs and Enfeebling Blood and stuff like that are in fact damage dealers as well as debuffing enemies.
While Elementalists lose power due to their almost 100% armor depending damage, Necro Hexes like Parasite and SS get buffed with foes that attack faster and are armor ignoring.
Ritualists can add amazing damage to your attackers with Splinter Weapon and Ancestors Rage.
Necros got the deserved respect already IMO, people ask for Curse Necros and MMs. The interesting thing is that Elementalists are still seen as damage dealers, in hard mode I usually prefer Earth Magic due to its utility (unsteady ground, Eruption) over the usual Fire Magic nuker.

Yes, they do. A minionmaster/minionbomber should be welcome almost anywhere, including in HM and High-End, and I know Explosive Growth bombers and healing ritualists are very effective, and wouldn't personally mind bringing one in HM/High End.
Whether that means the average Wammo would want a minionbomber or healing rit in his group... Well, that's another story. And "high end" today is pretty much = Ursan.

Necros have always had a place in PvE.
Rits are now being accepted as people learn of their value. PUGed quite a few missions in Factions with my resto rit and one monk, plus their versatillity makes them useful in many situations.
I remember getting yelled at by a wammo one time because my "minions are getting in the way"

I find both are extremely usefull.
A pair of Rits in a party can have a dramatic effect on the entire parties dmg and defence.
I like to run a Channeling/Rest and a Comuning/Rest rit together, one focusing on dmg and healing spirits with the other using weapon spells for the same effects. Add in a single monk and you can steam role most missions with ease.
Necros have always been one of the strongest of any proffesions with multiple builds to help the party defeat any foe they come across.

Onyx Blindbow
Necro's and Rits are simply the 2 most powerful chars in the game (when played right)
I used to love playing as my ele wanted a different char and I made a necro 2 months ago and realised just how powerful they are, even more power than an ele in all aspects of PvE.
Now I just have my monk and ele for farming, my ranger and warrior for when I feel nostalgic and my necro for title hunting (10 titles in past 6 weeks) the necro has become my mainstay char and will remain that way, although I may make a farming rit soon xD

Mouse at Large
You will be amazed at how efficient a Sab's build team with an extra Rt/N Jagged Bones/Explosive Growth/Boon of Creation/Spirit's Gift MM can be in areas with fleshies when HM vanquishing.
