How would you like to tie in your current characters in guild wars 2?
Stoneys Rock
Well, how would you like the second game to tie in your characters, example:
(My suggestions are mostly based if you were still in the HoM spiritually like a ghostly hero...with a normal voice.)
If your a human you go to the legendary person who stopped the Lich and saved the world countless times to help you in whatever your doing. He/She then gives you the power to fight against the evils you encounter.
Or if your a charr you go and ransack a human temple (HoM) of the said legendary person for your warband and end up fighting /coughcountlessminis/cough your previous character then taking his power after a grueling fight.
the Norn could go on a hunt for a specific animal or creature who retreats into (you guessed) the hall of monuments and then instead of slaying the creature you turn to your gw1 counterpart and aim to raise your reputation fighting him and gain the power he/she possesses.
The Asura could send you to scout the hall of monuments to discover the ancient secrets of the scrying pool where you encounter your guild wars 1 counterpart. There you ask him about the pool and about the adventuring with the destroyers, the player then sensing the Asuras selfless want to understand things to help his people gives the Asura his/her power enablng that Asura to venture into dangerous territories to find ancient secrets untold.
The last one being the Slyvari being relatively new in tyria are asked to explore a certain part of the norn lands and then discover the hall of monuments. Curious they enter and encounter your hero, asking many questions about him and themselves and the land, your hero then giving their power to the slyvari who experience his events and his knowledge who goes back to share with her people.

I am not sure what you are getting at but if you mean by someway of bringing your GW1 char over to GW 2.They Anet could make up the same char. templates from GW to GW2.

I'm gonna pass my hall off to my Charr brethren. I have a big RP story behind my main helping them in some sort of attack, etc., and so he's now "honored" with them.
It felt like a lot of the voice acting sounded...anime-ish. Did anyone else feel that?
OH speaking of voice acting do not give my main character in GW2 catchy lines! It kills immersion.

Well, see, I pay 50 bucks and then I get to play Guild Wars again, since they broke this one.

I would imagine that you would do some missions to find the tome of your ancestor, in which is a bunch of stuff from the HoM, or at least a version of those items as they would appear in GW2.
Another idea would be to have some quests where you visit or are visited by the ghost of your GW1 character, who then tests your GW2 character then bestows some things on him or her, (again from the HoM).
Really, though, I would simply like to be able to have one of your previous characters as a companion/hero in GW2; perhaps they could be in ghost form, or some other state that could explain them still being around 250+ years later...

Since that's what ANet has said will happen, I'm happy.
Beyond that, I want GW2 to be a whole new game with whole new characters.

i dont really care, i just hope they'll drop the HoM idea

Hall of Heroes....
Like...imagine walking into an area and seeing NPCs walking around, and its your old characters (if you are linked).

Other then that, I think in order to unlock the benefits of your GW1 character's HoM in GW2....
Step 1 - Authorize your GW1 account with your new GW2 account; that would be done through the website by restating your GW:EN key code (if you bought it online, activation code) on your new GW2 account. (Like wise to how you gained Veterancy if you were a battlefield 2 player before battlefield 2142)
Step 2 - You should not need the same last name as your characters in GW1, that is much too strict for those who like to at least be halfhearted RPers and don't want a charr and human with the same last name. Thus the whole thought of "descendants" should be booted up the arse.
Step 3 - Since Step 2 would be gone and should never be implemented into GW2 *COUGHREADTHATTWICEANETEMPLOYESSCOUGH*. Instead there should be a quest available to your new character of your chosen race (each race would have different quests), ready to be done straight from the beginners area. The OP had some good original ideas of how each race would come across a human's "tomb" of loot.
Step 4 - Upon competition of the quest you would be able to reap the rewards repeatable times, sorta like how preorder items work. They'd be specific to your character, and untradeable/droppable. (If Anet chooses to rinse/wash/repeat the same formula it used for preorder items)
Step 5(hint hint hint) - Do not follow the same "oh heres a sword, or maybe daggers". How about some deeper rewards such as skills or garments, or hats. Maybe even auras for emotes or something. I mean these titles take a lot of time.. If I get "ebon butter fly knives" that will have no use after level 5 for my GW2 assassin, when it took me X hours to get the title to get it... In short what I'm trying to say is difficulty of title = reflect in the amount of use you can get from the item.

You can't see me
I'd like see a ghost of my old character appear and have a short meaningful dialogue with my new one, and then give the new one a blessing that will help him in his task.

Great way to sell more copies of GW1, promise players they'll have a change to squash half the server with Boss World crusher.

I would like a portrait of my current characters scowling, hanging prominently in whatever homebase I have. The story would center around my new character having to live up to this revered ancestor and not sully the once great family name (any further).

The title monument will give you some title(I'm thinking something like "Old Timer"), the minipet monument will give you a minipet, the hero/pet monument will give you access to some kind of special companion or pet, etc... it would be cool if there would be individual rewards for each accomplishment but I doubt it, I think thats why Anet has been so vague about the HoM rewards. Of course they may of already stated there would be individual rewards, I haven't bothered to read all of the stuff on gw2. lol Now to get back on topic. I think the op has some great idea's on how to link them but I'm expecting us to just start out at the HoM.

The second would have less of an impact on the community crossing over from GW1, but those people who did work towards their HoM, but didn't manage to completely fill theirs would not receive anything for their contribution. Also, there are certain things that are unobtainable for the majority of the players, such as the rarer minipets of which there are a limited stock (rollerbeetle, of which there are currently only 100 in existence, possibly 200 after Canthan New Year this year).
It would also just piss everybody off, since it would seem like such a cop out.
Personally, I predict that there will be a specific reward for each statue, with the exception of the armour monument. Since there are professions with less armours than others (professions from later campaigns), then it would be a bit unfair to offer specific rewards for each individual statue. I don't know how to handle that without annoying some part of the community. I predict that the titles and minipets will translate directly, so for each title, you get that same title in GW2 (probably with the prefix "Eternal", just like in the HoM) and for each minipet... well, you get the point. For the armour monument, however it is handled, it'll unlock craftable armours in GW2. For the hero monument, it'll probably give unique companions. I have no idea what the weapon monument should give.
All of that is just speculation, of course, and I could be entirely off. But it would, in my mind, be the logical rewards.
As for how the HoM is unlocked, I like the idea of a quest to discover the HoM, and a different one depending on the race of the character.

GW1 Characters to GW2 aint happening and you dont want to happen. Your GW1 character will be 100+ years old unless they found Foutain of Youth then ya they can be in GW2 but no one has found it in GW1 so your character couldnt move from the old age.

yeah because the guild wars plot has made alot of sense so far, im just saying it would be more fun to not have to start over.

They could develop the netcode and the pretty graphics, but let Blizzard do the writing and the game balancing.
And call it Diablo 3.

After all, some things are a lot more difficult than others to get. What would be determined as a HoM worth something in GW2? Would it be a "full" HoM in terms of how many monuments you could display (as in 10 weapons, 20 minipets, and 5 for each other monument), or would it be a completely full HoM, with absolutely every statue you can possibly get? The first one would piss off the veteran players, since, as mentioned, some things are much harder to obtain than others.

If you know Schwarzenegger's "Conan the Barbarian" movie, I can imagine a similar scene:
You, a Charr Hunter, break into the ground in Norn territory, chased by stone wolves. You fall a few meters and then discover that you are in some sort of temple/treasure chamber. On an iron throne you see the skeleton of some kind of human hero plus several funny small statues that you cannot decipher.
You decide to take the magical sword, that looks like some kind of burnt wood, and the other gear as phat loot and dust off.

I want my new characters name after ancient heroes, that may be or may not be related to the new characters.
- "Mummy, where does my name come from?"
- "From and human hero that killed an evil god, dear".
- "Cool!".

I'm hoping they can be linked by "descendants". Like:
"(GW2 char name), Decendant of (GW1 char name)"
...mostly cause I don't necessarily like the name of the char I am working on my HoM for anymore, but didn't want to start a whole new one.

I would just like to have 'em represented at the Hall of Monuments as paintings (statues are too tacky). Like, these are the great men and women who destroyed the Lich, vanquished Shiro and rid the world of Abaddon 200 years ago. And depending on the monuments you have gotten, bonuses, armor, trinkets, whatever ANet decides to see fit to implement in GW2. Hopefully the whole thing is account-wide, so my GW2 characters can have a HoM with ALL my GW1 characters represented. Personally, I'd like to see them as stylish, old-fashioned paintings or murals, but dunno if that's gonna happen.
However, I do NOT want to have to use the same name as my GW1 character to reap the benefits, although there should be a "name reserve" option for those who do. For me personally it kind of kills the feeling of a GW1 hero if my GW2 character has the exact same name ... or is a completely different species.
This turned into a HoM mechanic and GW2 rant, sorry about that.
