Fix your idea for people who leech and abandon PvP games.
I try to go into a roller race. I have dialup and have to download a small file. it takes long enough to miss the start of the race. So the game makes me leave. I come back in the racing area and i have dishonorable hex. Blocking me from ANY pvp. WTF!!!!!!
You had better fix this Anet!

All you richers bash on a guy for having dial-up...
What if he can't get cable or DSL in his area? I have a few friends that can't have either because they live where the service isn't provided.
And also Cable and DSL cost more than dial-up, and so some people don't want to get it. And judging from the OP, this guy is merely a teenager who can't convince his parents to get cable or DSL.
So many outside factors that people are so blind to see.
My suggestion to fix this to have a page in the options menu to select your internet connection.
For example:
Choose connection speed:
dial-up (56k)
DSL (128k)
DSL (256k)
Cable
T1 and up
So when you choose your connection speed, it'll put a timer on you once you've entered the area. So for 56k connections in his case, it'll give him an extra 2 minutes before anyone can declare him a leecher. Though by then the beetle race would be over LOL, or he'd be killed in the arenas.
Then for like Cable, T1 and up it'll be like a 20 second timer once the player has joined the area before he/she can be declared a leecher.
Also then you're probably like, what if a cable guy chooses a 56k connection? umm...
Well, I don't think that'll affect much anyway unless if you're that stingy where you must declare a leecher in less than 30 seconds of the game starting.

I had a connection like yours last year, the only option was for me not to take part
Sorry.
Sorry.

People I know with dial-up avoid PvP because they can't load in time.
Sounds like Computerwiz1990 needs to update to Computerwiz2008.

Don't whine that Guild Wars (an online game) is slow when you're using dial-up (a slow online connection).
That would be like if some Roman warriors with spears and shields had a war today against machine guns and grenades and were like "What the crap! You guyz r haxx0rz!!"

Ya I had Dial-up for like 95% of time in GW. It was lagging so bad really bad and getting huge D/c's it hurt my Guild in GVG i would D/c right in middle of it. So i finally convince my parents to get DSL. Now having 320k DSL speed i dont lag or D/C anymore and I will load faster than most Cable. Here my Idea to fix your Connection problem. Talk to your Service provider about any deals for getting DSL. Get Dial-up DSL then you should be good. That what I have Dial-Up DSL. DSL that goes into the Phone Jack.

Sorry, but on the back of the boxes, in the system requirements, it states "56k Internet Connection" so the OP is well within their rights to be pissed off.

You get the dishonorable hex after missing one beetle race? I have no problem with you getting a dishonorable hit for missing your first race due to having to download the thing, but that's assuming you need 2 hits, like in RA.
If it is just 1 hit, I say make it 2, and just keep it how it is.

I bought BioShock recently (great game, by the way) and back then, I was sporting some old Radeon (can't remember specs), but anyway, it fell right in line with the "Minimum System Requirements", and, whenever I loaded up a level, even on lowest rez and everything, I would lock up and crash every 10 minutes.
Basically, minimum usually doesn't get you by when it comes to games.
Oh, yea, and calling people with Cable "richers" is really dumb, imo. I have Cable, and I'm not sure if I even fall into middle-class American.

Swift Thief
The problem is that the people who take a bit longer to load get kicked out of the roller beetle race. That itself, shouldn't happen, but then there is the dishonorable hex, which makes it even worse, because beetle race is not a team game, therefore it shouldn't even have dishonor.

You only get dishonorable after leaving twice. After you loaded the first time, you shouldn't have to load more files. Also, -image solves the problem.
I pwnd U
I played on Dial Up for about the first 5 months. I avoided PvP like the plague. Anytime I would I wouldn't always load in right away and would experience lag spikes. PvP on dial up is horrid, if you want to be serious about your PvP you need a better internet connection. And no cable is not that expensive, many people have it.
I understand where you are coming from though, getting kicked because you loaded in late sucks, but when you keep trying to get in and get the same result then that's just kinda dumb... pvp on dial up=baaaaad.

Undivine
The game can be played with 56k just fine, under good conditions, so it does qualify as minimum requirements. But it's not always in good conditions. Sometimes people have no choice but to get dial-up. If cable and DSL companies have not yet reached your area (like in rural areas) you usually only have 2 options; dial-up and satellite. And while satellite has pretty good download speeds, it's a high latency connection, so you'll still be stuck with lots of lag.
I wouldn't fault ANet for getting dropped from the race, but I would fault them for getting a dishonourable track for it. That just sucks.
But as other people have mentioned, use -image. Copy the Guild Wars short cut on your desktop, right-click and go to Properties, then insert "-image" at the end of the link address and press okay. Now when you double-click on that, it will download anything you need to play without having to download mid-game.

I agree. I have a networked T3 line, and because of the lag during the event, I slow loaded and got dishonorable repeatedly during bettle racing.
Seriously, for future reference a.net should remove dishonor from bettle racing. Having it in there is just silly for both leaving (how is it dishonorable to leave a 1v1v1v1v1v1 match like rollerbettle, you aren't letting down your teammate) and slow loading (punishing players with bad computers, smart).

Ok. Iam back from work.
First of all. All of you people saying dial up + GUild Wars/MMO = no. Not true. Guild Wars i read, was designed for people like me.
Out of the 2 years i have played GW. I never have gotten disatified with my connection. In my two years i have disc < 7 times. I have a very good connection for being dial up.
Its just I wanted to make that a point. They need to fix that.
