how much longer we have to put up with bots? (kamadan/etc)
hurric
ok as soon as I join in Kamadan I get this
so I say fine this is not the first time a bot has messaged me to buy gold. I'm going to repot and then:
if this is not bad enough for A.Net to take action, I don't know what is.

There have been threads on this before and Gaile has said that whispers will not be disabled on trial accounts. The responsible thing to do then would be either to add certain gold sites to a server-side blacklist such that they can not be sent in text at all, or allow users to filter messages. But GW1 has been end-of-lifed and I doubt they are going to waste any more programmer time on it. Hope that GW2 does it better.

Well, after being spammed constantly I'm sick of it too. So I'm sending them 10 emails per hour, and as soon as the support person accepts my msn request, they'll be spammed as much as possible until they block me.
Steboy93
Blocking chat on trials could be a start.

Removing the trials would also work if recoding them is too much effort. I'm sure marketing likes the trials, but I seriously doubt that they drive much business 3 years after release.

I started a new character in Factions tonight and as soon as I got to the monastery in AD1 I got a whisper for the same web site. Of course the sender wasn't in the same district so I added the name to my ignore list.
I also saw a stream of bots hit the Xunlai Agent, move slightly to the storage vault and then vanish. While that was going on, several more would run up the stairs to see Togo I guess.
Business as usual in the Monastery.

The bots would come to an end quickly if they would make me a GM

You still could've sent those screenshots to support via the old-school method, i.e. through the support section of the official website. Sure it's slower than /report, but you had time to put them on a hosting site and make this thread.
The couple I get a day I send over to support in this way. You can't catch them in the same district.

I just did a Who Is search to see what info there is about who owns the domain and followed a link to one of their sites. The following quote appears on one of them:
"Due to increasing fraud activities in this business, now we don't accept echeck, unconfirmed address and unverified account with paypal anymore,If your orders are above 50$, please choose other payment method."
There's fraud in their business?

Soon they will be promoting some porno site, just like it used to be in Diablo. Report em or ignore em, take your pick. Anyone know a simple way to report bots? Maybe should be a sticky at some point.
Pleikki
Report doesnt work some of em an many trial keys.

I've never had problems with bots PMing me, but yesterday i got 5 bots PMing. I'll keep them on ignore for a while till they "forget" about me, hopefully.

Answer to question of the thread title: forever.
Unless Anet disables chat abilities on trial accounts.

This is total crap. I'm on the friends list not of an individual bot, but a whole network of botting gold sellers. I get PMs from gibberish-named bot gold sellers *when I'm in a zone*! I ignore then, then another one PMs me. It happens every 10 minutes, sometimes more, sometimes less.
My ignore list is maxed out with bots that PM me so I can't even ignore them anymore. Can't report them because 1) they're stupid free trial accounts that recycle instantly, and 2) because they're usually not in my zone.
Ugh, I'm tired of this bunk....

They don't need to disable chat channel access on trial key accounts, as it wouldn't help genuine players who are trying trial keys.
What they should do, if possible, is give us the option to disable the receipt of PM's from trial key account characters. Maybe an option in the f11 window. If I can choose not to receive PM's from trial key accounts, I won't be receiving the gold-selling messages. The problem with the current chat system is that the ignore list is too short to block all the bots, and the only way to ensure I don't receive them is to go 'offline' or 'do not disturb', both of which stop genuine players from contacting me.
It also gets around the problem of cross-district reporting.

Can't we get the FBI to close down their sites or something? I imagine that would be much more efficient than banning them one by one until every giberish name in GW has been used.
Mercy's Mirror
I've been pmed when I logged in directly into my own guild hall. I can't report someone if I don't know where they are. And right now, my ignore list is full of gold-spamming bots...
garethporlest18
I just deal with it. BE A MAN. Not much we can do.
RiKio
I´ve never been pmed by those bots....so go to the non-English Districts. There aren´t bots there¡
ArTy
Filter out the gold selling site name (and numerous vaariations) across the whole GW universe. That should slow them down slightly

Be serious...
Selling online gold isn't illegal. You're paying for the time spent collecting the gold, not the gold itself. Might sound stupid, but it keeps them operating.
Plus, if the FBI wasted resourse on a computer game, there would be hell to pay.
Jensy
I generally only see this in American districts when I hop over to sell stuff. When in anything not American, no spammers.
It's horribly frustrating, however. I would love the ability to block PMs from trial accounts.

Can't a simple web address filter be applied to the chats; one that prevents you from sending web addresses? There should be very few instances where someone is inconvenienced by this.
