Hello,
I am a really big GuildWars fan, which I'm guessing most of you are too :P
But I have been thinking and wondering, what happens down the road, in a few years or so when they quit releasing expansions, and their profit decreases, are they always going to keep their servers up and running for us to play?
I am hoping that they know how much we have spent on Guildwars, and all our time leveling and such does not turn out to just come to and end some day.
Please answer this for me, i tried emailing GuildWars support, but basically just got automated answers that did not help one bit.
Thanks everyone! =D

i could get some proof, but i'd have to dig up one of the many interviews between ANet Heads and some gaming site...
I wouldn't doubt if you searched it on Riverside Inn, you could probably find something on the servers never closing.
And it is a definite on Guild Wars 2. ANet has stated that Eye of the North is a small preview to GW2. Whatever you put into your Hall of Monuments will be viewable by a character in Guild Wars 2.
So, basically, GW2 is a known fact by almost all of the GW community. :]

Without sounding mean or anything, but this information is all over the net. Do you really need to be here asking all your questions one at a time?
It is highly unlikely that they will add any more updates once Guild Wars 2 is out as the vast majority of the player base would have moved there instead.
EDIT - Here you go, loads of useful Guild Wars 2 Information

Thats generally how things work. Think Diablo versus Diablo 2.
And OP, man there is info on this all over the web. As for GW1, there is no answer to your first question. Down the line costs might exceed benefit, and they will shut down the servers. No server lasts forever, especially MMO servers. How long they will last will depend on marketability. If they shut down the servers, I have a funny feeling they woud develop a way for us to continue in SP or third party servers since the system seems like it could be modified to do that. Thats my bet on the situation. GW2 will most likely attact enough of the original GW players that it will become illogical to provide direct support for anymore.

Zacky, I wouldn't worry too much about it; it will be quite awhile before GW2 is out anyway. But I have had the same concerns as you, and have been reassured that we will be able to keep playing as long s there are players like us (and I know there are many) who want to play. In the meantime: enjoy the game !!!

Sometimes the #2 version of the game changes too much from #1 and too much to being like a competitor's game, that #2 fails. I saw this on my last online game.
Dungeon Seige was very popular for 6+ years. They released #2 in the style of Diablo 2. Characters could not be transfered. DS allowed up to 8 players per instance, no matter connection type. DS2 limited instance party size based on type of internet connection you had. Dialup = party of 2. DSL = party of 4. Cable = party of 8. Instead of being able to build skills in all classes at the same time, i.e. melee, ranged, and caster, they went to splitting experience like D2, i.e. 1 handed or 2 handed, PBAoE, etc.
People's reaction: If I wanted to play D2, I wouldn't have bought DS2. DS1 server now down. DS2 server not too populated. Many now do WoW, GW, and Runescape.
As long as there is a server for GW and some people to occasionally play with, I will long on from time to time.
