Playing the Same Character Anywere Else?
TwinRaven
A funny thing happened to me while I was busy taking a little break from Guild Wars...I was still playing the same character!!! I realized that I have been playing the same character since before I even heard of Guild Wars...Even back in the day of PnP role-playing, I always played a ranger of some sort.
From Morrowind, Oblivion, Perfect World, Shaiya...always the same: an archer/ranger, typically female. Sometimes I find I even try to manifest this character in other games, favoring bows when I can. Even in Bioshock, I HAD to use the crossbow as my favored weapon. I loved Theif I - III. I even did it in (don't tell anyone) Maple Story. When I first started Guild Wars, my first character...Ranger/Monk.
So, I'm sure there are a few of us out there who have dabbled with something else from time to time, but always return to the same style of play. How many of you seem to ALWAYS gravitate back to the same character type? Warrior, caster and whatnot...And...Is it because you like the way those characters look, their role or do you really want to be Legolas, Sir Gallahad, Merlin, Robin Hood, The Gray Mouser, LeeeeeeeeeRoy Jeeeeeeenkiiiins!!! Thor, Roscoe P. Coaltrain, and the like? How many have even gone so far as to use the same name?

I get tired of playing the same stuff over and over. If I ever find myself in a rut, I'll make something at random, even using dice to help me pick something at random if I have to!
Antheus
I like my R/N toucher Jedi in SWG.
Bryant Again
My favorite characters in RPGs have always been a warrior or fighter of some sort, with WoW being the only exception (Warlock and Mage ftw.)

Ranger is my only PvE character, been through all the campaigns and bonus missions and stuff, he is totally pimp. Also play core ranger in GvG, so I dunno, ranger is just meh thing.

I guess I'm one who's either versatile or gets boring of stuff easily. One thing remains; I'm an offensive-type of player. I want to deal damage. Support and backliners are somewhat boring to me as I NEED ACTION!
So I play whatever as long as I'm in the frontline or an offensive midliner. Necro in GW and D2, rest have been anything that does either good damage or is close-combat.

Always a healer. Always female. Always by the name of Aeris.
Yeah... That's not based on anything in particular...
I think.
I always like the support characters. Staying in the back and buffing the head-strong-type. Good stuff.

I tend to stay with my favourite type in general, the elementalist/mage type guy/girl, though my main in GW is a Warrior, just because they seemed fun to try out, and I never really got bored.
Nadia Roark
My warrior, Konrad Althalon, is borne from an old General of mine from a game called NationStates, which I Moderate. My Male Monk (who I never use anymore), Khaled Sudani, is a subordinate of Althalon's in the same universe. Same with Sen Dabernasi (Dervish), Ezr Sergoyan (Paragon), and Narotama Suharto (Ritualist). Last time I wrote anything for NS, I brought my GW main (the one for which this account is named--Nadia Roark) over into that universe to return the favor, in a wierd sort of way.
As I envision them, few if any of these characters bear any similarities to their NationStates bretheren with the possible exception of Roark, although she doesn't take her likeness from my GW character. Instead I borrowed the image of Riza Hawkeye from Full Metal Alchemist to depict her in NationStates. For some reason the idea of using a GW screenshot as her avatar there didn't sit right with me.

I always seem to gravitate to rangers, assassins, and other roguish characters. I usually end up making casters and melee people but I love starting out with finesse characters. I like the variety within their professions (typically).
I also name any assassin Kartok the Deadly, a homage to my assassin of the same name back when I played SB.

I had A Necro, Druid, and Assassin in d2.
I have a Warrior and Ranger in GW.
Nope.

It's always been the ranged/stealthy/thief type thing for me. I so wanted assassins in GW to be good, but they landed up being high DPS warriors with low AL. No imagination at all....
So Ranger it is
So Ranger it is
Nadia Roark
To be fair, GW isn't a game that lends itself to "stealthy theif types." Until there's an way to turn yourself invisible and loot mobs without killing them, I fear there will be a distinct lack of traditional sneak-around type characters in this game.
Avatar Exico
hehe Every other PvE game I play always start out with Warrior idk why, Maybe like to be on Front Lines kicking of A**. In Oblivion I made my Character to be full tanker.
UnKn0wN415
all MMORPG my first char has always been a range type class followed by magic user...
no surprised that Ranger was my first class...

I usually play support characters, never primary healers or damage dealers.
Guild Wars - Monk, Ritualist, Mesmer, Paragon
Diablo 2 - Druid, Necro, Paladin
Ragnarok Online - Priest (advanced Monk), Alchemist (a half-warrior, half-mage using potions and a ,,pet'' to fight and support team), Sage (Mesmer/Elementalist), Bard (Paragon/Ranger).

i love my assassin type characters....but i will play anything.......
i have a lot of fun playing offensive but support/healing gives me more satisfaction

strcpy
To a large extent, yes. She doesn't have a set name that goes from game to game (some people do that) but in my mind it is the same character. Always some type of wizarding class (elementalist in GW's case) and I always have one character that represents me, no set class on it I just try and get one that looks like me (in this case on of the tyrian warrior models looks kinda like me, just need to make him a little fatter).
I also usually pick some type of theme for character names. In GW all the females are "Isis" and usually contain a color: "Isis the Red", "Isis the Blue", "Isis the Green", etc. The only exceptions are the above mentioned elementalist (that character always gets a name from one of the books I like to read) and the character that represents me either gets named Brian (my name) or strcpy (what I normally try for on forums).

All my characters in the past have usually been mages of some sort, sometimes battlemages(or anything that requires technique, never hack/slashers). My first DnD Character was a Gnome Illusionist.
I think I favour the more intelligent classes. Even though your average ele has the iq of a bar stool...

Well my main character is a ranger in GW. And i've had a similar theme through the other rpgs/mmo's i've played. From Baldurs Gate, icewind dale, morrowind to UO always favoured the bow over a sword.
Actually thinking about Baldurs gate makes me want to play it again. Man i loved those games!

Death/Necromantic magic caster.
In Diablo 2 and Guild Wars this is the Necromancer. In Star War: Knights of the Old Republic 2, this is the Sith Lord. In DnD, this is the Wizard, focused on the Necromancy school of magic. Basically I like playing as the true power

I've always gone for a caster type class. It was only in GW, with the Mesmer class, that I really found the 'niche' class that I've always been looking for in RPGs.
Toutatis
I've been working with the same "character" for years and across many different RPGs. The profession and role within the team may have changed from game to game, but the general appearance and personality traits have stayed more or less the same.

I always opt for a melee class. Always.

Sins are nice, I could never find myself having a good time with a warrior though - a lot of the time it seems like no challenge for me though guild wars seems to balance it out and it's actually a semi-enjoyable class.
vixro
I've always loved to cast magic. First character was a monk and second was an elementist.
mrvrod
Almost always a frontline character, almost always a female. My first character in GW was a warrior/mage (until I figured out that combo doesn't really work well in GW). My warrior females are always named Jade or a very close derivative (Jada).
I have 8 toons in GW and each is a different primary, but I keep going back to my warrior. Jada is the toon with the pimped out HoM, and it's her bloodline that will continue in GW2.

I've generally favored the role of a caster. Diablo 2 got me hooked on the Necromancer role and I've stuck with that since.
Chrono Re delle Ere
I also always use to play the same class in all role playing games I play. Maybe because you just feel more comfortable with the same thing :P

Varies by the incentives the game sets up. I've played a lot of heals in GW and I NEVER play that. But healing is relatively overpowered in this game; it has to be, due to the effort to create lengthy, tactical PvP combat. Playing Ele/Necro can be fun, but not as much so as in other games' PvE. (They're both interesting in PvP.)
In Oblivion I sneak up on things and then hack them into bits, because sneaking is overpowered (and chameleon is cheats).
In KOTOR I ran a single-saber Guardian, because defense was imba. I also ran a Force Storm character because going Emperor on everything in sight is fun.
In Baldur's Gate and NWN I ran a Sorcerer, because tactical flexibility is win and blowing up everything in sight is fun.
In Diablo and Diablo 2 I ran the Sorcs, because teleport is a massive time saver. Also, click-spamming Chain Lightning and Nova is fun.

I prefer rangers/archers/beastmasters.
Basically if it has a bow and be a beastmaster, I'm content.

I tend to find certain play styles are more fun for certain games. In GW I have played all the classes but generally find the warriors to be best suited for me when I am leading a party and casters best when I let others take on the role.
Many of the games I've played haven't had the freedom of choice that GW has so your kinda locked into what ever style of char the game allows you.

Characters are alike from Diablo LOD.

Uh, guys...
I don't think the OP is asking "what kind of characters you usually play," I'm pretty sure he's asking if you've used the same characters in other places. Pretty much everyone is saying "yeah I play mages," or "I play warriors" or whatever else--guys: those aren't characters, they're character types!

Horseman Of War
My "horseman of war" name was first used in City of Heroes... for the whole 3 days I played that game.... not exactly original, but it is mine.

Of course I am!
If the game was a class or profession or skill that can Nuke, Charr, Burn, Consume and Ter to pieces enemies with skills that go 'BOOM'. That's the character I will make.

I didn't really think "what kind of character do you play" made for a very interesting topic, so I assumed (silly me) that the OP wasn't looking for the banal conversation we ended up with. Running the same characters from game to game is a more interesting phenomenon to me than running the same "types." I think it's a pretty well-known fact that most people have gameplay preferences, and the game in question doesn't usually dictate them (meaning it stays the same from game to game). I assumed he was asking about something that was actually halfway interesting. Guess I was wrong.
