Good Evening all,

I will get straight to the point, in the last few days i have been in contact with a GM in NC Soft about the recent hash up of Anet resulting in the final top 100 in the Rollerbeetle Racing event. Specifically speaking the way the top 100 was finnaly layed out and how if possible they should fix up the list so the people that should be in the top 100 should finnaly be able claim there prize. (i freely admit i am also doing this for my own personal reasons since i only missed out on the top 100 by 0.500 or so as have several people i know, assuming they got rid of the multiple time entries i would have been in there to

Firstly i want to say that i have absolutely nothing against the people that got into the top 100, if anything i want to congratulate them for getting there. Secondly, its not there fault that they took up multiple places which places the blame tottaly on Anets doorway, of which they had 1 whole year to fix. I am sorry there are no excuses here, Anet had plenty of time to fix this small issue but they didnt and a lot of people, about 40 odd missed out on the mini prize.

The GM i spoke to after a few days finnaly forwarded my information to the guild wars development team and hopefully something would be sorted out sooner rather then later. I asked the GM that they should take a look at the logs for the last 1-2 hours for the top times, since fixing the top 100 table will take some time, if they look at the logs they can award the prizes by informing the players accordingly.

Wether or not anything happens because of this intervention, i am not to sure but this is the first time i have complained about anything about or regarding GW or Anet in 2 years or so and i have to admit the responses i got from them were promising if not informative.

If anyone else has any further ideas, i can pass on as a suggestion to the person i am speaking to in NC Soft, feel free to let me know

certainly could have been avoided, same problem as least year.
obviously the leaderboard should show 1 entry per person.

hopefully those who missed out will be properly rewarded.

I completely agree with OP that because of Anet's scripting error that some people are able to get multiple entries in the top 100 and OP was left out by a slim chance.

Same goes for challenges. A page filled only with one name discourages other to play and make them think that they cheat of found a magic build and something like that and some people may even bother them with whispers.

On entry, the highest one, is enough.

I would also had the skills disabled until the first checkpoint, to prevent the firsts knockdowns at the very start.
In other PvP areas players start far from each other and have time to prepare. Here they don't.

As i said this isint just for myself its for all the people that missed out on tiniest of margins to get the little fellow of the minipet prize. Yes i am also doing this for myself but if this works out it will also benefit the people who have got the same issue.

Agree with the OP, /signed whatever has to be done. Only one unique name per score listing on "monthly" or "quarterly". It's like awarding first second and third place to the same person, that just doesn't happen in any other type of event.

It should show your highest score and that is it. Especially since you can only win one prize. This would be fair for everyone who only missed the top 100 because of repeat names.

tbh, how can you be positively sure that you would have been in the top 100, im sure there are more than a few other people that were that close or closer than you.

Your right i cant be 100% sure about that mate, but this was an honest mistake by Anet but at least the people who should have been in there should recieve there prize after going through all that trouble to get into the top 100 because they deserve it.

I'm not sure, but if it was awarded to 100 unique players and I was still not on the list I wouldn't care as much anymore. It would suck, but at least it would be fair.

Excellent! To the OP: Hey, I just barely missed out on the top 100 list by around .5 seconds myself. I have contacted several people at Anet and Ncsoft several times and have yet to receive single reply (except from the NCsoft support team, but they said they aren't involved in those kinda things). Could you please post here, or pm me the contact information of the person you have been talking to? It would be GREATLY appreciated, this whole thing has been absurdly frustrating and it's even worse to not get a reply back.

Have you not been paying attention at all? The problem is that multiple people were allowed into the top 100 therefore knocking out people that deserve the prize. The top 100 "racers" are supposed to get a prize. Meaning 100 prizes should have been given out, not 58. For example, If I run a race and come in first, is it fair to claim second? Third? Fifth? Thirtieth? and so on just because my time was faster then the true holders of those positions? No, obviously that's absurd, well that's what happened here. And to clarify, I don't blame the racers. They did nothing but win and that's fine. But Anet had a full year to fix this stupid problem and they did nothing, thus screwing a good chunk of people that devoted their weekend to this, out of a prize that they earned based on the very wording that Anet themselves wrote in the game. "Top 100 RACERS" will receive a prize...

I don't believe that anything should be done this year. For a start there is the precedent that everyone knew about last year, and despite the QQing, people knew this was going to be repeated. Add in what someone else has already mentioned - what about the 30 from 1st year.

Anet will only make more of a hash of it it they try to be selectively reptrospective, so I am hoping this is a bad joke. The OP's cause sounds just and noble, but the element where they admit that they are likley to benefit from the outcome makes me view it more as self interest than a moral crusade.

PS - no - I don't have a mini roller beetle, so I have no self interest in keeping them exclusive (just to declare I have no pecunary interest in the outcome

).

But of course it's partly motivated by self interest, if you won a valuable prize but got screwed out of it because of a stupid reason, wouldn't you fight for it? But also it's, for me anyway, about the fact that Anet themselves said the top 100 racers would receive a prize, not the top 100 scores, and they should have to honor that.

But i already freely admitted that i have self intrest in this as well but i would like Anet to sort this little issue out for everyone and if that includes last years winners that would be a bonus to, i appreciate the constructive criticism though

Basically, your QQ'ing for something to be fixed, that has been known and aknowlaged by Anet, If they were going to fix it, they would have already. Considering what happened last year, i dont belive they will fix it, and it will probly be the same at next years event.

You are aware that guessing all but one number in the lottery still gives quite a sum of money, right? Definately not as much but still very noteable.

However, the point still remains that it should have been Top 100 Unique Accounts that recieved prizes in the first place. I doubt many if any will revieve a mini at all that didn't make it the first time, but I'm glad someone tried to sort it out with ANet. GL to those that were close.

Some of the people that "won" the prizes didn't even actually do the race themselves.

An ex-guildmate that is really, really good (he won 2 this year and 2 last year on his/his wife's accounts) also logged in on 4 other guildmate's second and third accounts to win them beetles, too. All this for a 50/50 split on an undedicated sale (or all the gold if they dedicated it and then sold). That'd be 7 beetles he won this year on various accounts (5 being not his).

I didn't race, but if I placed #101-105, I'd be slightly pissed...NOT because he achieved the scores posted but because the ones that got the pet couldn't even come close to top 100 on their own. Whether it is allowable to do so, or not, I'm not sure...but it's certainly not fair to those that would have won the prize had this not occured...

Not at all...at least he placed those scores on one account and won one pet. Last year, 2 people dominated and had over half the scores for the most part, if I remember correctly. Anet had a year to change the way the top 100 would be, but failed to do so.

Well no, but that's because I'm not a jerk. That aside, the problem shouldn't even be there. Anet screwed up horribly and had a year to fix it and they still didn't do anything. Inexcusable

Move on? On to what? GW2? IF they cant fix obviouse stuff in GW1 how am I supposed to believe GW2 will be better? I dont know but I do know that I wont be buying the game when it hits the shelves, Ill wait and see what people say. Why? Because the more they keep working on this game with updates the more I see they dont get it, and im starting to think that this games greatness was just a fluke. If it wasnt a fluke theyd be updating and making things better., not going backwards or not going forward at all. Not fixing the beetle racings is not going forward, making npc's dissapear after events are finished is going backwards. How can they not see the popularity of these kinds of events that they dont bother fixing stuff like beetle racing or lunar token npc's? If they cant see the obviouse then maybe they just got lucky. CAnt be good either way. I mean an event like beetleracing thats giving out a prize thats worhty 10000's of ectos youd think they'd be able to get it right, but they didnt...

Anet should quit while its ahead, id be more accepting of the fact that they stopped working on this game and it is what it is then when they keep updating it and dont fix the obviouse or even take a few steps back. That bad publicity.

I didnt even go beetleracing (slow computer, slow connections....horrible lagg. why bother).

but I do concur with the OP.
the awards should be handed out to the top 100 accounts....not just those that got into the top 100....since people somehow were allowed to have multiple placings (thats just not right---your top score should knock out your previous ones) they are getting only one award....but why not award the top 100 unique accounts???? That makes much more sense---ah nevermind, its anet were are talking about.

(anet has found yet another way to keep the rich rich--and keep the minipet market going with high end minis....thats all they care about now).

I was never anywhere close to the top 100, but I still support the OP, because I believe it would be the right thing to do and it would be fair.

All these posts of supporters, why not have a poll in the suggestion forums on whether or not the top 100 UNIQUE racers should get a minipet or not? THen we can clarify more than 40 posts and see what the majority feel.

As a top 100 scorer who held a single place, I wish you best of luck. If you do manage to get them to award those extra 40+ beetles, that's just more people who get a fun reward.

Even if they ultimately don't give out the missing beetles this year, hopefully enough pestering will get them to fix it before next year roles around.

I appreciate the posts of support so far, as someone mentioned above if we get enough people to keep this going them maybe Anet might be tempted to oh i dont know actually fix something that they so obviously left unattended for 1 whole year.

Just for a second forget about the fact that the you get a reward for being in the top 100. I would be actually be amazed if they actually FIX something that would actually benefit people who should have been in the top 100. Heaven forbid something a fix occurs to correct such an obvious problem for the players, lest we all go into collective apoplexy.

According to Gaile from last year's event, they didn't have logs of people who weren't in the top 100, which was why the couldn't fix the problem last year. I guess we can hope she was misinformed?

When there was that duping thing they even claimed being able to find out an item's origin. I can't really believe that they now haven't saved these scores.

The programming is slightly different I think. Because so many people are clocking in high scores, the programmers probably only thought to save the highest 100 scores. In order to create an item, though, it's like a new object has to be instantiated. This object will always have an "original" address, and maybe they thought to tag an address along with the person too. You can't do a that for rollerbeetles because they probably merely have an array of 100 beetlers... anything out of that will not get put into the array. That's my theory of how they did it based on what Gaile said, but I could be wrong. Because if they had happened to make an array of like 300 beetlers, then it would make it really easy to just alter a couple lines of code to hand out the prizes... however, it doesn't seem to be the case or Gaile would've already done it last year.

According to gaile not even a single piece of gold that goes through one player and to another that they arent aware of, i cannot believe that if they have that much observation over 1 piece of gold that they dont have logs to confirm the top 100 top times.

And lets face it Gaile has been wrong before, need i remind people of the polar bear hash up? To be honest i take everything that a gw representative say with a pinch of salt these days.
