GW2 beta?
Siirius Black
Sorry if there's a tread somewhere, did not find anythig
But I just saw a video showing the interview of someone at ncsoft about the new releases. In the video, they mentioned that a Guild Wars 2 beta is planned for the second part of this year.
Anyone knows anything about it?

Most likely beta will be open first to hardcore people and under NDA and then much later general polulation.
Someone with KOABD (6) is unlikely to badmouth anet (oh wait, who am i kidding) ... and even thou, i not like they are gonna complain when they got priviledge reserved to few and NDA signed.
Plus it fits with anets marketing pilicy: Create hype and hope hype sells game.

So how do you get into beta, do you sign up, or do you have to be ''Invited''?
HayesA
Usually compannys have open "sign ups" where you post your resume on how many Betas you've done, etc etc. And they pick the best of the best. Though knowing Anet, it will probably be invite only. The first betas might just be "professional game testers" only, the Beta 2 will be invite some of the most hard core GW players.

You guys realize that "they don't tell us anything" and "hype" are mutually exclusive, right?
There'll be hype all right, but not until the game is perhaps 3-4 months from release. THEN we'll start seeing interviews, videos, screenshots, competitions, customized motif-painted Alienware computers, and public beta.
Like someone else said: Halo 3. That's what hype looks like.

GW2 needs more time to be a good game, why a beta so soon? I don't get it. ArenaNet is making me think GW2 is just a revamped version of the canceled GW1 campaign, I don't want that, I want a game with the features of WoW and GW in one game (the perfect game)

I'ts not soon for a beta; beta can stay on for many months , after the beta ends up they will take other 4-6 months to finish the game and change things and then they will publish it. Without counting that they were working already on gw2 differente months before the eotn preview.

Kind of off topic... but Gmail has had the "Beta" under their logo for... a looooong time, so it doesn't seem like the Summer of this year, or shortly after, would be too short of a time to introduce the beta. I'm guessing it will be invite for the first part... which I doubt I'll get in, even though I've been playing for ~32 months
Hopefully I'll be able to jump in on the sign-up version, if there is any.

1. They are most likely currently in Alpha testing phase which is just developers and professional game testers. A lot of stuff will change in this phase.
2. The beta scheduled for this year is most likely a closed beta for higher ups in the community and knowing anet probably something like Fileplanet subscribers or something of that sort.
3.I would predict the first open beta will be next year probably in the first quarter.

Personally i think it would be good to have random selection for the first half of the beta (Say with certain rules like, have to have been playing at least 24 months / have 3k hours in game etc) as then theyd get the average joes (and janes) and would get a better approximation of how the game is going- without having newbie players joining just to play while the game is free and not knowing enough general gw playmanship.
This way you'd be more likely to get adventurer / maper gamer types, historian /loremaster gamer types, Treasure hunter types, Pvp types, Role Play types, Lone rangers etc etc -it would be a slice of the community as it is now, vast and interesting :P

As far as the GW2 betaness goes, I think I remember reading that GW isn't designed for only hardcore gamers, is that right? Isn't it supposed to be for both hardcore and casual? If that's true, wouldn't they want a better... um, "demographic" I guess, than they'd get if they just used the hardcore players?
And I'm sure I remember reading that ANet develops on laptops, so probably they won't limit the GW2 beta to only people with the most super-duper gaming rigs. Which is good news for me.

I really want to get in on the beta, also. I played GW1 beta, you think that has any sway on things?
