Have I hit a wall?
TPike
Hope I'm posting in the right place.
I'm a new player.
I've been trying to use my own built skill bars experimenting with different skills.
I've gotten a Nightfall character up to level 20 and I'm currently doing the Sunspear sanctuary missions etc.
Venat cemetery has been a nightmare for me. Tried to solo it a couple times - Pwnt. Tried it yesterday with a PUG two people quit almost right away. The one player left was pretty good and we knocked out 3/8 posts before getting killed.
Anyway I can't find anymore missions. I have the save the estate one that consists of 3-4 missions but I could only find an NPC to give me one - missing daughter.
I'll check wiki when I get home but am I stuck until I get past the cemetery?
Dude I played with yesterday laughed when he saw my skills and was like WTF is THAT build. I offered to change anything but he said no play whatever you want.
Character is an Elementalist/Necromancer.
My first two Skills are Life Syphon & Necro something (Sunspear skill foe suffers -70 if under a hex) .
That usually hits pretty hard then my next 4 skills I use as combos of elem skills ( ie hit 3 then 4 in combo and 5 -6 the same) then my last two are Animate bone minion & Animate jagged horror.
Is this a decent startegy or do I just /fail?
Should I just keep playing the mission over & over with henchies til I can beat it?
I don't mind constructive critisism, just don't totally bury me.
Thanks,
BTW -> I've seen someone on here with a good rep that offers to run the cemetery for 6K. Would hiring someone like this help me or would I just be "wimping out" or whatever. Is the hiring of runners an accepted practice or do you feel people that use those services are cheating themselves?

first off your an ele....not a nec so cut the necro skills IMO...
2nd nec isnt a good 2nd for ele IMO, better with /monk or something (this can be changed shortly so no worrys)
best advice is to run a fire ele bar: rodgorts invocation, savannah heat, glowing gaze, fire attunement, liquid flame, glyph of lesser energy (skills like that) - if you can get hold of those your onto a winner in PvE
the reason you were lol'd at was because of the mass necro skills you had - use the ele SS skill really good skill - then put in the best fire or air magic you have and you can easily h/h all NF

I suggest you to give a look at www.pvxwiki.com to start using some good builds for general pve. The thing is that as you are an ele, you don't really want to use minions or blood spells; furthermore you use elementalist skills, blood skills, death magic skills; this will shatter your attribute points lowering your output damage; simply go pure ele (like all fire magic + energy storage) and start using some aoe /spike builds (area of damage / high dmg input on a single target). Hope I could help you!

Thanks.
I'm gonna miss my minons, I just thought they were so cool.
I think I'm going to have to go find some skill trainers because alot of skills Chrono mentioned I don't have.
I've been focusing on water only because I have a gold whalekin rod that's powerful and has max + energy storage plus I can carry another energy icon in my off hand.

Sorry didn't understand this.
You mean because I'm "wasting" points in things like blood magic & death magic?
I'm scrapping the necro skills as soon as I get home & looking for more fire skills.

That's basically it. The points in necro atts are fueling skills that are bad for an ele when they could be pumping up your fire attribute.

Ok, I'm home and have a chance to consult wiki.
Even my cat sees the problem now.
A lot of builds are based on skills I can't get within Nighfall & Factions.

If you're looking for a Nightfall-only build, try this...
Immolate
Glowing Gaze
Meteor
Firestorm
Fire Attunement
Aura of Restoration
Intensity
Sunspear Rebirth Signet
Usage: Upkeep Fire Attunement, AoR and Intensity as much as possible. Use Meteor on a clump of enemies (preferably casters) closely followed by Firestorm. Then spam Immolate and Glowing Gaze for consistent damage and energy boost. If necessary, recast Meteor/Firestorm. Use the Sunspear Res Sig when needed.
I play Elementalist and this would be a workable build. Not optimal by any definition of the word, but workable. No Elite skills either. When you get the opportunity, cap Searing Flames and/or Savannah Heat. They're the bomb as far as Nightfall elites go... I recommend swapping out Firestorm for Savannah Heat.

Since you don't have proph, you can't acess some of the better skills such as Rodgort or MS. I think that the your best bets you could use would be the SF (Searing Flames) SH (Savannah Heat) or AP (assassins promise) builds on Pvxwiki (the link that Chrono posted.

I put all points into fire & energy.
Used Aura of restoration and intensity the rest all fire ( storm, liq flame etc )
I only eliminated 4 of 12 posts but really just walked through but avoided garrison.
It was a breeze. I'll go for the bonus later.

Let's just put it this way if you hire a runner you'll keep running the type of build you do now, but if you just want to get it done and move on then a runner is for you. If you bought the game to play it all you need is a couple guild members that can help you out and suggest what's good to use and what isn't.
Now the mission, the reason you can't beat it is because of the build you use on yourself and probably your heroes. As an ele your main attribute is energy management, the skills from this attribute are a must on any eles skill bar. Some skills you should have are: Glyph of lesser energy and aura of restoration. And because you are an ele stick to ele skills, at first i'd have all of my skills be ele skills (try and keep them from the same element), then as you learn more about the game and the skills in it you can add a couple from another class, but again don't over do it.
Basically use 2 attributes now, and later maybe 3 if you feel like trying out some skills.
