I've been working my way through Elona in HM and have gotten stuck on this one. Not sure if it is a team build issue or technique issue.
I am a Sin and have PainInverter, LtOfDeld, PwrSpike and Ursan.
Heros have been:
Koss with Charge insead of D-Slash for the run to the first set of stairs.
Vek as SF nuker, and
Livia as MM
Hench: Mhenlo, Kihm, Herta and Cynn.
Although I have done it, and gotten to stage where all the Margs on the initial plaza are down, and I am only dealing with the spawn patrols, I have a hard time just getting past the initial Marg group just at the foot of the first stair.
Not sure if it is a timing issue, flagging issue, or what, but my goal is to only kill the Harb at the top of the first stair, then pull the groups near the bottom of each of the 2nd staircases, leaving the Harb there alive, then park the team on the carpet brigde, finish off the remaining Margs on the far plaza, then pull the ones on each staircase and kill them, so on thing left will be the spawing mobs, which I want to try to keep to the smallest size, so planning to only kill the Harb #3 and the 2 bonus Harbs before the Harb of NF.
At least that is what I did in NM. Seemed to work fine.
But I am still having the big problems just getting past that initial fight, at least most times.
Any tips would sure be appreciated. I am trying to do this without consumables, but am getting more and more tempted. Thanks.

Sabway is very nice. You might even be able to afford 2 minion bombers instead of just one. make sure the only time you fight is immediately after you take down a spawned mob. And when going up the stairs don't try to take them out in one go. Just a few at a time.

H/H won't do anything but move while they're flagged, so the NM strategy is a bit harder in HM - they won't heal, prot or do anything that stops a quick harb / marg gank on one of the party. I basically couldn't skip both of the first 2 harbs with H/H in HM - I did however managed to skip just the first, breaking aggro from it, then luring and killing the second, then killing the group of margs, and killing the top harbringer at around the same time as the first margonite timed patrol arrived. The rest of the mission was pretty easy for me.
A tip for later - there is a wiki hint to bring the harbringer of nightfall down to 1/3 health before doing the bonus, then you can kill one bonus harbringer, then THE HARBRINGER AT THE BOTTOM OF THE SECOND BONUS STAIRS (so you get a light of seborhin nice and close), then quickly gank the second bonus harbringer, and grab a light and run for the last hit on the harbringer of nightfall. This is good advice - it worked a treat for me.
I went with Koss as dslash, and 2 MMs as heroes. Didn't bother with a party speed boost - it really isn't necessary. I took storm djinn's haste on myself for running lights.

Thanks. Those were just the tips I needed.
Taking out the Harb at the bottom of the first stairs and letting the team wail on the Margs there was just the tactic I needed. The slightly larger sized spawn patrols were manageable with the revised team skills.
And without trying to shoehorn a team run skill onto Koss's bar let me put him back to D-slash, which also helped.
After that, it really was a cake-walk. And I liked the tip about going ahead and, near the end, taking out one of the Harbs in the rift between plazas to have a shorter run to the nearest Light.
I went ahead and took both bonus stairway Harbs down while the team was parked on the carpet bridge taking care of the spawns, and then dropped one of the rift Harbs, got his Light and started in on the Harb of NF. He pulled to the team, and I was able to drop another light on him before the next spawn and the got the third light on to him just as the next spawn had started to engage. Cutscene!
I ended up using Koss with an erzatz D-Slash bar, Livia as MM, and M of Whisperers as an SS, with the two monk hench plus Herta and Odurra. So yea, sort of a modified Sabway, with Koss subbing for the N/Rit Healer. Used the Ursan running skill for Light running, which helped a bit, but probably wasn't necessary.
Many thanks.

Wouldn't recommend doing this alone unless you are happy with consumables + Ursan.
Take a friend who runs sabway, allow him to take care of spawns, while you run for lights and dish out the bringers.

Patience is really the key here, you have to be able to defeat a group and not try to get overly greedy on what you think you can do because of the patrols

Emphasis on this. If you didn't kill the patrol quick enough, don't aggro a stationary group.

When I did this I was: D-Slash spam with SY!, and whirlwind attack (make MoW cast splinter weap on you and watch the numbers fly )
Heroes:
Koss as D-Slash spam
Olias as MM Bomber
MoW as N/rt resto healer
Hench: Both monks, Herta (eath ele) and the paragon
Breezed through the mission easily in HM, even forgot to turn on my r8 LB Margo groups are really very weak, even in HM

Read wiki. Go for the least amount off kills strategy. Dont kill the second harbinger at the bottom of the stair, but the third at the top of the stairs. Flag your group on the spawn. And take a running skill so you have killed the third harbinger by the time your group reaches the top of the stairs. Bodyblock the margo spawn group and fight like hell. Next set your team on fight. The marg spawns will go straight for them. test your group by standing back and letting them singlehandedly kill a spawn group. If they mange your set for succes. Pull margo groups only afther killing a spawn group. Melee do wel in this mission. Bring koss with executioners strike and devona who has charge. Minions tend to pull to many groups. When going for the carpet take the right side. If you hug the wall you can pass the harbinger without agroing him. If you agro a harbinger by accident near your team at any time set them on avoid fighting and run like hell or he will kill them off. Once on the carpet set your party to fight and carefully pull all margo groups and dispatch them. Then leave them behind and run all the way down to the npc and get a light. Drop it near your team and repeat this 4x. Get the fifth light from the 3rd harbinger you killed. Now head for the harbinger of nightfall and drop a light next to him and run. Rinse and repeat until his health is down to 1/3. Remember once again to set your group on avoid fight and keep the harbinger away from them or he will whipe them out. Be carefull timing your actions to the margo spawn group. Once the boss is down to 2/3. Quickly kill both harbingers on the stairs and kill the harbinger boss before a new margo group spawns. Timing is crucial!
The key to succes is keeping the group of margo spawns down to 4 by killing the harbingers simultaniously at the end!
I did this mission with a full h/h team on my first try. I just took my time.
