Does this game have Replay Value?

Yeah, so i got Nightfall coupla days ago, i made an elementalist/monk. Im a noob at lvl 6. Up to now, it has not been anything good, well, atleast i dont think. I played other mmorpgs, and they seem to be ok, and for the lvl 20 limit? WTF?

All in all, is this an mmorpg which i can really get into?

Short answer: yes. I've been playing for about 32 months on and off. Yes, sometimes you will get bored or frustrated.... but just take a break for a week or whatever, and dive right back in.

This game is not all about "zomG!!1 m4x LVlzz!!" It's more about how you use your skills to fit whatever situation you are in. Also for some people, they very much enjoy constant grinding to get titles, massive amounts of gold, or... ? something else?

Have fun. Also you can make more than one character... and change the secondary profession of your already established "E/Mo" to be be E/W, E/Me... anything you want.

people have been replaying it for 32 months. the level 20 cap is good because you don't start really playing until you are lvl 20. 1-20 is just the learning curve.

That must be because you think GW is an mmorpg.
It is not.

Then what is it? :S

It's a CORPG.
You don't have to kill x type of monsters for hours to get a lvl and change your type of monsters to get another lvl etc.
L33t high-costing items are just as efficient as collectors (=free) items.
And lvl 20 is the true beggining of the game. Before that, it's just a tutorial.

EDIT : oh and there's actually a story which involves something more than "snakes ate my cake! plz kill 35 snakes for me!"

/agree with all stated above. the game only really starts getting good when you hit lvl 20. nightfall isn't too nice to beginners anyways, you have to grind to continue (which sucks). Factions lets you lvl faster, but you have a "weaker" lvl 20 than the other two campaigns, IMO...but I digress. try to join some pickup groups, do the missions whenever you can (tons of exp) and keep plugging away. it picks up, trust me

and btw, i have been lvl 20 for a while now, and just beat factions/proph, and there is still a ton of stuff i need to do in those. the game doesn't end once you beat them, they just get better

The quests are awesome compared to most games of similar genre. Nightfall isn't the campaign to start the Guild Wars Series with.

Factions is the least new player friendly. But Guild Wars Prophecies it has a much slower pace so it gives you more time to learn. Factions is really really fast. Nightfall is fast but not as fast and Guild Wars is the slowest.

Guild Wars (All the gw games) are different from the games you have been playing. Very different. Everyone has different tastes and opinions.

it has amazing replay value as long as you enjoy the game play. some people like brainless grinding all day but guild wars takes something different thats something is a brain. you need to think what skill will do what here how can i form a good team and so on.

I tend to agree. At level 6 (which can be done in a matter of hours) you've hardly even started. Granted, nightfall isn't the best game to start with but that's what you've got. I've only been playing for just over a year, maybe a year and a half now. I've played other mmorpgs that were more traditional (ie, pay $15 a month and grind so you're level 52 and can gank the level 30 noobs LOL QQ moar noobs! watch my mad ebay skillz!)

GW is very different from that. Quite frankly, you're not going to get anyone on these boards that thinks GW is lame and hates it.. because this is the GW boards. It's probably not a game for everyone. It may not be the game for you. But, at level 6, you've not yet played enough to really see what the game is like. Play to level 20. It really doesn't take too long. It'll require you to do a bunch of quests and several missions. If you still hate it by then, oh well you gave it a fair shot. But you may find as you progress you get more appreciation for the game, which really does start at level 20.

gotta agree with this, Anet capped the lvls at 20, semi-capped the customization of weaps and armor, but skills is where you can go nuts. it's a nice change of pace from the "grind-until-I-lvl-and-get-more-powerful-skillz" genre of gaming. two people could go against each other with the exact same skillset, armor, etc and one person could pwn, if they know how and when to use the skills and the other doesn't

Most of the people on these boards, including myself, really love this game. I've been playing 2 1/2 years, usually a minimum of 3-4 hours a day, and rarely ever get bored with it. On those occassions when I have, I take a break and play something else for a couple of weeks (playing KotOR at the moment, in fact), then dive back in.

There's always something to do - take a new character/profession through a campaign, farm, PvP (if you like that sort of thing) or just log on and chat with friends.

At lvl 6, you're just getting started. Don't make a rash judgement based on only a few days' play - give it a chance to grow on you. Maybe you've picked the wrong profession (for your tastes) to start out with. You've got 3 more char slots, make a couple more characters of different professions and switch between them; you might find you like one better. Ranger is a good choice for beginners or you might try a dervish.

Let us know how you feel in a couple of weeks. GW isn't like those other games so it might not be your cup of tea, but we like it.

GW, in terms of PvE, in my mind, has really no great replay value, but thats why they have PvP, which is where you should go after you finish the game, otherwise you can do other cool stuff like farm to get better stuff.

People have been playing Guild Wars almost entierly in PvE replaying the missions with new chars for 2 years. At our time, with games having a life duration of 10 hours, I think that's pretty good...

I know how you feel about the level 20 cap. About 2.5 years ago when I was playing Prophecies (GW1), I was at lvl 19 and not nearly 1/2 way through the game, and I thought "wow thats it??" But at lvl 20 is where you should be judging the game. Its where you will have accumulated more skills and have the ability to change your build more

At level 6 you only have a small set of skills to choose from so some of the comments saying there is little grind and need to think to use the skills will come in later when you have more skills available to your disposal.

At level 6 in Nightfall, you are skill on the beginner island, and even I thought the beginner island was "bleh". Keep playing on and definitely experiment with different professions in other character slots. The game does get better when you get off the island and get to start fighting harder foes.

Also Id recommend getting into a good guild that has people that actually help ya out or has a good active chat going, it does greatly increase the enjoyability of the game.

In terms of replayability, Ive now taken all 9 of my characters through Nightfall, and Factions, 7 through Prophecies and Eye of the North. Or maybe Im just a bit obsessive/compulsive? But hey I had fun with guildies.

Most people who play guild wars like the level 20 limit cap. This shifts the focus off grinding and onto skills and teamwork. Making the game overall more enjoyable.

If you can find yourself a good guild and freinds to play with the game is amazingly replayable, there will allways be something for you to do. Whether it be completing tht mission in hard mode or climbing the guild rank ladder. You will rarely find someone who has conquered the game.

Leveling isn't the point of GW.
Prior to getting to level 20 is just the tutorial.

Just to put some perspective on things, in Nightfall, you can get to level 20 before even leaving the newbie island. But the key thing are the skills. Once you hit the mainland, the level of the enemies ramps up, and you can start getting elite skills and max damage weapons. Combine that w/ the max armor you can start to get at the Consulate docks, and your character becomes quite formidable.

The big thing to keep in mind is that the game does not end at 20 - that's really the starting point of the main game. The big thing GW has going for it is flexibility in character build; you can be a sword & strength warrior 1 minute, and an axe & tactics one the next. You aren't limited in the number of "respecs" you can do, and even 2 characters w/ the same exact stats could have vastly different skill bars. Heck, even the heroes/henchmen you bring w/ you makes a huge difference in your play experience.

In short, you can't base your decision on the entire game by what you have seen up to level 6. Also, there is no grind in GW - only if you choose that path will you have to grind. Getting the necessary Sunspear ranks to advance is very easy and almost automatic just by doing the primary missions. Also, the majority of your XP to advance comes from completing missions - so trying to get levels by killing enemies is going to be a slow endeavor.
