Any real use for it in PvE? If so, what are some builds?

Serious posts only please.

Just grab a bunch of AoE water damage spells like deep freeze and ice spikes and thats about it. Not really any point in being one unless you want to snare something. You would get more damage out of a fire ele.

Maybe in the Ring of fire Islands and the end of GWEN, but that's about it. The main reason you go hydro in PvE is because you want to be a hydromancer, not because there's a need to. Going with fire magic should be fine.

The only real reason to play a Water ele in PvE is if you're one of them beautiful unique snowflake types.

Essentially, the two best spells - Deep Freeze and Maelstrom - do exactly what they need to at 0 spec.
The smaller snares are pointless, the melee hate is overshadowed by stuff available in better lines, and the overall damage of Water is terrible, especially when the beautiful Shatterstone gets knocked down to ~30 damage a packet by silly AI armour.

[skill]Ward Against Harm[/skill] does wonders against certain monster types...mainly Charr with Meteor Shower.

Agreed with above. Just stick with fire/air.

In the right place, against the right foes, Water Magic can very useful. Most notable, the last 3 missions in Prophecies can be made all the easier by bringing a Hydromancer.

I've done well with these skills on my Ele hero:

Basics:
[skill]maelstrom[/skill] [skill]frozen burst[/skill][skill]ice spikes[/skill][skill]frigid armor[/skill][skill]water attunement[/skill][skill]glyph of restoration[/skill]

Elites:
[skill]Ward against harm[/skill] or [skill]shatterstone[/skill]

Glyph Of Immolation -> Earthen Shackles -> Maelstrom & other AoE spells.

Works better with just Fire + Earth, but water can be substituted in for a loss in atribs elsewhere.

I don't think a pure Water Ele makes much sense. Two of Water's best utility skills, Deep Freeze and Maelstrom, are as effective at 0 WM as they are at 16 WM. The only thing that gives any pause in using those skills on a non-Water Ele are the energy costs (25 each), but GoLE and Elemental Attunement render that moot.

In my humble opinion, unless those two skills are changed, there's very little reason to spec solely Water.

I didn't reference anything, it must have been a coincidence

Why go Water in PvE, because you can, you want to, and just nuking gets boring. I have pure builds for all 4 Ele groups, but I like to mix them up as well Deep freeze is a nice snare since they dropped it's casting time down to 2 secs. Nice to mix it up and follow it up with Arc lighting. I know most people cringe at the thought of using Maelstrom but it is a great way to shut down casters like Terrorweb Dyders. a couple of Waters I like use in PvE is

Water Attune
Aura of Rest.
Deep Freeze
Glyph of Energy
MaelStrom
Ice Spikes
glowing Ice
Armor of Mist (all Eles should be able to run)

or mix it up;

Water Attune (or Elemental Attune if not using GoE)
Aura of Rest.
GoLE or GoE if using MaelStrom
Chilling Winds or MaelStrom
Ice Spices
Arc Lighting
Deep Freeze
Armor of Mist (all Eles should be able to run)

the only place i found Water to be a real edge is against those damn runners in moddock crevice. Nothing like mind freezing both of them and then laughing as they go squick. Mwahahahahaa good times, i still hate those bastards

I did find that "You move like a dwarf" works good on them as well, but it is fun to run different builds, after all I don't eat Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, every meal every day.

does thatt work with stonefist gauntlets?

I know this is int he wrong forum but i dont see a need to make a topic about it.

They are easy to beat once you know what to do but it doesn't stop them from the past aggrivation from them running like hell and getting the mass mob to spawn with near wipes many times early NF.

for some reason i made a 2nd ele about a year ago (deleted now for money), but it was surprisingly really good (it was pure water)

1) Ice Spear (SPAMMED LIKE THERE WAS NO TOMMORROW)
2) Vapor Blade
3) Deep Freeze
4) Maelstrom
5) Elemental Attunement
6) Water Attune Meant
7) Aura of Restoration
8) i forgot, add something if u like

im sure it couldve been better, but it worked well especially with a kaolin water staff, but it seems to me if ur gonna do a pure water mage deep freeze and maelstrom are a must

edit* deep freeze is really nice now since the update

Edit: I'm not saying "OMFG everyone go run out and use this skill NOW on all of your characters". If someone tells you to make a castle, and all you have is crap, then you are going to make a Poop Castle.

Learn to watch your radar so you don't flag them into another group.

Is it such a big problem your frontline stops hitting things for a few seconds to prevent you from wiping in meteor shower(s)?

[skill]Rust[/skill] and [skill]Blurred Vision[/skill] are good for supporting PvE vs melee foes that like to use [skill]Healing Signet[/skill] (especially good in ring of fire vs jade armor & hands/fists of titans.. and other warrior foes)

..but a lot of water magic's potency is shared between damage and movement reduction, so if you want sheer damage output that HAS to be cold.. 1) get a fire build and 2) bring a ranger with [skill=text]Winter[/skill].

That said.. [skill]Deep Freeze[/skill] followed by [skill]Maelstrom[/skill] is good for shutting down casters and making sure they can't escape the area very quickly.. but you'd better bring [skill]Glyph of Lesser Energy[/skill].
