When I first started NF 2 days ago, I thought Istan would be a sort of starter island. But as I ventured further into the explorable first city or something, I quickly ran into level 15s and 16s while only being level 8.. So I did some reading of the NF manuscripts and somewhere it said something along the lines of being level 20 in Istan.
So I was wondering if you are supposed to get to level 20 on the first continent?
Thanks for the help.
Confused with NF...

by the time you leave the island you'll be lvl 16-20, but dont worry bout getting to 20, just get thru the main quests

I think most people get to about 15-16 by the time they are ready to do Consulate Docks mission, if they played through the missions and quests.
Consoluate Docks artificially bumps everyone up to level 20 amount of hp, so I assume they expect people to be close to that level.

I think the guide that you read say that if you have done all the mssions and quests in Istan (the starting island like the pre-searing in Prophecy. this island is similar to faction also), you'll be like level 18.
But it is also possible that you can be at level 20 even before you get your second profession if you have other GW (or at least GWen).
I got a Survivor Level 1 before I got my 2nd profession.
When I first played Nighftfall, i made it to level 6 before I finished the Kormish tutorial.

Maybe GWEN is different than other campaigns.

You can get a ferry to Cantha or Tyria from someone who has the quest needed to get there in their log. The Tyria quest name is "Terror In Tyria"

Take your time and enjoy. Gather heroes and level them. The mission to get to the mainland is pretty though when your level your heroe's levels are low. But you gain lots of experience in that mission just by redoing it until you get through so... One way or the other, have a good ride!

I personally dislike Istan and try to get off of it as soon as possible, but it's certainly not difficult to achieve level 20 by the time you leave. The mission for getting off Istan will bump your health temporarily to level 20 to give you less of a disadvantage for the mission, too.
