So I was buying rubies and sapphires yetersday to get my Vabbian armor (finally got it!), and I calculated how much money I'd need. Well, after I bought the first one (out of like 11 each), the price jumps up about 300g. I have no idea why this is necessary. Now I don't think all rare materials do this, but a lot do. And it's annoying and not everyone in the game is made of many. Some of us saved just enough to get the stuff we need, and when the price jumps like that, we have to somehow make more. So I think the prices should stay the same as marked.
Change rare material price jumps

The prices change though supply and demand, so if someone is buying from the trader then their stock decreases thus making the price rise. It works the opposite way too, so if someone is selling to the trader then their stock increases therefore making the price fall.
It was just unlucky for you that the price increased as you were purchasing, perhaps buying from players may have been a better option as most people sell for less than the trader price.

It's supply and demand, what you're suggesting is an entire reworking of the economy. Someone isn't sitting behind a desk going "Rubies should go up 300g now!" and then presses a button and it happens, it's basically almost an entirely player-controlled economy.
Super double posting WOOT
Anyway,.....
Yeah, what them guys said. When I plan on buying stufff from the trader, due to the fact that I'm lazy and don't feel like sitting around spam in trade chat for what I need all day, I buy them here and there to prevent the influx in price jump. Like one or two Onyx a day to make destroyer weapons, not 10 at once. The same thing as what happened to you happened to me when I bought 10 at once. Since doing it "onesies twosies" style thats never happened to me since.

Prices jump up and down depending on Supply Via Demand curve.
Note: Demand curve goes down. Supply curve goes up.
As more and more people buy (demand goes up), suppy will be more scarced thus will be more expensive (Supply goes down.)
Thus, as you buy more and more, prices will be higher and higher as well.
If you want to prevent this, you can do 1 of the 2 things or maybe both:
- Use collector for exchanging rare mat. Check wikis for recipe.
or
- Buy from real people. Will take time but there are people who sell these at lower price and the price won't go up as you buy more and more.
That's why you can only buy 1 rare mat at a time. Changing this will make mat = fixed price. Thus won't be realistic. Think about ectos. If supply becomes more and more (people farm more and more) but price still stay at the same level, the game will be ruined because people will just farm and noone use it but sell it to trader for a fixed price. Yes, that mean ectos will be the medium of real players sell to the game developer. It's stupid.
