Are green drop rates to low for normal non farming play?

I get a lot of funny focuses from necro bosses. I know myself well enough not to try and farm a green I want - instead I build up the cash and buy it directly. Less aggravation overall.

I've had 2 greens (that I can remember) in 30 months. Both were random drops. 1 was back in the SF days, and the other was a non-max green form NF noob island.

Luck is against you. Not much else to say here. You can get dozens or none, that's what comes from a system that is based on luck of the draw on drops.

From personal experience, yes I think the green drop is too low if you're in a group. Heck, even when I solo, I've encountered instances where greens would rarely drop. Once I solo killed a boss 50 times with no green dropping (got tons of gold items and jade shards, but no green). And this was before the change to the game where drops are affected by team size.

While drops are based on luck, the overall rate seems too low IMO.

It may also depend on the area. In SF, greens seem to drop like leaves from trees. In a 5~8 man group, Rago alone has given me his greens more than 10 times (in about 4 months of play). That's more than I've got from normal play in Factions, NF, and GWEN combined in about 2 years worth of play.

Btw, why do some people still think playing with human players increases your drops? It doesnt'. It's just that you don't see the drops assigned to H/H.

My Prophecies Ranger is one of the "luckiest" characters I have in terms of drops during normal game play. In Pre-Searing he got 2 black dyes and 2 white ones plus an assortment of other colors. He had close to 7k by the time he left Pre at level 8 due to selling and salvaging drops. He's gotten a lot of green drops from bosses in various campaigns but mostly from bosses in EotN - he even got a bow for himself. When I play this character I get the feeling that the game likes Rangers.

I have a Factions Elementalist that seems to get more gold item drops than my other characters and my Nightfall Necro seems to get more dye drops than the others - yesterday he got 3 silver, 1 blue and 1 purple doing cartography. They always go out with full teams of H/H - or maybe 1 or 2 less depending on the area.

On the other hand, my Nightfall Mesmer has no luck at all. Drops of any kind for her are few and far between. When she got to level 20, she had less than 3k and couldn't even afford max armor, much less runes or insignias. Her team is still sadly under-equipped. My Dervish is the same way. I keep them both, for now, but use them primarily for storage and will probably replace them at some point.

Reading these replies, I figure my ranger is "lucky", or at least luckier than most. I started playing in late Nov, and have gotten 3 random green drops, and have gotten several of all colors of dyes, including about 5 blacks and several whites. (2 of the blacks were in pre)

But you see more drops. Its just psychology.

If you go out with H/H and get only whites you think that droprate sucks.

If you go out with other players and see dozen of golds/greens drop (even if none of them is for you) you think that drop rate rocks.

In both cases you got full white inventory, but in second case you think droprate is OK, in first case you are off to forums to complain.

I would have to say YES.

Just as an example, a couple of weeks ago I started to capture every single Elite Skill in my character (I only have one), and I only had capped the ones for my Necro and the occasional skill that fit the needs of my heroes.

From all the bosses that I killed to get the Elites, I got ZERO greens. I did it with my girlfriend and she got 2 in the whole process.

Maybe not in NM, but when doing somethings on HM I normally get the greens.
Some not expected like Banhba staff/wand and so on, just walking from outpost to outpost.

Some bosses tend to drop their green so often, and if farming you will get the green as much times as you can handle it in your inventory (i got * 8 Milthuran's staff :P).

While vanquishing Cantha (already finished) i didnt get more than 5 greens i think.
And you can always re-try till the green you desire drops. I get the Ugly Stick that way (about.... 15 runs or more with H&H) and also got the Nightbringer just going 1 or 2 runs with full H&H.

Maybe its a random thing and you are out of luck ^^

I've probably averaged 1 green drop per character per campaign by just going through and doing the missions and 50% of the quests along the way, if I see a boss I kill it. And a ton playing through certain ss/lb or EOTN point areas.
