Shouldn't this be fixed by now?

I was pretty much forced to stop playing GW about 6 months ago when Vista, Nvidia, and Guild Wars decided not to cooperate with each other and to give be an average of 13fps on my more than capable rig. I'm aware that it is apparently a driver issue, but it seems odd to me that neither Nvidia or Anet has fixed the problem on their end (for me at least). Believe me Anet, i want to give you my money for EoTN, but I'm not going to try to track down some compatible drivers from half a year ago.

I run Vista Ultimate with a temporary video card Nvidia 8600GT(waiting for the monster cards coming out) and its working fine with GW. There shouldn't be a problem involving GW to pick side over ATi or Nvidia since thats stupid the game supports both. This problem is settled they made an update that supports Vista for some time now. I dont know if you have the 32 or 64 bit edition of Vista but i tried the 32 bit and it works.

I have Vista 32bit home premium and been running Nvidia card with no problems, so GW has always run on Vista on my machine since it came out.

Hmmm, well I guess it's just me then. Anyone have any idea what the problem could be? I've tried updating graphics drivers, reinstalling Guild Wars, defragging hard drives, and running the game without sound. Any help would be greatly appreciated, and I could post my DxDiag info if wished.

I have a similar problem - if yours is the "lose framerate after minimizing" thing. I've seen some people tag it on some Nvidia driver incompatibility that only affects certain cards on certain motherboards or some such. Also heard something that it might have to do with the graphics card being AGP instead of PCI-E.

My rig is a E6400, 7600GS (AGP), on a Via PT880 Ultra-based motherboard (an Asrock 4coredual-vsta) running Vista Ultimate, and I get easily 40-60fps with max settings as long as I don't minimize GW. It would be nice for this to be solved by SOME party - I have also heard accounts from anet that yes, they tested the configuration, and no, the problem is not on their end, but nvidia's, who haven't said a peep. Go figure.

go to windows update and download everything you possibly can, I used to have this issue too. Vista64, ati hd2600. After I switched video cards from a 6600(nvidia) to a hd2600(ati)I still had the issue of slow frame rates. It took about a week before windows update had anything to fix it.

I -have- installed everything in Windows Update(except the Ultimate edition extras and language packs), have tried several versions of drivers, and have all the hotfixes installed, to no avail.

theres a patch for gw to run on vista and i tried both vista and xp and it runs smoothly so dont listen to people who say its vista fault. I decided to reinstall XP though since i play mostly DirectX9 games and most of them dont support Vista

Just because it wasn't a vista related problem with you, doesn't mean it can't be a vista related problem with other people. I have a vista laptop, which never crashes during a game or something, but crashes randomly when I'm like working with word or browsing
Some people say that installing the XP driver helps, maybe you can try that?

I had a similar experience to the OP's. However, mine was due to a video driver released from Microsoft for my card. It kept crashing my system.

I just downloaded the latest revision from PNY (the card's manufacturer), uninstalled the driver I had, and updated the driver using the one from PNY. I then did a Microsoft Update scan and ignored the drivers they were giving me, that way this wouldn't happen again. I also noticed that this same problem happens after corrupt .NET updates.

gw had made a ''patch''(<-keyword there) that solved the gw not working on vista thing i dont know wat ur talking about other software crashing ur laptop cause that is unrelated to his reason of not being able to to play gw on vista. try updating ur vista. Service Pack 1 and etc.
