Since EOTN is an expansion, it has less content. However, EOTN and the original GW are being sold in some sort of "Platinum Addition" bundle pack. So if you want to do that, you can get the original and EOTN for cheap that way.

Obviously it is a matter of opinion, but I would go for factions. You would build up a greater understanding of skill/spell use in preparation for when you try GWEN, which is a step up and for experienced players.

Factions also has alliance battles and a version of the random arenas (as in random team mates) called fort aspenwood and jade quarry that are a lot of fun.

Factions was my first, i got it before original guild wars, go with that, its definately the most user friendly to start off with Also alliance battles are a nice soft introduction into PvP, dont worry about giving it a go either, its all for fun

Get Factions imo. It's a full game, so you'll get more out of it, theres more lower-end PvE available in Factions that you can access with your Prophecies characters (because you may not be good enough to handle the harder PvE in EotN), you get more professions, Warriors get [skill=text]Dragon Slash[/skill], plus more good stuff.

NOOOOO AB is for the 1337 PvP'ers in GW!!!

lol but yeah, i'd get factions. it's got the 6 main classes that are in proph, plus the sin and rit classes. more skills, too, and overall good experience.

I'd also listen to those guys, get proph and EotN bundled.

If you want to mainly PvP go right ahead with Factions, as EotN doesn't give you that much in that regard, however if you want an equal amount of PvE get GW+EotN Platinum Edition.

Like most posters before me, I like Factions better too, but you'll have a far less frustrating time playing PvE with heroes which EotN has, but Factions and Prophecies don't.
Besides, you can get that Platinum Edition for the price of one campaign at most online shops, which leaves more room in your budget to get Factions too, as you can also find it on sale often.

Hmmmm, dunno bout that, I enjoyed it, some skills are pretty good too, only downer is you have to be high lvl (eg. asuran/dwarf etc.) before they kick booty

I had trouble finding Factions too, you could do what I did and buy from the online store
