I recently visited my cousin, so I took my Oblivion dvd with me (he's got a high-end pc, but even then TES4 was laggy in high details). Three days ago I installed it and everything worked. Today I came back home and tried to install Oblivion on my pc. In 3/5 of progress, setup crashes because of data error. I don't know if it matters, but it was crashing on my cousin's pc, so I made an image of disc and then it worked. But when I try to make an image on my pc, it crashes anyway, because Dvd is probably corrupted. Are there any free software to repair my dvd? I don't want to download game with torrents (illegal + a lot of time taken).

You can download the game with a torrent, it's legal since you have a DVD with the game. It is only illigal if you use the game without having paid for it, you allready paid for a copy. Takes time , YES

if its a scratch then you would have to use one of those skip drs that "resurface" the disks.

Eh.. Guess you're right. I'm now downloading through warez, 45 files, 100 mb each. It will take... over 3-4 hours :/ I so hate vulnerable discs. At least less than with torrents (200 kb/s instead of 30-40 kb/s).

edit: God damn rapidshare limitations.

You can't use any software to repair the DVD. You can however get some Rain-X and a soft cloth to wipe the DVD off with. Be sure to wipe it off from the center towards the outer edges.

Tried to use AnyReader, but there were too many errors for it to work... I'll just download it with torrent, although it sucks.

Thanks for help anyway.

The data layer of discs is actually on the top. If the top isn't scratched, the dvd can be repaired. You just need to buff off the lower layer until the scratches are removed. (Literally removing a fine layer of the material).

There's cheap tools to do this with, but a good rub with a suitable cloth would be a good alternative.
There's plenty of ideas on google.

Be sure to check your downloaded version for nasty surprises before installing.

The repair ideas work too, I worked on a scratched disk using part of an old cotton tee shirt after 5 min rubbing it worked well enough to install and make a backup copy.

CD's and DVD's are basically plastic with little (deep but narrow) gouges burned in them (hench "burning" a disk), so removing a small layer of the plastic will not harm it.
