'New Feature' Announcements
Cargan
The latest one to slip by without being formally announced is the payment options for character slots. Apparently you can now pay by phone.
Now, I'd have thought this would be in the best interest of Anet to announce that they have another payment option to let people know that although perhaps they previously could not acquire a character slot (or whatever else can be purchased this way) it is now possible to do it another way.
Anet, please, at the very least make such announcements on the official GW site. Preferrably, I'd like to see it on the loginscreen since it's underused for announcements (see http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...hp?t=10245516).

Note: if anyone feels like updating the wiki, on the "Guild Wars In-Game Store" page, it states:
The only way to pay is by using a credit or debit card, a PaySafe card, or a pre-purchased gift card such as those that bear the Visa trademark.

That seems to be only a new feature for the European store. North America store does not offer pay-by-phone.
On Volt
I don't have it either, and I live in Belgium :P

That option is available in Germany, but as i understand the number to phone isn't active yet. A FAQ has been promised by Martin Kerstein (german NCSoft CR http://guildwars-forum.onlinewelten....&postcount=10).
Unfortunately that system has hefty extra costs (€1,86/min + €2 per purchase) and apparently you have to buy everything separate.
Official announcement will most likely be made once the FAQ is ready and the feature is active.

nearly missed the announcement on eu.guildwars.com
here's the FAQ
http://eu.guildwars.com/support/article/surfpin/
probably not newsworthy enough for the rest of the world
p.s. nice treatment of customers by NCSoft.eu /sarcasm
-additional costs are handed down to the customer (hey, wasn't extra costs the reason why they don't want paypal? with this system those are suddenly acceptable)
-the reason for the major uproar in the European community (availability of the BMP without owning a CC) isn't available through this new method..
p.p.s this might be of help for some players: Many German players use a cost free virtual MasterCard (https://www.wirecard.com/wirecard/). It seems to be available for several European countries (at least there are several translations). The ingame shop accepts it for German players, but it's a German company and i have no idea, if the shop would accept for people outside Germany. (the ingame shop is known to reject credit cards which aren't issued in the same country as the buyer is trying to buy from.. asking support first for Netherlands or Belgium might be better)
edit: i have to correct myself -> the phone call itself appears to be free of charge when done from a landline

It won't bring benefit to Anet. There won't be more people buying GW1 or upgrades for GW1 anymore. And to set up a phone payment, I believe Anet need to deal with banking system and set up a sub-server for themself to receive payments! Beside you also need to have a on-phone person to deal with this as well. It will cost more but bring nothing to Anet's pocket. A bad idea!

I'd rather use ATM card then order by phone.

Yea, on topic: I think it would be nice, I don't see why this wasn't in there in the first place. I'd rather pay by phone than use a credit card also.

I wish you could buy an extra Hero slot, say, $5 for the ability to use four Heroes instead of three. Now, I'd go for that.

This new payment option isn't for GuildWars alone. NCSoft is using it to sell Dungeon Runner memberships too.
btw. this thread might be better renamed and moved to Riverside
