Marriage and Children

Hey guys!

Just an idea i was having for maybe GW2:
Allow peoples Characters to get "married" and give them an option to have children or not. New players will get the option to have parents or be an orphan, so if you choose for parents then a married couple will receive you as a child. The parents can then help their "child" with answers etc. That way the newbies get more support. So this is probably only for people willing to help others, but i think it's a great help for new players (remember me in pre-searing having no idea what identifying ur items was and what it was useful for, but then a friend of mine helped me )

Well its just an idea, so give ur opinions

if you want to help other find a solution that doesn't imply sex. Kids will go mad if that sees the daylight

Yea, don't even get me started on this.

Recently, a friend's allied guild took on a new member. Their Guild Leader and his partner both play and made the TERRIBLE mistake of calling their new recruit "son"...just like a turn of phrase. Their "son" started calling them "mum and dad" and for the next 4 or 5 days demanded help on every tiny little thing in the game. If my friends weren't online he would spam in alliance "omg were's mum and dad?????", in the end, they kept themselves "offline" to hide from him because they didn't have the heart to kick him. Eventually his greed got the better of him and he left. True Story.

When I'm playing, I sure as hell don't want "dependants" in-game. I have my own things to do and don't want to feel obliged to look after someone else. I have a few people in my alliance, and on my friends list, who are fairly new and I help out on a regular basis, but none of them are demanding or needy, and that's nice.

I'm not sure whether to close this thread or not. Too many juvenile comments will lead to closure.

I'd hate to get an annoying brat as a "child" and likewise, even as a starting player, I'd hate to have other inexperienced players that think they're good as "parents".

I mean, most GW chars look like adults/young adults, except for a few faces which look old. I'd find creepy to have that "Santa Paragon" for a child with my ~20/30 chars...

It's not a role I would take on for any of my characters but that's no reason for me to deprive others of fun, if enough want it to happen then let it.

Of course there will be a downside as the kids and "kidults" start making childish comments but then is that a reason for denying someone the freedom to play a game how they wish.

Just report and ban the idiots and move on

Oh god please no. Agree with Sims comment. I'm not against the sims, but it's a different kind of game. Besides, it gets a bit weird when your character is really the same age as their 'child'. If newbies need help they usually ask, then we can help. Besides, wiki is the best resource, so direct them to f10 and your job will be done.

This is good stuff and I bet Alex approves of this :d

I can't understand why people want to have virtual families in a game... But I guess it's just me, playing a game, not babysitting in a game.

I believe that basically what you're saying is, that instead of being a GUILD member, you're a CHILD?? and so the Officers are parents, and GOD knows what that makes the leader? the pimp that set the parents up?!? and if you don't want a guild *ahem* sorry "family" you're an orphan?? Get the F*** outta here! guild system works fine, this ain't the sims.

If you want to run your guild as a family .... have fun, but I don't see any need to incorporate such a feature into the game itself.
