what kind of gamer plays GW?
Cure For Road Rage
most gw players i've talked to fall into 2 categories: WoW players & Halo players. now, i wonder:
1) what kind of games do you play in addition to gw? (fps, strategy, rpg etc)
2) does your gaming preference influence what gw classes you pick? (for example, i love tactical shooters like R6 Vegas, and also love the ranger class in gw. i'm not into warcraft iii, and don't play mm necros in gw)
p.s. to all you console gamers: get a mouse!

Macks Mistress
1) FPS, Stratergy....this is my first RPG.
2) Hmmm that's a tough one, I generally don't stick to one kind of profession I like to experience all aspects of a game. If I had to choose a general area I'd say support.
Haha, agreed.

1) I play rpg, rts, and fps - though normally my preference is in that order.
2) I'm more of a caster than melee, but once again I try to play a bit of everything.
I don't play assassin, just never really hooked me. Partially though I'll admit it was because the armour choice for the profession is really quite poor. If I became interested enough in the armour I would try again.

I tend to play games not even listed (Madden, GH, Rockband et al) but I seem to be gravitating towards shooters and adventure games now (Assassin's Creed, Halo, but I suck at it). Also love strategy games like Age of Empires and the like. These games don't typically influence my choice in GW (how can being a guitarist or a drummer influence what I pick?).
I tend to start out with a rogue-like character like a ranger or an assassin. I eventually move on to caster types such as an elementalist then I pick up the core frontliners like warrior and dervish. I end up trying all professions and like the variety in play styles (especially when I monk).

I play mostly sandbox games and games where you can customize stuff.
I mostly played a PvE mesmer using oddball builds that tried to do anything I could think of, so I think that's my enjoyment in games. Playing around with things and seeing what I can make.
I was never really interested in beating anything, just making stuff. I never bothered to finish Prophecies or EotN, but I spent 2 years playing, mostly in the training isle area. XD

I play alot of non-turn based heavily story driven RPGS, the occational action/shooter.
I play a Warrior as my main and my Ele is quickly taking second place. Not really influenced by other games,I like shooters but really hate the ranger. And alwats tend to play more stealth based chars but hate sins.
And I am really starting to see the "PC Gamer Aryan Race" mentality thing I keep hearing about. I like my consule just fine thank you.

Nooooo mice for me when console gaming.
It requires a surface and console gaming is more fun when I am lunging around.
I don't like sitting at a table when playing on my console. I sit back in bed.

1: I play pretty much any genre of game whether it be strategy or RPG/FPS as long as their fun I play them. Although I have to admit that I've always been more interested in RTS games like the Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War series.
2: I've always had an affinity for melee oriented classes in games, I'm not too choosy and don't dislike any classes but my three mains are Warrior/Dervish/Assassin so I guess that says something about me.

I am that rare, special breed of gamer that is like a fine wine....you know...the kind of wine that a James Bond type would sniff it and say something profound in French before taking a sip.
The kind of gamer that other guys really look up to and respect. I'm well known on just about all the major gaming boards and people really, really love me.
I'm the best at every game I play while still maintaining the respect and like of all individuals...in other words people don't hate me because I'm good, they love me in spite of my superior talent.
I guess that's the type of gamer I am.

RTS - > RPG -> FPS ->every other genre
StormDragonZ
I have played: Halo, Starcraft, Warcraft 1-3, Diablo 1 & 2, Pokemon, Tales of Symphonia, every Legend of Zelda, Super Mario RPG, Final Fantasy 5-8, and so many other games that would take too long to type out.
What kind of gamer am I? The kind that just plays to have fun. I'm not trying to be the best, I'm not trying to be well loved or admired, and I'm not trying to prove anything at all to anyone except I know what to do and I'm good at doing it no matter if I win or lose in the end.
One word: Entertainment.

hmm...
1) I play almost any game, but prefer RPG.
2) I also play every profession....
In order of preference:
Paragon - Strong damage, party support, survivability, what more could you want?
Monk - I am good at it, enjoy surviving the "tough" spots and triple aggro.
Assassin - Always love underplayed/underestimated professions. I think the Assassin is very underestimated.
Ranger - Like bows...like interrupts...like pets...thats about it.
Dervish - Take a beating, give out a beating, and blind absolutely everything.
Necromancer - Like the concept, but gets boring.
Ritualist - Love the concept, but lack of interesting skills is bad.
Mesmer - Fun in PvP, not worthwhile in PvE.
Elementalist - Boring....
Warrior - Just no, absolutely hate it for PvE and PvP.

1) FPS, Strategy, and RPG. Adventure, too, if there were any good adventure games out...
2) Gaming preferance? Not too sure. It's more about the game in general: I'm always a warrior in every RPG I can make. Of course there are exceptions, like WoW for instance, my favorite classes are a Warlock and Mage.

2) I think so. Since I enjoy many different types of games, I can enjoy all the different classes about equally. The only reason I say 'about,' is because I have a certain loyalty to my first character, my necro, whom I chose for no particular reason other than I liked the way she looked.

I didn't say what type of games I liked!
I liked GTA:San Andreas and Oblivion and the Sims 2 and Morrowind and probably will like Little Big Planet.

I don't game as much as I'd like to, but I like action and adventure games, and a bit of FPS is fun.
Zahr Dalsk
FPS games. RTS games. Action RPGs.
But my favourites by far are true RPGs like Baldur's Gate, NWN2:MotB, PS:T, etc. Mask of the Betrayer in particular is a game of the highest order of quality, ever.
I play casters in most games.

I need to be /ranked by you after reading this.
Silly kids, who do you people honestly think you are?

1.) I enjoy pretty much every type of game you can think of, everything from tetris to halo. my big ones are of course easily acronymed; RPG, FPS, & RTS. Guild Wars is my only MMO however.
2.) I think it does affect what style I prefer in GW, I absolutely adore being Minion Master, I often find myself comparing it to RTS style of play. I do however enjoy playing all the professions, but nothing beats that sense of power I get from controlling an army of undead

Civ games. Rise of Nations. Master of Orion.
Diablo 1/2.
D&D based games - all the way from Gold Box through Baldur's Gate and NWN. Might and Magic series. Bunch of other traditional RPGs along the way (all the way back to Wizardry I).
Mechwarrior series. Falcon (what a great sim game that was).
KOTOR, Phantasy Star.
The odd platformer (Ninja Gaiden, Crash Bandicoot).
Some racing games - one of the later Need for Speed games, Gran Turismo, etc.
Old school adventure games - all the way from Infocom text adventures up to the stuff put out in the mid 1990's or so.
Half-Life (only shooter I ever really cared for).
Don't think you can pin me to a single genre. As for influences over character choices - I like to blow things up. However, I spent much of my first year monking HA and GvG, so there you go. (No place for Fire Eles in top-end GvG back then.)

I've never come across a genre of game which I hate, except possibly the grindy mmo type thing. I played WoW a bit, got bored since I don't have the time to make the time investment a game like that requires.
arsie
I get a headache from console games because of TV refresh rates, but I could solve that with an LCD tv. 1st person shooters also give me a headache, so its RTS and RPG for me mostly.
Quite frankly, I've done less of non-online games since starting online games.

I have played games since pong and across all consoles and pc eras. I enjoy rpg's the most. I sat out this round of consoles due to money (had to upgrade my pc for school). Hell, I will be honest, I bought a better computer to play Oblivion. The best games I could play on my last computer were the last few Might and Magic games.

I mainly play RPG's and real time strategy games. Despite that my favorites are Space Combat simulators and Graphic adventures, but in the last times there is a lack of good games in both.
I don't think that it has influenced in my character choice. I play mainly Ranger, and monk.

I basically like anything fantasy-ish RPG style is also something I like.

FPS, Strategy, Fighters, RPG, and Adventure... Really just about anything- Its not about the genre its about how good/well the game is and represents.
Unfortunately as far as tactics go, on an individual scale I can't represent my ideal preferences. But usually I like going for abstract strategies that others often would never consider. See ---> All Warrior Teams, All Mesmer teams, in the screenshot forums.
Edit: Halo sucks. Theres no need for me to further elaborate.
