Did you buy Elite Tome for your Character
Bluefeather
I bought one Elite Tome for my new Warrior and I used it to learn Dragon Slash. I bought it for 6k.
I noticed that Elite Tomes are sold high (and people are buying it). There are other players who are selling Normal tome for more than 1k (LOL max price of tome from NPC is 1k).
How about you? Did you buy Elite for your new character? Does it worth the price of your tome?

I didn't buy them, I think it's a waste. If you buy them early, then you can't really use it because your attribute is low. But if you are really desperate, I guess you could buy it. Also if you are survivor, you should probably cap it unless you went boxing. So, in all, No I did not.
Vitues
got all monk elites via tomes
Cacheelma
I "used" the ones I had for some secondary elites because it's too troublesome to bring my Rit to cap them.
Kattar
No, but I start new chars that often. I only sell them.
Bluefeather
Tomes (skills) don't need attributes right? Like, I can use Dragon Slash even if im level 3?
@ Vitues, you must be very rich. Too many gold or working on titles?

I used Mind Blast at level 2. What?
I used an elite Warrior tome for Warrior's Endurance because I can't be bothered to go cap it.

When I am making chars PvP ready that I know will run at most two to three bars, I give them tomes for everything.
My ranger and warrior are a good example of this.

For me, characters who are for a specific purpose(IE, not my main) will get their elites from tomes unless the elite is close. My main doesn't need to cap/use tomes for elites(legendary skill capper ).

What NPC sells tomes?

Malice Black
No. My guildies have kindly donated about 5 warrior elites to me though. Go go D-Slash spammin'
I would though. Elites can be useful at lower levels.

I've used tomes to get some skills for my 55. Same with my warrior since I didn't feel like going to cap some of the skills I wanted for him (Eviscerate being a fine example seeing as I can NEVER find it in SF). Other than that I typically sell my tomes to fuel my ranger's progress toward elite skill hunter. Only 40 something skills left to go
You can use tomes at any level, but often your attribute points are too low to get the most out of a skill. Dragon Slash, for instance is best used with at least 14 swordsmanship because then you can use a shout that doubles adrenaline and spam it as much as you want.

Unless there are other things that I need to know about tomes.
@ Malice, its really good to have good guild. The last time i was in a guild, i kept giving never receiving (LOL no offense to my former guildmates).

I buy only 1 or 2 elite tomes (to unlock good elites) for my characters if the desired elite skills are far within the storyline.
However, I usually end up selling more than buying, resulting in a huge surplus

Also, tomes (elite or normal) will only allow you to "learn" skills already unlocked by your other character, right? So, even if the skill is available in the early part of the game and your character have not learned it yet, the skill will not be listed as "learnable" when you use a tome, am I right?
ShadowsRequiem
Yeah I bought most of all my Sin and Monk elites just so I could pvp and not have to go through chapters.
I only have bought elite really. I've sold hundreds of monk/mes/ele/war tomes

And you're correct about the unlocking part. And that's why I said it only applies to Nightfall-only skills, as I'm quite sure you can't learn some skills in Kamadan even though you've unlocked it.
Correct me if I'm wrong.
Bluefeather
I was reading WIKI a while ago about Skill Tomes and it says there that tomes don't consume skill point (so it is really possible to have the title without even actually playing the game.)
StormDragonZ
1,160,000 gold spent on Signet of Captures for four of my characters to have Legendary Skill Hunter.
My fifth character is currently working on getting it also.
I have never used one Elite Tome.

I would've used elite skill tomes for my 'sin (I am not going all the way through that lame-ass Factions campaign just for Moebius, tyvm); luckily though my baby 'sin was born whilst we could map anywhere with the GH glitch
Zamochit
I already have one legendary skill hunter and I am not planning on going for it with another one.
I think I used two elite tomes overall for it . One for Feast of Corruption (which I had already capped once on another character) and one for Golden Skull Strike (which I had already capped once on another character). The way I see it ~ its not cheating if youve already capped it once. I didnt buy the tomes either I had them as drops and just used them to save myself the bother of those two "annoying" caps.

I've only ever used tomes for the elites that are a pain to cap. They otherwise aren't worth it(they were 10-15k when they were first introduced) unless I get them as drops myself. At lvl 2-3, most elites won't do me much good anyway.

For new characters.
For existing characters I just wiki some capture locations, choose one, hack a bloody path to the boss in question, kill it, remember that I forgot Signet of Capture, go back and get Signet of Capture, kill boss again, capture skill.

I only used a W tome for Quivering Blade because it's impossible to get the boss spawn without a quest line. It doesn't make sense paying more than 1k/elite when you can get almost all Canthan/Elonian elites directly outside an outpost.
RavagerOfDreams
1 elite Sin Tome for mah sin
temple strike cuz ima kurz and i dont wanna do that stupid mish to go get it >: (

when tomes came out I already had all skills on all my chars. I saved up normal tomes for gwen skills though, but didn't buy any.
genofreek
Nah, I can stand to wait until I can cap the elite for myself. Save some cash. There are very few exceptions to this.

I used 1 just so I could have the build I wanted to run from lvl 2. I didn't feel like playing through a good part of the game just to cap the elite I wanted for my build, I would rather use a tome then play through with the elite.

BUY!? never, USed yes---if I get one to drop I have no problem using it (have a character going for the skill hunter so he would definitely not mind getting a few---)
Have gotten a mesmer one and a warrior one, and used them both.

Well i used a elite ele tome to get mind blast. Can't be bothered to bring my ele threw nf, but then I found that tome. Most of the elite tomes I find I just sell though. I do buy regular tomes though.
chowmein69
Ive only used tomes for Restore Condition,Soul Leech and Fevered dreams.

The only my lvl 3 Warrior need is 450k to earn Legendary Skill Hunter. Too bad i only have 24k atm.
The reason why i asked this is because I am really used to having Elite Skill early part of the game. My earliest for warrior is Cleave, my earliest for Ranger is Barrage. I always got those for Running to Drok even when i'm still below level 10.
The only different now is that I don't have to run anymore and I only have to pay few gold (8k for my new warrior). I'm planning to buy one elite for necro but i still don't feel like playing other character now.
Since most of players use elite tome at very early part of the game, I think I shouldn't feel guilty for having uber character at the start of the game.
LOL Maxed Armor, Maxed Weapon (for cheap price), Elite Skill at level 2. Challenging? Ummm, probably not. But it's fun

For a character I want to play I have only ever purchased one elite tome - I was curious as to how a new ranger would play in the noob areas with Barrage, had the gold, and purchased it. I can't say I was terribly happy or unhappy with the decision - while I'm cheap I mostly found it enough fun to be worth wasting the gold.
I have purchased several for farming characters. For the most part I *really* do not like playing a monk or ritualist yet there are areas I do very much enjoy farming with them. As such I don't like going far enough in the game to cap an elite and would rather just use the tome. I now only play them to the furthest farming point I want to do. Since they are farming characters I tend to look at the cost of the tome vs how long to get said skill - if it is "cheaper" (that is, if I can make 8k and hour, tome costs 16k, and it takes three hours to get to the elite then it is cheaper) then I do it, if not then I unlock the area.
Other than that I may use one I found but will not buy. Since I will eventually make it to that area anyway I'm too cheap. I currently have an Assassin that *really* wants two elites but I'm sitting at Vizunah Square until I feel like making the attempt (I *hate* this mission with a passion on *all* my characters). I will also use one I found on my skill hunter characters if it is a skill I don't like to bother with (many of the Tyrian ones that have random spawns).
Mostly I sell them and tend to sell them low so I don't stand around spamming the trade channel or worrying with the trade party window.

I haven't bought any elite tomes, I have however used several I've picked up in HM. Reg tomes on the other hand are amazing, i've bought a ton of those. 300g per skill vs 1k. the choice is clear there.
