Weapons
TPike
I'm a relatively new player.
My current char I've gotten to lvl20.
Curently using all fire skills except for energy mgt.
As a primary weapon I've been using a blue 11-22 fire wand with inscrip & a purple flame artifact in my off hand.
This gives about 19 extra energy and 9 extra armor together.
If I use a blue fire staff the extra energy goes down to about 15.
I also use the spell that increases damage by fire weapons by 20.
From a guildie I just got a green Lightning staff & another green staff I cant recall that deals chaos damage (req 9 energy storage). (2K gold each)
It seems like the most powerful combination is still a blue fire wand with the spell to increase it's damage.
Did I just waste money buying those green weaps?
Should I be looking to buy a green or gold fire wand so I can keep the +9 energy in the off hand? Staffs don't seem like a very good trade-off at all.
The weapons you get from collectors aren't maxxed are they?
I guess what I want to know is other than buying a 100K weapon what are the best options for me? I don't have a lot of money.
(Sorry I can't give names for weaps or skills, can't access wiki from work)

Buy a 20/20 wand and a 20/20 focus for Fire Magic.
It is the best weapon set for a PvE ele, allowing you to fire off more spells faster than any other combination. You can craft them for 5k + mats from either this dude or this dudette.
Oh, and for the spell that increases damage, Conjure Flame? I'd recommend dropping it. The damage from wanding isn't of any importance, and wasting a skill on it when you could take a more useful spell instead is 'myeh' at best.
Especially when you get a good Elite to base a good build, you really won't spend much time at all wanding things.

well, just thought i'd give my input. but, it's time to upgrade. offhands are 'sposed to give +12 energy, not +9. ^^

If I use the Lightning one I'd have to switch points into Air.

If it's maxed, then it might be an idea untill you haul your ass down to the Leviathan Pits/Vasburg Armory for some real weapons

Never even HEARD of those places - Prophecies?
I'm pretty far through Nightfall ( I think 1 Vabbi quest left) and just started EotN. The won't even sell me weaps yet in EotN.
I also have factions but the char isn't very far along.
I've NEVER been to the Underworld but can access it and have a scroll. Can I go down there just to buy weaps?

In my opinion, you should consider looking into 3 weapon sets:
1. As Alex says: a 20/20 Wand and a 20/20 offhand. - for general use.
2. A staff with Double HCT and an Enchanting modifier. - When you rely on a few enchantments.
3. A staff with +60HP. - A +HP set for in case you start to rack up death penalty.
Don't worry about using a weapon set which causes your energy to decrease. Energy Storage makes that not matter...who cares if your energy falls from 85 to 70 because you switched weapons? Also, if you're using fire magic, you dont really want to be using an Air staff (the one you describe does lightning damage).
Energy Storage staves can be good all-round staves and doesn't matter too much if you switch elements...They're also ok if you don't have much money and want a staff-for-all-occaisions, so if you want to invest in Energy Storage staves I'd suggest the following mods:
If you're wanting to play mainly Fire Magic however, I'd stick with getting more specialised Fire Magic weapons, instead of general E-Storage ones. Begin by getting the 40/40 set Alex suggests...then go from there.
I noticed there is a collector for Putrid Cysts in the Marketplace. I think I have 5 somewhere so if you want a free collector fire staff whisper me.

You can't buy weapons from the underworld.
jonnieboi05
the towns he mentioned are the end-towns for factions on both the luxon side and kuzick sides.
leviathan pits.......= luxon.. (where 15k luxon armor is located)
vasburg armory... = kurzick (where 15k kurzick armor is located)

Can't argue with the advice so far in NM PvE. I did virtually all of it with a Hale Fire Staff of Enchanting.
For HM using a MB bar, I'd suggest a high energy set (one with at least one 15/-1 item).
Just my 2c

imo, +15/-1 is horrible for pve. the -1 hurts more than you know.
CandyPrince
You really need a staff with max enchanting mod as an ele. Energy management is critical and most of that is done with enchants. Having said that a good mix of weapons doesn't hurt depending upon builds etc. I personally just carry a insightful staff of enchanting (zodiac, not that that matters!) and never tend to struggle with energy management. I equip ragos on Zhed as well which is probably the best fire green still.

Only time I would consider using a +15/-1 set on an Ele would be if I were in Hard Mode, and there were many other Eles around, and I was using Mind Blast...and then it would only be a set to switch to if I needed to try to re-gain energy off an enemy Ele. I don't like them either, and I wouldn't really suggest that a newbie uses them.

yea, i shoulda said "fighting on a +15/-1 is horribly bad" rather than "+15/-1 hurts more than you know". my mistake :P
anyways, when i monk in pvp, i heal on my low set (45 energy), and when times get sketchy (which is rare, but does happen from time to time), i switch to my normal energy set (57 energy), and rarely... and my god i mean RARELY (in my entire GW career of 24+ months, i've had to use my high set MAYBE 5-7 times), if the other team was so good to the point where they absolutely force me to switch to my high set (74 energy), THEN that is when +15/-1 has it's uses.

Goodness gracious me - such debate on a partial quote taken out of context
I specifically said a high energy set should be considered for a MB bar in HM.........

Thank you for all the replies and advice.
Using your replies I'll be using the wand mentioned below as Kit 1 and Kit 2 is Magmus' Staff http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Magmus%27_Staff (cost me 2K good deal?)
Last question on weapon sets but I'll don my nomex suit first.
My current 2ndry is Necro I do have a necro elite but don't use it.
I just started playing EotN and the reward for my next match is brass knuckles with a 7 dagg req.
Since I don't use my 2nd proff now should I switch it to Assassin so if I fight Dwarven missions I can put all my points in dagger and use the upgraded knuckles?

If you want to play Assassin, make an Assassin.
Elementalists aren't made for hand-to-hand combat.

You HAVE to fight bare knuckled.
You get regular brass knuckles but after 3-4 wins you earn a special pair to use.
I would only use them on missions where I HAVE to fight hand-to-hand.

You HAVE to fight bare knuckled. You don't need Assassin secondary, and you don't even get Assassin skills when you do fight bare-knuckled. Kilroy's quests are a very small part of Eye of the North and do not reflect normal, mainstream PvE.

for a fire ele:
Run a 20/20 wand and 20/20 offhand
Run an Adept (HCT fire spells 20%), aptitude not attitude (HCT fire 20%) and enchanting staff (Dual fast cast mods on staff)
Run a shield/spear set for +health, which is generally needed when your hero monks are low on energy and you need that +60hp to keep you alive.
Run dual +15e/-1 regen wand and offhand set, for bigger energy pool. Just remember to switch down again between casts
Also, if you're running some non-fire skills like bflash, rebirth, etc... you should probably have a 40/40 set for that attribute as well

You should never be monking in PvP with radiants, but this is the ele forum so nothing more will be said.
On Topic: there are a couple collectors in the desert and southern shiverpeaks that have the 20/20 wand and offhand in fire magic thats relatively easily attainable.

The wand is only 20% HSR, no HCT mod

oh, ick. (sorry been a while since I went after that item and no guildwiki at work. stupid netware crap)
In that case, get one of the greens from beating eotn or craft one at vasburg/leviathan pits from the weapons crafter.
