When Using Ursan As An Ele Should I Wield A Melee Weapon?

I have just gained the Ursan Blessing skill on my Elementalist & noticed that the majority of it is melee based. Due to this, do you advise using a melee weapon & shield as opposed to a staff when using this skill? Also, does the melee weapon need to have any specific upgrades or can it just be a basic 15^50, 20/20, +30 with the shield being -5/20, +30?

If so, do you also recommend going Warrior secondary so I can spend attribute points on swordsmanship/axe mastery etc?

Thanks a lot, I'd be glad to hear people's opinions.

15^50 Zealous Axe of Fortitude would be optimal, with any shield you happen to have (I'm cringing at the thought of anything but the ever so precious +10AL vs X set, but hey, it's Ursan, so whatever). Warrior secondary for Axe Mastery is cool too. Your equipment really doesn't matter though, because again, it's Ursan. Nothing matters with Ursan.

Swords are dumb in PvE unless it's Dragon Slash.

As an ele when I use ursan I take a warrior secondary. I use an axe (sword should work just as good) with a +5 energy insc a zealous prefix and a fortitude suffix. The sheild I just use the only tactics based sheild I have but Id recomend the +30 for that also.
attributes youd want
12 energy storage (so you can have energy to keep it up long term and withstand some energy denile)
9 axe (or sword depending on which you use) to meet the req on it
9 tactics to meet req on the sheild

For attributes you should probably run 8+1 in 3 elements to reap +15 armor from Prismatic Insignia, then 8 into a shield attribute for another +16 armor, and 9 into weapon mastery, with 2 into energy storage.

You don't really need high energy storage, just bring a +42/-2 energy set for between battles. In battles you shouldn't have problems getting energy back to full.

9 tactics to meet req on the sheild I'd do the same, cept have 12 axe/sword, 9-10 energy, 8-9 tactics (depending on your shield). You aren't going to run out of energy with ursan even at 9-10 energy storage, which is why I opt for a little extra damage with weapons. The prismatic idea would work too, but I take little damage as is for ursan, so I just want biggest damage output.

Run full prismatic insignia's with 8 in all elemental attributes + minor rune, along with 9 in a shield attribute.

The best shields will have +10 vs element, and you will use a different one for each enemy.

For the weapon it really doesn't matter a heck of a lot, +armor and +health is nice though. zealous can help with emanagement, but you shouldn't need it if you just keep using the ursan skills right. Don't bother putting anything in the weapon attribute, its not there for damage.

With this setup you can get 131 armor vs a selected attack type and 115 universal, more then enough to reduce just about everything into single digits.

I'd recommend a zealous sword with a +15/-1 energy set for an ele. I use Murakai's Blade and Snapjaw's powerstone which works fine for me
