A 'Player Info' Panel
Shiing!
Hey all
Alright, I'll explain the situation first.
Basically, we were in Jade Flats waiting to get an Ele to complete our team of 8 for FFF last night. Someone in AC said they were coming on their Ele and told us to invite them when there.
Then, when it came down to it, their character name was obviously different and we had no idea who it was.
This is just one example of not knowing the other character names and other details about a given character, so I thought, and others from my guild agreed, that we could have a Player Info panel.
Like the 'Trade' button, you could click it and it will bring up various information about the player; things such as their current ping, other character names, maybe the titles they have? And any other stuff that could be relevant. Maybe a description on that panel typed by the character about them?
It could even say where you are and the panel be accessible from the Friends list or Guild list so you can meet up with your guildies easily by knowing where they are.
Obviously there should also be the option to hide player stats, if you would like some privacy.
I just think this will add more of a 'personal' factor by allowing you to show off the things you have and allow people to know a bit about yourself.
Let me know what you think

If they were in your alliance then all you would have to do is look for an ele with a gold guild name.
Shiing!
Lol. I'm from the [any] alliance bud. At a given time, we have atleast 10 Ele's in the Jade Flats all obviously with gold names.
Forgetting my situation, I just reckon it'd add to the prestige and 'fun' side of the game, being able to see what other people are doing.

lol had not seen you were in [any].
Then I can see why the info panel would be useful.

Waste of anet's efforts. People will then complain about stalkers.
Shiing!
Stalkers? Lol.
I doubt it if it's used sensibly.
If you get stalkers, like I said, hide your info.

As long as it is customizable:
ID Card tab in options: (all options deactivated by default)
- Allow others to see your ID Card.
- Allow others to see your account name.
- Allow others to see all your character's names.
- Allow others to see your currently selected title.
- Allow others to see your account-wide titles.
- Allow others to see you character-based titles.
- Allow other to see your equipment skins.
- Allow other to see your equipment attributes.
- Allow other to see your current build.
- Allow other to see the numbers of unlocked skills you have for each profession.
- Allow other to see your currently selected heroes builds.
- Allow other to see your currently selected heroes equipment.
- Allow others to see your average ping.
- Allow others to see your average framerate.
- Etc.
There should be a limit for both views you can make per minute and view they can request you: "You have to wait 30 seconds to see another ID Card", "This Character's ID Card is being viewed by anoher character".

I see no reason why it would be bad for others to see other (lets say last played) character name. If they start offering up too much info though it would result in players on slow connections or without GWAMM (exagerated, but point stands) to be discriminated against when trying to get into a group.

Hell yeah to the list that Milthran said. Sounds good.
I just reckon this would be good for the community to see what other players are up to. But yeah, even if it was just the Alternate Character names, that would be enough.
Some other stuff could be:
- Skills they have in their bar currently
- XP
- Faction Information

A solution to the situation the OP discribed (needing to know alt. character's name) is already in place. It's called the "Friend's List."
As for the rest of it, it would be interesting to see what others in your party have done in GW. Getting to know people your playing with and what they like to do in GW is as simple as having a conversation with them, having them ping skill bars, or checking out what title they're displaying (a good ice breaker).
Also, this would also be just another way for elitists snobs to practice their craft.

Really, just think for a second, how many people really NEED this? How many people would this HELP? Probably about 50... and thats on the high end.
It's really a waste of time that could be better spent elsewhere imo.

does recently chat list show up in your N (friends) panel? if so this is not necessary, or just make it show up in your Friends panel,
the one thing i like to be able to know is other users ping (only if it does not slow down the game for players who ping and erm.. the pinger and the pingee. they yes
/not signed to players info
/signed. to have it appear in your recent chat in friends panel
/signed to know other players ping with above condition (because i suspect players who are lazy uses slow ping as excuse)

i can see it now...
"GLF Tank for FOW 7/8 PING MUST BE < 100 FPS!!!!"
/notsigned.
And yes, it would be nice to know which towns/maps my friends are currently on, but it would be a stalker's dream. "Hey that monk just ragequit on us!!!" "I'm gonna follow him from town to town for the next week and make sure he never gets into a pug!!!"
Sure the monk could find the info, but it may not be convenient. Perhaps he wants his friends to be to meet him easily, but not the stalkers.

This seems kinda creepy for me. To creepy.
I wouldn't mind seeing a button in like guild chat to see alternate names, but honestly, that's what your friends list is for.
