I believe the OP wanted to earn them through PvP.

If you're new to pvp id suggest AB or if you're adventurous RA.

If you mean Balthazar Faction, try out RA for a bit or possibly AB. You can also do the Zaishen Challenge or the training facilities for 2k faction a day.

If you mean Luxon/Kurzick, FFF or AB are the only real ways.

Kurzick/Luxon faction is a separate type of faction. You earn them through AB, FA ([wiki]Fort Aspenwood[/wiki]) or FFF (Fast Faction Farming). You can do a number of things with it. You can trade in 1,000 faction for amber or jade (for Kurzick and Luxon faction respectively), 3,000 to learn a special PvE only skill for your character, 1,000 for a free passage scroll to [wiki]Urgoz's Warren[/wiki] or [wiki]The Deep[/wiki] (Kurzick and Luxon respectively) or 5,000 to raise your alliance's reputation with that faction.

You also need to have 10,000 faction (unspent) on either side in order to progress in the Factions PvE campaign at a certain point. You will also get numerous quests that reward you with faction to help you reach the threshold.

I don't know much about fast faction farming, except that it's supposed to be fast (duh, right?), have a higher net faction gain than AB, and is one giant grind. The wiki article on it can explain it in more detail

By the way, if they're Balthazar points, they're used for unlocking equipment/skills for PvP characters.

Adding on to this, because this is something a lot of new players seem to mix up. Unlocking an item or a skill with Balthazar faction does not give you access to the item or skill for any of your PvE charcters. It says it in red text when you talk to a Priest of Balthazar, but a lot of people seem to just read over that. Technically skill trainers will let you buy any unlocked skill though, so you could unlock a skill that you normally wouldn't get til much later then buy it in Ascalon. However, it doesn't work this way with elite skills. You still have to go out and cap elite skills if you want them for your PvE character, even if you unlocked it with Balthazar faction.
