what's with getting titles?
afrika18
do titles do anything for you? Or are they just titles for vanity? Serious question.
pfaile
some are vanity, some have a benifit
N1ghtstalker
ya what he said
like
having Legendary Skill hunter has a benefit
wich?
you got loads of skills to choose from
but a title like the Gladiator Title track doesn't give a real benefit
it does show your experience 'n such
(k bad example sry)

Some titles help in specific ways. Others are just for show.
You have to look for the information on this page, but it mentions it here and there, look at sunspear for example.

Some of the titles in GWEN give you benefit in certain areas.
Covah
each title adds an inch to your epeen.
cosyfiep
some like light bringer, wisdom/treasure hunter and the eye titles help while others are purely cosmetic...and when you get one it counts towards another title---the kind of a big deal title---if you get to level 2 of this one (10 max titles) and have eye of the north a big bird that can be charmed will appear in your hall of monuments.....otherwise. nope no real value (other than its how anet is trying to keep our interest until gw2 comes out).
minaau
collecting loads of titles together so that we can get extra stuff in GW2 is my reason
Chilos
Status Symbol. nuff' said.
Racthoh
Gives me something to work towards instead of farming gold to play barbie.
enter_the_zone
Well, I'm vanquishing/Guardian because it's more fun than doing nothing or farming.
Uber Mass

If you're currently a fan of Guild Wars, and debating whether or not to "jump ship," as it were, to Guild Wars 2, the ArenaNet boys have included a little incentive for you, via the Hall of Monuments in the latest Guild Wars expansion, Eye of the North. It goes like this: when you accomplish something great in Guild Wars--maybe you finished a particularly gnarly quest--a monument is erected in honor of the event in the Hall of Monuments. The Hall carries over into Guild Wars 2, and all the greatness you achieved will still be on display, despite the fact that the action of the game takes place several hundred years after the first GW. This is about more than just bragging rights, though. Thanks to your efforts in GW, your character in GW2--the descendant of your GW character--will have access to exclusive titles, companions, pets, armor, and weapons. None of the unlockable content will give you a huge edge over other players, but it will provide you with a nice badge of honor that brands you as an Old School Guild Wars pro and personalizes the gameplay for you just that little bit more. Personally, I think something that nods to the old fans without screwing the new ones is a great idea.

Protector of Tyria, Cantha and Elona.
Tyrian, Canthan, Elonian and Legendary Skill Hunter.
Sunspear Max, Lightbringer Max
Kurzick Faction Max
I consider getting all 10 of these, as well as finishing Eye of the North, to be when I've done enough on one character.
I have five characters, so my goal is to have all of this done to each character before I officially say I'm done with Guild Wars (or until I feel like getting some other title.)
I have a set goal. Nothing more.

all you need is 20 max titles and a fully decked hall
StormDragonZ
20 Max Titles:
Triple Protector = 3
Triple Guardian = 6
The Quad Skill Hunter = 10
Sunspear/Lightbringer = 12
Party/Sweet/Drunk = 15
Triple Cartographer = 18
Any Two EotN Tracks* = 20
*: Deldrimor & Norn are my personal choices.

Depends on what you consider a benefit. Some titles have skills associated with them that benefit from the title rank (Sunspear, Lightbringer, Luxon/Kurzick, etc.). Some have passive benefits that increase salvaging and lockpicking chances.
Read the wiki info for complete breakdowns.
Cathode_Reborn
I only bother with titles linked to those imba pve skills. Anything else is a waste of time, imo.
When it comes to skill, you can probably say max KoaBD is equivalent to r3 hero

quad skill hunter?... EoTN does not count... still only 4 titles once you capped elona, tyria, and cantha
total is 11
cartographer is a another 4 fairly easy to get with two texmods (got elona in 15hrs)
that is your 15
max delver, vanguard, norn, and asura .... with books makes 4
all you need is one more title... i heard vanquishing cantha is easy
after that just deck out your hall with 20 minis 11 destroyer weps and 5 sets of 15k and your heros with armor... and you got yourself a maxed out hall without having to get 25 titles

I don't really display my titles unless they give me a boost in the area I'm in. I want to get SS/LB up for those skills, but I seriously doubt I'm going to get much farther than rank 7/8 in EotN rep.
I sometimes do titles for my own personal benefit, but I don't spend much time on them.

They are something to aim for.

Most of the replies you get will be from experienced players.
Being fairly new I might have a different point of view.
^^^^ QFT / End thread
When I saw there were "titles" I wanted one. I didn't care what it was.
What I've found is that if you play the game in a normal progression you will earn titles you can be proud to wear.
In other words, don't sweat it for now. Play the game, learn how to use your skills and before you know it you'll be an Explorer or Lightbringer ( for example ) .
One title displays that you've played the game and not just skipped ahead while the other will bring in game benefits but can be had "earlier" than otherwise obtained.
Personally I'm playing EotN all weekend trying to earn all the titles I can. Not so much to have the title, but to have access to buying Norm armour etc.
When it comes to the "game" I value my Adept Lightbringer (2) title over anything else because it's what will help me complete the campaign. (I think / hope )
Some titles you will see are simply "grind" / "e-bay gold" / have everything else buy "sweets / fireworks / alcohol " titles.
^^^^^^^ probably the best answer IMHO

Nanood
When i have nothing else to play for I shall play for titles !
crazybanshee
Well, I'm the kind of nerd who plays the heck out of games, even going back and replaying them in harder mode, to get the most out of them. Titles give me the ability to do that on a grander scale, not like a 'look at my title and bow before me' kinda thing, but a full and complete playing of every aspect. Sure, some of the titles are boring grinds, but there is a sense of accomplishment when you've finally finished it. Not everyone wants to get titles, that's fine too. But just because someone has a lot of titles it doesn't mean they're doing it for ego.

Though what I have found is that just "playing the game" will get you the vast majority of titles. My main title hunter is a Dervish and, as such, is barely over a year old - I think I have around 500 hours on her (maybe closer to 600, not sure) and have quite a number of titles either maxed or near max - in less than 40 hours of concentrated play I could easily be rank 3 KOABD (more than likely it will take me longer than that because I do not enjoy "concentrated play"). Realize that many people with a large amount of titles have thousands of hours on a *single* character. Mostly I just play the game and take advantage of weekend bonuses (such as this one - time to complete any HM missions/dungeons I haven't done and do some snowman farming).
As for displaying titles - obviously I display any that give me an actual advantage when needed, that should really go without question. As for personally being "proud" and what I display when there is no advantage to be gained I would say my protector titles as they were all H/H and some purely henched - that is done the hard way

It's good to have a goal to work towards and you feel you have accomplished something when you complete it. Titles can also be fun

Rue The Day
I think crazybanshee pretty much covered it for me too. It's not so much about a show off thing, more a goal to complete kind of thing. They keep me interested and going while we wait for GW2. It is satisfying to complete a title, and it gives me something to work at. I have a character that currently has many leather-bound books and I'll keep on going until i've maxed as many titles as I can manage. I like having something to keep working on when I've done everything else.
