Complete Newbie

I have played before infact i think i have posted questions here before i can't remember. I played a little back in early 2007 mainly in pvp and now i've come back but i want to do some PVE content.

I looked at the FAQ section of this forum but i didn't see the answer i was looking for. Well i have leveled a Ritualist to level 20 with a wiki build called WoQ support ritualist. Imo this doesn't seem to be that helpful. I keep WoQ up on my healer henchies and a lot of times we still seem to die pretty easy. I put my warmongers and splinter on my warrior hero that seems to be pretty good. My WoQ support isn't my style or i just suck i don't know. I love the way the ritualist look and all and i figured being that sort of support would help get a group but i don't really see many people asking for groups for things except for extremely hard missions like gate of madness O_o. Should i reroll something else?

Also for a person who has just started pve i can't even afford my highest armor much less runes for me and my heros and with the gold being split between 8 people even if 7 of them are computers that's barely anything at all. Should i have looked up a farming build for my first character? Also when i find stuff i don't really know what will sell as far as the mods go. I don't know how to tell if something is "perfect" or what mods will actually sell. I hear insightful staff heads might sell for a little bit. I see people listing stuff that say 15^50 or 20/20 i don't know what that means can someone please explain or direct me to a sight that explains those type of things.

This will tell you all the modifications you can put on weapons and what a perfect ones stats are.


Only worry about runeing out yourself if you can't afford to do you heroes at this time. As you do quests and play through the storyline you will get money for max armor. Just get the cheap armor. You don't need the most exspensive set. Just the set with the highest AL your class can use.

2nd Edit: Do missions and get in groups going for the masters reward. You get the most gold possible upon completion of the mission when it is completed in masters. Even if it is only a couple hundred more it is worth it when you need a little bit extra cash. well it seems you've already been to guildwiki....my advice is to go back there to get items explained and builds and such(btw the build site pvx others have listed is linked too from guildwiki) that sites been around longer and personally i like it better.

Thanks a lot for all the info, i will read all the sites and see what all i can learn. That staff is way better than the one im using. I got mine from a weapon guy because i thought getting a better weapon would be better than upgrading my armor since im always in the backline ( which was a mistake lol) the weapon doesn't do hardly any damage like 6-9 unless the mob is way below my level.

AI is programmed to go for the guy with lowest armor in the aggro bubble. Unless they are stuck they will head for you 99% of the time.

if you have NF and have beaten the game, which i'm assuming since you're lvl 20 and have heroes, a good easy farm is the desolation wurm farming. it's commonly called the sunspear/lightbringer (SS/LB) point farm. a full run in hard mode takes about 20 minutes and i could usually make anywhere from 2-5k per run after i sold everything to the merchant. not only that but you can also pick up some decent gold weapons with good mods that can be sold in game to players for good cash or that you can keep for yourself and your heroes. when you're in the wurm, you're practically indestructible and you can make the run with just yourself and 4 heroes/henchies. the first link is a guide on using the wurm and the challenge mission for remains of sahlahja (however you spell it). you can ignore the advice on the challenge mission and just use the link for advice on using your wurm. the second link is for pointers on the SS/LB run itself.

If you don't have NF and you got your heroes from GWEN you may want to do some dungeons in order to get loot from the end chests to sell or use for yourself.

Personally I'm not much of a support player - never really been very good at it - but it seems as if you need to also focus on the non-healers in your party. Rarely is recharge the big issue in a GW monk healing but is a HUGE difference in the damage dealers. While healing is nice and needed, dead enemies don't do damage (point being made is do not focus on only one single aspect as the game is designed around balancing both aspects). That may help, it may not.

For just that issue? No - that is simply because most PUG's suck and the H/H are MUCH better. For the harder missions people are willing to go through many horrid groups for that one group that just meshes.

You should only be worrying with yourself, the game (even Nightfall) is balanced around completing with the hench - they have no runes, terrible armor, and terrible weapons. As such you should *only* spend when you have the gold and only on the ones you use the most.

As a caster your weapon is primarily used for it's mods, not it's damage. Worry with energy given, cast/recharge times, and things like armor bonuses and health bonuses.

I haven't beat the game i've only gotten to the gate of madness which is were i am stuck. Shiro is the devil. I get him to about 20% then he goes on a rampage and kills everyone in my party -.- I still decided to run through with the worms though and i still made a decent ammount of money and even got a few purples. Hopefully tomorrow ill be able to try hardmode if i can get through this gate of madness. I read somewhere that mission is probably one of the hardest in the entire game.


You know i never really though about using WoQ on the dmg dealers i was just so focused on the healers lol.

Don't think you should reroll your current character but you should certainly use the other character slots.

Even if you just do the start island missions it will give you access to the couple of reusable treasure chests that drop gold items and recharge monthly.
That's 2 chests per character per month get further into nightfall and there are more chests.

Once you get to the wurm missions you can easily aquire gold without too much effort, certainly enough to equip with armour weapons and skills.

At least these will equip your heroes or can be sold, also doing the missions with the other characters will boost gold which you can use on the prime character/team.

If you have factions as well you can jump across to there and do the easy kaining center missions this is a great way to level up heroes as 2k to 3k missions abound.

Hmm i don't think i noticed anything like that while leveling up other than the chest that require zone specific keys and those hardly ever seemed to drop orange. They mostly had purples.

I was however considering making a new character. I've been looking at all the different builds at the pvx site. I was thinking about trying a "55 Monk" also since all skills require prophecies that will give me a chance to see that story line. Probably won't beat it either though because i like Nightfall heros more than henchmen. That's also why i left factions with my ritualist. Considering where the elite spell and where blessed signet is im guessing i'd have to be pretty far into the game to be able to be a full 55 monk.

Since that will be so close to the end how should i level. There's really no "use this for leveling" guides on the wiki's that i've found. I was thinking either all smiting or would healing be better for me.

Ill most likely keep farming with those worms for a while so that i can afford the kind of stuff i need to be a 55 monk.

There are treasure chests and buried treasure etc all over nightfall these need no keys at all and as I say they recharge after a month or so.

Some say they drop purples after a while if overused, have opened mine quite a few times so far and it hasn't happened yet.

As people have suggested, visit one of the wikis to find out what mods are available. Also visit the buy/sell forums on here (Ventari's Corner) and the Guru Auction site to get an idea of what things are worth.

15^50 is shorthand for "Damage +15% while health is above 50%" which is a "base mod" or inscription.

20/20 is shorthand for "Armor penetration +20% (Chance 20%)" - Sundering.

There are places/sites that will define the "lingo" but I'm not sure where at the moment.

If you don't like doing a support rit, don't. Ritualists are incredibly versatile. My personal favourite use is as a minion master, with max spawining power, [skill]Explosive Growth[/skill], [skill]Boon of creation[/skill] and [skill]Animate Bone Minions[/skill]. Sometimes I also go as a splinter barrager (using the ranger elite Barrage, using runes to max channeling for maximum effectiveness with
[skill]Splinter Weapon[/skill]
