Vanquishing Question/Advice

I have only vanquished a couple of areas, but I find one of the most time-consuming aspects to it is just finding all of the mobs in a given area.

As an example, I cleared out North Kryta Province the other day almost totally but was having a terrible time finding the last couple of guys, including the Caromi Tengu boss Nav Sharpquill, as it turned out. I finally found him located off in a "side pocket" of the region.

My question for people who have done a lot of vanquishing is this:

How do you manage to find everything you're supposed to kill?

I must have run around that entire, cleared region a couple of times before those last couple of red dots showed up on my "radar," which was pretty frustrating.

I am just wondering if there are any good systems people might have for making sure you cover an entire area.

I guess at the end of the day it calls for being thorough in your searching. I generally like to pick a wall and follow it around, and then clean up any voids I may have missed in the middle of the map. I am sure there are more effective ways, but this system has served me well.

The only caveat would be if you know an area of the map has pop-ups. In that case, I tend to avoid it at all costs, saving the area for last.

On the same vein...how do you know when you have vanquished all of the mobs in an area? Are you notified etc.? Thanks.

Think about the route you take - it's not 100%, but usually works - and yes, you get notified when you've killed'em all.

I found it easiest with my mini map open all the time and moved to the middle lsft of my screen(widescreen) You can see where youve been and aint been that way. Also as Reaper suggested - do the outside first, then the voids in the middle.

Good Luck.

Usurp, when you finish the game you will have the option for hardmode. When you are in the explorable area, in hardmode, there is a red helmet icon in the top left of the screen with a small number (# of kills) and a progress bar.

Ive found that if there is one pop-up missing, and you happen to be with a real person group, split up everyone in all directions. When a guy gets dead, youve found him. If you are Hero/Henching it, then do the outskirts, then the back and forth lawn mow the area.

Thanks. I generally go right (hugging the right wall, as it were), and then move counterclockwise through a region in ever-decreasing circles. Usually that works out OK, but sometimes it's easy to miss some little side area or cave or something.

If nothing else, I have gained new appreciation for just how intricate and detailed these regions can be . You sure don't notice all that's actually there if you just play through the primary quests, even if you do a lot of the secondary quests.

I cut the area into sections. I do an entire section then move on to the next one. Usually 2 sections for smaller area 4 for larger.

Or if I need to catrograph the area I will clear the edges out while I scrape. Then i clear the middle out.

Edit: Go to wiki and look at a cleared out map of the section so you can tell where the little passages and places that are easy to miss are

i follow the outer border of the area then work my way in, lookin at maps on wiki for mob patrols and such, vanquish and explore titles both at once.

I was going to suggest the same thing. It takes a lot longer than just a vanquish, however, it saves you time in the end. Hug the walls and kill everything in your map, and then circle back again. I also like bringing at least one running skill that will allow you faster travel. Vanquishing suck when you can't find that one mob... or one person that travels all over the place.

If i'm having trouble finding that last group, i pull up the big map of the region and see if there are any fairly large areas that my trail doesn't cut across or pathways i may have missed, those are the first places i check. I also start out by scraping the borders of the region though.

I just tend to hug the wall and work my way round, I find that I am missing one or two mobs much more often in Tyria than when I vanquished Elona or Cantha.

I'd agree with these guys. Work ya way around the outskirts of the zone then fill in the middle.

Yep, do the perimeter first and work your way to the center. In the case of patrols, spread out and look that way. When I'm H/Hing, I'll send my henchies out in different directions, paying close attention to where I send them. When one dies, I know where the mob is
