My accounts been banned but for what ?
Samscwamch
Recently my account was banned for an "inappropriate" name (King Of Skeet) i don't understand how thats offensive but i have been ordered to change the name and i am not prepared to do so because i don't want to loose my customized things on that character.
I sent in a support question and this is what i got as an answer
"Hello,
Thank you for contacting the Guild Wars Support Team.
Characters are blocked if they are found to be using an offensive or inappropriate name. In order for us to serve the Guild Wars community promptly and in a meaningful manner, we do not send warnings nor engage in lengthy dialogues about offensive names. We work as a team on this matter, and discuss name concerns so as to monitor that the action taken is appropriate and fair. We block those names that are found to be unquestionably offensive or inappropriate. Warnings are time-consuming and almost always somewhat pointless. The sorts of names we block are those that the user would or should, via the User Agreement and the Rules of Conduct, be aware would be an inappropriate choice for Guild Wars. These include names that are racist, crudely sexual, culturally denigrating, or are of a generally socially unacceptable nature.
In short, character names are blocked when they are found to have a clear and certain level of unacceptability. While a player might desire to enter into an email exchange about the matter or may wish to appeal the decision, that is not a productive task for our Support Team. It is the best interests of the Guild Wars player community to have our Support Team serve the community by assisting players with issues that will be solved with more positive outcomes, or outcomes that serve the community as a whole in a more meaningful way.
After a period of suspension related to the inappropriate name, we allow players to change the character name or to the delete the character. A character deletion would naturally result in the loss of levels and items on that particular character.
We hope that you will show consideration for other players by selecting a name that is appropriate for Guild Wars. Please do be aware that the selection of an inappropriate name in the future would result in additional actions and extended account suspensions.
Regards,
The Guild Wars Support Team"
my opinion now of them is that they don't even read the character name, they just hand out bans randomly. This is absolutely ridiculous, i need help i basically demand my account to be unbanned but i don't know what to do other then what I've already done.

dargon
You won't loose your customized items, they aren't linked to your name, but rather a unique code assigned to every character in the game. They'll still say customized for King of Skeet, but whatever your new name is, you'll still be able to use them. As for why you've been asked, who knows, someone apparently found your name offensive and reported it as such and ANet agreed.
Unholy Tank V
I looked up the definition of Skeet and here is what I got:
1) a form of trapshooting in which two traps are used and targets are hurled singly or in pairs at varying elevations and speeds so as to simulate the angles of flight taken by game birds.
2) a hand consisting of a nine, five, two, and two other cards of denominations below nine but not of the same denomination, being of special value in certain games.
3) to spit (saliva or a mouthful of other liquid) from the mouth, esp. between the teeth.
to splash; spray: Skeet some cold water on your face to cool off.
Edit: Heh I just looked it up on dictionary.com, gota go check to see if any of my characters names have meanings I don't know about -_-

Just to save you a lot of bother, may I suggest that you do a Google search as to the meaning of the second part of your name? I just did (hence I wont repeat it) and sorry, but it is VERY offensive. Sure it also has a lot of innocent meanings as well, but it's the one offensive meaning that will do it every time.
As to not changing your name because of it effecting your been able to use your customised items, to my understanding it wont. Customised items aren't recognised solely by character name, but rather by a 'code' stored in the database generated at time of character creation, which is why you can't put your stuff into storage, delete your original character, then create a new one with the same name and use the old stuff.
I'm probably gonna be just the first to suggest that you just change your name once your ban ends, otherwise ANet will just change it for you anyway whether you like it or not.

Well King of Skeet was my first character, and i use dictionary.com to think of a fitting name, like Unholy said its a form of trapshooting, I am a Ranger i found this very fitting, and honestly i didn't find out about urban dictionary till about an hour ago when i asked him what was offensive in my name.
But regardless this is a ridiculously stupid and unfair reason to ban me. And i sent them the following response in my defense
"Thank you for totally mis regarding my issue, i have been wrongly suspended and you choose to ignore it. I want something to be done about this, that is why i have made this, you have provided no details as even if to what is offensive in my character name, i assure you there is no deragoitiory slander in my names, and if the character name is offensive please do tell me why, because i made that character by putting thought into my name and i am NOT prepared to do anything about it. This is again an unfair ban, look into it,if anything."

i don't like rap so I've probably never heard of him, but still this is so unfair.

You will be able to log in again in a few days and be forced to change your character's name.
Honestly, this is NOT an unfair ban. It is a very appropriate ban. That word has very well known meaning for anyone between the ages of 14-25. I don't listen to rap, but I know what that word means. I guarantee you that 7 out of 10 Americans in that age group knows what it means too. A.net doesn't "know" that you didn't know the meaning of the word. Neither did the guy who reported you.
request /close, nothing we can done to help you here

WOW! I agree A-Net has hit a whole new low here. Skeet...I knew about skeet shooting - the little round things that you through thru the air and shoot at with a shot gun, riffle, oozie etc... but the rest i have never heard of...guess i need to get out more.
I too have a ranger with a iffie name...but i named it after the "Brand Name" of the bow I use... Browning Bushmaster. Most people would not think about it too much, but unfortionatly for all of us, there are those KIDS out there that have a very warped way of thinking, and all they want to do is cause trouble for others. My ranger is 2 years old. I wonder how soon it will be before I find myself in the same boat.

I think this is an unfair ban, because GW is banning people based on stupid Slang, that will be forgotten in a a couple years.
what if i named my new char "Sit on it" (quote from Happy days , lol) , would i get banned?

Words have connotations. Language is not defined by a dictionary. Language evolves to the usage of the people. If everybody started calling a laptop computer a "lappy," then that is what that word would mean.
You should have done your research and looked into it rather then just randomly picking a word out of a dictionary. If you had just done a google search, you would have immidately found out why this word was a bad idea. You didn't do your research, and you paid the price accordingly.

Well if GW is going to continue to ban names based in silly english slang, then too bad for the huge % of players that speak english as a 2nd / 3rd language. Just like OP, i can see them using literal terms that may meen somthing "bad" in english society.

Any word can have sexual/inappropriate connotations, if you imply something. The fact that the word chosen is so uncommonly used in its formal definiton makes the ban justifiable.

Siirius Black
Besides, I think the OP has made clear that his intention is not to change his name. Unfortunately, you will either be banned again, or they will change the name to whatever they want.
I just hope Siirius Black is not considered offensive by anyone, I'm just a real fan of Harry Potter

(yes I know, Siirius should be with one i, but as you know we can't change names)

I agree that this name is a stretch for consideration of a ban.
I didn't know about the alternative meaning of skeet. Then again, I'm 33 and 100% skipped the "Rap" bastardization of the english language.
Skeet has always been to shoot clay pigeons usually with a shotgun/rifle.

It's kind of funny, but i have met many asian teens (exchange students), whom are fairly new to english culture, and they speak more dirty than the average rapper.
Well thats exaggerating, but they do mix in "Slang terms" in their casual every-day speaking, and not know it.
It is not their fault for using a word that by true definition is not bad, but OUR fault for interpreting it as bad, due to our tainted ears from (c)rap music.
(rock ftw)

English varies so much between cultures. I remember Celestial Beaver saying his account was temporarily banned and he had to change the 'inappropriate' character's name (sorry for casting this up).
A beaver, where we live, is a river-dwelling rural vole-like animal. In America it is a colloquial term for female genitalia.
ANet have the final say, I guess. After all, English did originate in America - just like Jesus.

Same here. I had an assassin named 'Ebony Blizzard', and a kid my age told me that I was a pervert for using a character name as a type of porno.
Stupid yes, so I deleted that character.
You just have to suck it up and live on with life. Sorry for your loss of your VIRTUAL character. Here's a list of steps to take:
1. Go outside
2. Get in the car
3. Drive to nearby gaming store
4. Purchase a Guild Wars campaign
5. Drive back home
6. Go to computer;unpack the Guild Wars CD
7. Download the game
8. Make a character
9. Join the same guild as before
10. Your happy again XD

Astro Pubes
bro, don't worry about it too much, i had my ranger Astro Pubes for 32 months before i was banned and forced to change names. not only that but like 4 other of my characters were named various meanings of the skies and pubes. some jackhole decided that pubes was offensive and reported me. yet the only one who would be offended by that would be someone who hasn't grown their own yet and was just jealous. hell, i don't even bother to play this game anymore anet has indeed sunk to new low levels with their retarded bans, all i can say is f'em.

It is a slippery slope, and while this is truly the first Time I've been surprised by a name ban, this is ultimately their game.
Change your name to King of Trap. Means almost the same thing in a non-sexual way. Far as I know trap shooting isn't sexually offensive yet. But that may change yet as I think "trap" can be considered a vague reference of female genitalia.

Umm OP was angry because he didnt know about the "slang term" of skeet.
LOL, but your name, i don't know any other meaning than genital hair for that.
Meh, maybe one day my name will mean somthing stupid like "ball of shit stuck to your leg" xD.
you've got a freaking big kerpall hanging on ur leg buddy @ team showers after practise.

other meanings of the word pube/pubes is a person who's an idiot, or lame
and that.. which was never the intention of the name. but i did abuse it after i realized it wasn't in their filter. honestly, if anet wants to ban for retarded names they should add those words to their filters and auto-ban everyone with the name. many times i've met people in game with the name pubes.
if only anet knew what astro means

Astro definition 2.
