Fortitude vs Shelter vs Warding
Emo Panda
What do you think would be the best on a bow?
Darkobra
Probably either fortitude or shelter. A ranger has plenty of elemental defence.

Depends also on area you're in.
But for overall, I'd have to go for Fortitude.
HP is very important, and with some monsters,
physical damage is converted to holy or shadow.
Also, let a Hero, or yourself, since you're ranger?, take Greater Conflagration + Winter, and you have +30 armor against almost everything.
(inherent Ranger armor bonus.)

Each has their time in the light. HP is more universal, but the armor actually prevents more damage then the HP amount.

Well like they said it all depends, as for me i carry 3 recurves on pvp ea identical for the situation cept the grips. Say im taking too much melee dmg then i switch out to +7 armor vs physical, if im taking degen then i use fortitude if by some rare chance im actually being pressured by a nuker then i use the +7 vs ele dmg.

Well I dont play ranger as much as paragon, but my opinion stays th same
Even tho its slow finding them, I mod all my gold spears with +5AL... except my zealous (ursan) spear, then i just tack on hte typical hp
As a ranged char I figure its better this way.

fortitude out of those three. but i would take of defense. +5 unconditional extra armor is better than +7 conditional armor.
