Okay, so I just got NF. Now I got a question

I have been playing a very short time on Guild Wars, and a few friends have been pushing me and pushing me to get NF, as it is the only Exspansion I don't own.

So, I finally quit procrastinating and got it today. Now, my question is, does anyone have any ideas on which profession to choose? Derv or Paragon?

My friends tell me Derv, but what are you guy's (and gal's) opinions?

Dervs have nice looks and all but for actual functionality go with para. Great dmg and support in one package. I have one of each though ;D

Hmm, well how about Derv as primary, for kick ass scythes... and Paragon for my secondary? I see quite a few D/P s in the game as it is....

But either way....

Just saying...

If you want to experiment with both then make a P/D so you aren't entirely disappointed. It least when you figure out Dervishes are lame you still have Paragon available to make uber-leets.

This is what I do whenever I want to try out a new class. Go on PvP and just make a D/P and test it out and see if you like it. I know it's not the best way to see if they are good but it's definetly worth a try.

What play style do you prefer? As a derv you'll be up front dealing out the hurt. As a paragon you sit back from the action and support the party instead.

Dervs are basically like Warriors, but deal a lot more damage and hurt adjacent foes with their attacks. They also use lots of enchantments that can cause cool effects such as damaging foes and then recharging skills when it ends. Most of playing as a dervish involves that - casting enchantments and ending them when the timing is right. Some random dervish skills:

[skill]Heart of Holy Flame[/skill][skill]Signet of Pious Light[/skill][skill]Avatar of Melandru[/skill][skill]Eternal Aura[/skill]

The paragon, I don't have one, I hear they have some godly builds, but the males all wear skirts in their armor (lol) and they're basically warriors with a TINY bit of range. Dervishes are also basically warriors, but seem more unique.

Is that instead of the Male Dervs wearing full-on Dresses?

Actually there is one armor in Eye of the North that has pants.

Uh-oh. I sense some drama between the Dervs and the Paragons.

paragons > dervs. all you need to know. The idea of using enchants to deal dmg is fun at first, but wears thin quite fast. paragons spreading partywide buffs and still being able to deal decent damage, still has not gotten old.

I have both classes.. I still consider my Dervish the "main"... but I am using other classes more often now. Paragon is very fun in PvP (well.. AB -_-, not really pvp) but they are supposedly "BOOMHEADSHOT" in PvE if played right.

Maybe make one of each and see how you feel about it... and delete accordingly. Have fun!

I have to say dervish are a LOT of fun, sure they aren't as "powerful" as paragons, they are still really fun to play with, which is more important in the game.

O BTW if you chose paragon, for the sake of all that is good, make is a FEMALE gender. You will be doing GW a favor.

Thanks guys, I think I will stick with the Derv for a bit.

I will more or less try out the Paragon soon. :P

im guna be fairly biased here when i say PLAY A DERVISH!!!!!! i love the dervish class, its awesome fun. also i like how u can speck more towards defense and still be really strong for both pve and pvp. The high base damage of scythes means u really only need ur main attack and say 2 scythe moves in order to deal nice damage, then u just make all your other moves defensive and well ur going to be handy to any group. well thats how i play it, but lots of people spec all attack and have heaps of fun. my point is theres a heap of variety when it comes to playing the class, but the main reason i picked dervish over paragon is because paragons just look god awful where as dervishes look awesome. so in the end, both classes are really good so it just comes down to wether u can stomach looking at a mini skirt on a man for hours on end in order to use a particular playing style.

I think it really depends on you play style....I cant get the hang of the dervish, but then again I wasnt able to master the sin either....took me a while to get the reigns on the rit and I am still working thru my spear stage with my paragon....
so it all just depends.
