Is it worth the $5 to upgrade to GOTY edition?

I currently have the original GW, and Factions, but it's been awhile since I have played, so I started another new character. I noticed on the in-game store, that for $5 you can get the weapons from the GOTY edition. Just kinda curious if anyone got this or not, and if it is worth it at all.

Thanks for any info, it is appreciated.

I did so that I would have whatever weapons it gave available for outfitting my heros because I am cheap. Same for the NF or GWEN preorder (can't remember).

Well.. it gets u seven bonus weapons customized to your characters.

Tiger's Roar (Elementalist Focus Item)
Poisonous Nevermore Flatbow (Ranger Bow)
Sundering Rhino's Charge (Warrior Hammer)
Serrated Shield (Warrior Shield)
Wolf's Favor (Monk Focus Item)
Luminescent Scepter (Mesmer Wand)
Insightful Soul Shrieker (Necromancer Staff)

You can get these as much times as u want on each character with the /bonus command.

is it worth the money? well.. imo it is if u like cheap stuff on your heroes, but it's not something i would use on my characters. I think it's worth the $5.

I liked it. I used the weapons to gear up heroes(I have 10 pve characters each with a full "stable", untill you start going into HM and getting decent stuff from chests and drops it's nice and convenient to be able to gear up a hero for 'free') and used the weapons themselves untill I found better(I still haven't found a shield better statwise then the serrated...). The Serrated Shield is just stylish, it has max, decent stats and never really goes obsolete. The Nevermore Flatbow is a good weapon too(you can stick a bowgrip on it), I use it to farm Behemoths for totem axes, and if you can adjust for the high arc with RTW or FW it's a good bow to spread poison. If you put a Grip on the Rino's Charge you have a decent hammer that shares it stats with most green hammers. I could take or leave the wolf's favor or tiger's roar or the soul shrieker (though if you got the build for it 20% HCT in 2 attributes is nice, but you lose the HSR or bonus health) but my favorite is the Luminescent Scepter, it's the prettiest mesmer wand in the game IMO, has strong stats, it's just shiny....

So if you're a ranger, warrior or mesmer or have a lot of heroes go for it.

They're all quite nice, even at the start when you don't have the attributes to take full advantage of the damage or energy they provide - a Ranger doing 10-20 at the start with the Poisonous Nevermore Flatbow is far more potent than one who's doing the normal 4 or 5 damage, for example. Obviously it gets way better once you get Apply Poison and 9 Marksmanship.

Sadly, only Warriors and Rangers really benefit, at least at the start.

Serrated Shield is the only useful thing there.

Pretty useful for heroes - most people are cheapos and only give their most used heroes good equipment, well say no more because with this you can be a cheapo AND be generous! Quick equipping for MOST heroes.

I got it, but rarely use the items since most ingame ones are better ---though for starting out its nice to have a max weapon at your disposal....I think I MAY still have a koss with the shield and I know one of my olias' became attached to the soul shrieker.....

I'd rather blow the other $5 and get the BMP and get unlimited free hero weapons that are both better looking and fully modifiable.

I've got the GOTY, but only because it's what I bought in the first place. The only two items that ever see any play is the Serrated Shield and the Wolf's Favor. Everything else is only good for the times when you've just unlocked a hero in Nightfall, you need him for the next mission, and you're too damn lazy to run a BMP or grab something from the chest/mule.

BMP weapons aren't unlimited.

I got it and used to to quickly kit out all my heroes with half decent weapons which I've replaced over time with greens and golds, but still use them for new characters, and Pre Searing.

You can keep getting BMP weapons if you redo the story quest. So you can have unlimited supllies but they just require some work to get more.

They're definitely unlimited. Limited would mean there's a fixed number of weapons available per account or character, and there is not.

I can run the Gwen's Story mission in about seven minutes for a max gold r9 weapon of my choice AND earn 500 gold in the process. Heck, it takes me nearly that long just to trash all the other bonus junk other than the one item I wanted that shows up when I spawn them

I'd only get it if you have heroes to equip. If you do, don't think twice. That said however, $5 isn't a crazy amount of money, so just spend it and find out for yourself.

Depends on your definition of 'starting out' is, I suppose. My main character, a W/R, is kicking far more ass in the Northern Shiverpeaks (reached The Frost Gate last night) with the Sundering Rhino's Charge and Mighty Blow + Power Attack (plus For Great Justice and Berserk Stance) than he ever did with his puny Barbed Ascalon Razor of Charrslaying (against Charr or otherwise) and the standard Sever/Gash combo. (with which he used the Serrated Shield, but with the "Watch Yourself!" nerf, it's just not worth keeping Tactics up at 9 just for the shield)

starting out----level 2-6...pre-searing....noob island.....before LA....
my characters in pre searing liked having max damage weapons when they could NOT get to a storage (since there are none)....and when nightfall/factions came out having the bonus weapons was nice since no one had max damage daggers/scythes/spears yet (of course these came from the ce edition and not the goty one so I am moving away from the topic, but you get the idea).

Yes my level 8 ele likes her tigers roar since she got it in pre and even though didnt have the prerequisite could still get the energy from it.

Not all the Energy, though - only 3. Of course, that's all you're likely to have on a normal offhand at that point anyways. On the other hand, that early in the game you have pretty much no choice but to use Fire, so the 20% chance of halving Fire recharge times can be quite useful.
