nerf stuffed my build, help me with new 1
Azeren Wrathe
well it didn't exactly stuff my build, but the nerf to mystic regen has just made it less effective. anyway i made up this build awhile ago and have been using it ever since. ive found its awesome in both pve and pvp, letting me take multiple enemies and such while still dealing good damage. anyway with the nerf my health regen has gotten less and im dying more often (still not very often though) so i figured id show the build and see if any1 had some suggestions.
1: vital boon
2: heart of fury
3: mystic vigor
4: mystic regeneration
5: faithful intervention
6: chilling victory
7: dust cloak (for the long lasting enchant it gives)
8: avatar of balthazar
im more into the defensive kind of builds with a couple attack skills, i find the base damage of scythes makes up for the lack of attack skills, especialy when coupled with heart of fury (which is good for mystic vigor as well). anyway so if people could take into account my defense preferance then thatd be good. I still find this build heaps effective but if any1 knows something to make it better, well id love to hear it.

Mystic Regen is bad. Run a monk. Take it out and remove all your earth prayers skills. Bring more scythe attacks.
If you're a real pansy, then bring sig of pious light instead of mystic regen

A few posts down from this one on the dervish section you will find a thread called something like "dervish build thread". read that and find a build that suits you there. i'll tell you that everyone in the dervish forum is about to rip this build to shreds. you're main job as a derv is KILLING. bring a monk to heal you or bring two. you can do upwards of 100 dmg to 3 enemies with each swing of your scythe. designate more of your skills to killing and less to staying alive. maybe part of your problem is the superior rune youre using also. less health=quicker death. good luck.

Or you could, like, actually kill stuff. I hear it works far better than standing around like a two-legged brick.
fenix
Either leave it as is, and deal with the Mystic Regen change, or just drop the defense and go with offense. You don't need that much defense, really, just a monk

4 defensive/healing skills + Balthazar, this is a big no no.
Only one 10e attack skill: another no no.
Don't be a sissy, bring a decent monk and kill stuff mkay?
Try something like this :
Myst:12+1 Scythe: 12+1+1
[skill]Avatar of Melandru[/skill][skill]wearying strike[/skill][skill]mystic sweep[/skill][skill]eremite's attack[/skill][skill]heart of fury[/skill][skill]resurrection signet[/skill]+aura of holy might + eternal aura
or
Myst:12+1 Scythe: 12+1+1
[skill]Avatar of Lyssa[/skill][skill]protector's strike[/skill][skill]mystic sweep[/skill][skill]eremite's attack[/skill][skill]heart of fury[/skill][skill]resurrection signet[/skill]+aura of holy might + eternal aura
or even

[skill]wounding strike[/skill][skill]mystic sweep[/skill][skill]eremite's attack[/skill][skill]heart of fury[/skill][skill]mystic vigor[/skill][skill]resurrection signet[/skill][skill]rush[/skill]+aura of holy might

reason i never went pure attack is because whenever i fought people i tended to win or atleast draw. since i had no problem pvp i saw no reason to go all attack. anyway ill try some of the builds suggested and see if i prefer em, so thanks for the advice but not the "pansy" or "sissy" comments, seriously wtf is with that? just coz i play a different style to u doesn't mean u need to throw in some insults, just say u dont aggree with my playing style and offer some suggestions.

It's a great build for drawing, since it's 3/4 defensive :]
Dervishes seem to work best with at least three attack skills; lets you put out a decent spike, and melee classes do need some damage ability. Whether you're going to use defensive skills in addition is up to you, but if you're making the character to do little but sit there and soak up damage you might as well take an obsidian flesh tank. Or a warrior with Ursan Blessing, since that has more armor than an AoB dervish and usually has more damage output as well.
Still, if you want decent defense and HP recovery on a PvE character while getting somewhat better damage output than that you could try something like ...
[skill]Victorious Sweep[/skill][skill]Eremite's Attack[/skill][skill]Mystic Sweep[/skill][skill]Heart of Fury[/skill][skill]Conviction[/skill][skill]Avatar of Dwayna[/skill] + Eternal Aura + res signet or Mystic Vigor
For that, aim for 12+ scythe mastery, 12 mysticism and ~8-9 (whatever is reasonable) earth prayers... try to limit yourself to at most one major rune since you do still want to keep HP. A zealous scythe will be useful for keeping enough energy to use your attack skills as much as possible.
The HP return from that should be far more than you will realistically need... but hey, if you want to play it safe...

1v1 means nothing. Thinking your build is good because you can win/tie 1v1's is...kinda bad.

He has a point. Calling him sissy or pansy will make you look like an asshole, not help his gameplay. If that happens, GG making another sub-par player for the community.
As for the build, think of what each of the Avatars is for. Balthazar is for speed and attack. gives a nice armor buff and auto IAS, both great for killing stuff, not acting as a damage sponge. If you want to tank, get Melandru, which gives you immunity to conditions, extra HP, and gives you earth damage, nice if you aren't running a lot of attacks. Take Wild Blow and Wearying Strike, as you don't have to worry about weakness, and you can absorb damage and kill stuff. Dwayna is nice for getting all that HP with each skill you use, so you can load up on attack skills AND get a health buff. The Dwayna a few posts above would be great.
A Dervish is a Zealot warrior. Zealots are holy warriors. They fight with aggression and passion, not by sitting there and taking hits, but by bring the wrath of their gods onto their enemies. The Dervish skills are set up for that. You CAN tank with them. Hell, you can tank with any profession if you want to. It won't be near as effect, though, as doing what your profession was made to do. In this case, to kill multiple enemies with a big scythe.

Balthazar doesn't give IAS....it gives increased run speed and is probably the worst avatar to run in PVE and is not made for "killing stuff". I'm not sure why you even made that claim. How do any of Balthazar's bonuses help you kill anything?

The speed buff and warrior-strength armour allow a dervish to over-extend into the enemy backline and deal with kiting targets better...
Oh wait, PvE forum.
Balth fails @ PvE.
And in lower-end PvP (AB, RA) the bonuses off of Dwayna or Mel (hex/condition immunity) are infinitely more valuable.

I was just joking. If you felt offended I apologize.
Anyway, GW is a team game, it was not designed for 1vs1.

Sorry but i don't agree with this reason to use an elite slot. It's seeing play in GvG, so what's stopping your team bringing a few snares / speedboosts, if kiting is really such a problem? It's already been discussed that a dervish has plenty of options available for non-elite speed buffs / snares.
An elite being good because it allows you to over-extend is just promoting bad play.

Nothing wrong with over-extending if it'll let you put some serious pressure on and even get a kill.
Balth has it's uses, but only thanks to Pious Assault. Pre-Pious overhaul, Balth was trash because melee needs DW to kill things. Balth isn't horrible under certain circumstances, but PvE isn't one of them 'certain circumstances'.

The only really interesting thing about AoB in PvE is that it combines a non-strippable armor boost - making it the only defensive skill you'd really need IMHO - with a non-strippable holy damage conversion, which is useful for, uh, undead, and removes the need for Heart of Holy Flame there. It ... doesn't remove the use for Aura of Holy Might, and since that does holy damage conversion anyway, you might as well swap AoB for Conviction and use the elite for something else. (P.S. Oh, yeah, 24 < 40... so use a shield as well.)
And then, it also has the speed boost which allows you to over-extend. In PvE, over-extending is a great way to ... get killed. Can't think of any other realistic use for it.

too much healing and defense, not enough usefulness.

ok couple points. this build isn't useless, ive used it fighting multiple enemies in pvp, not just 1v1, and usually win. Ive used it in gvg to great effect and in normal mission etc.
HOWEVER i take your points about trying attack builds, ill save my current build and try some of those offered and if i like them thats cool, if i don't i can allways go back to my original. so thanks for the constructive criticism although i gota say those few posts that last for one line and just say how useless my build is, well thats just being petty. if u dont have something usefull to say about how i can improve why dont u just shut up? so thanks to people like Clarissa F who try to help.
ive got what i wanted from this so if this thread could be closed b4 it turns into a mosh pit of insults and pre-pubescent anger, well thatd be good.
